  1. I find this interesting because I was put on birth control pills early (around 15) to control heavy bleeding. I would have gone on them earlier, but I have a "hippie" mom who is not a fan of Popping pills for cures. It just got so bad that the heavy periods were interferring w/me being a kid, active in sports. I'm not saying the pill put the weight on - what I find ironic is, when I went off them after I got married....that was when the weight piled on at an astronomical rate. I could add age / lack of being active as excuses...but my body went into "flux" around 34 & it's just getting back to normal. I'm noticing a dramatic change to my period as the weight is lessening. I "almost" had a partial hysterectomy last summer - but wanted to see how the band and weightloss would change the female problems I had been experiencing. So far so good:smile:

    The new exercise equipment....

Sue - I LOVE the Pic. Like Heartfire - I have a mile long driveway, but it's all gravel. The rest of our property is all terrain * though we have some quads, DH STILL won't let me get on anything w/2 wheels. I'm a klutz as of late. Thanks for sharing!!!!

    April Exercise Challenge

good luck w/the 5k ceradad! georgia girl - glad your feeling better & able to get back to exercising!! yesterday - nothing:ohmy: today - 3.5 mile run / leg & ab floor exercises
  5. Gadget, for me I feel she makes a mockery of someone who struggles with the choice to abort. She allows herself to be the Poster Child for the Pro Life movement as an example of how the Pro Choice views abortion - treating it like birth control & that's not an accurate depiction. I think this has nothing to do with art...This woman wanted "noise" & noise she got, I've not heard one person in the Art World come out to defend her - even PP has said she was disgraceful.
  6. I'll answer - No, I don't think she should have legal consequences. Public opionion alone, should shame this woman. I brought up guns/alcohol as examples of "legal" abuses than can take place, such as in this case. I don't necessarily care for those - but since MANY on the Pro Life movement have brought Slavery / Science / Religion to name a few in the discussion; I'm not taking from the topic to address similarites - so long as I don't take this thread 3 pages to proove my comparison. It is just that. I find, Ms Flipflops your comment below uncaring for those who may have NOT chosen to have sex - rather sex was forced on them. Also those who DID choose birth control and it failed. "I'm Pro Choice too- I believe that women have the right to not put themselves in a position where they get pregnant and can't have the child. They can CHOOSE to have sex and have the possibility to conceive, or they can CHOOSE not to and remain 100% positive they won't have a child." What remains paramount to many that are Pro Choice is that a Woman be allowed to determine her outcome should a Unplanned pregnancy take place. I feel we've given this Woman from Yale enough coverage & she is WELL in the minority.

No tips - I come to you for those:tongue: All the best - you've worked HARD, can't wait to see those pics...
  8. I know my value system, I however don't feel the need to thrust it onto others - and a slam to my morals on an Internet Forum has zero impact on me. Now if my Priest or Husband has issues w/those values, I would have to re-examine myself a great deal. The constant misconception that those who are Pro Choice are in favor of using abortion as a form of birth control - is just plain wrong. Alcohol is legal, people abuse that. Guns are legal, people abuse them too. Many things that are legal get abused - but they are in the minority...but get the press. Stick to your statement - no one here to tell you otherwise. Cheers~

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

ha - still tipsy i guess. no, it doesn't feel all that different...but i did sip slowly for the first few wks. when i went onto Soups i got full very fast, so you don't necessarily "feel" the band; you'll know it's there by getting signals that your done with food or drink. not sure that makes sense:tongue:

    A question for the ladies

I recommed getting a good one, but that's coming from someone who's rather large - inbetween a D & DD right now. I know there is a thread around talking about sports bras & there were a lot of choices in a variety of price ranges to look for. Good support is what you need, and that doesn't have to come at a high price. A fitting is a great idea.

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

I'm assuming you mean alcohol? If so, I had 3 glasses of white wine Saturday night & was pretty tipsy. And this is coming from someone who could hold her own. I told hubby yesterday I didn't like how I felt & was a little annoyed I couldn't get off the couch & go to the gym.....So, I've turned into a lightweight:wink:

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

    bbk - i just realized your having PS soon!! what are you having done / excited?? i myself going through a odd phase - but enjoying it! i think:rolleyes: i USE to be the small one (5'1 - 120lbs) among my friends, then gained 75lbs in 7yrs and basically stopped all social outtings. i was just disgusted w/how nothing fit properly - my thighs touching each other - and was constantly self conscious of what i was eating if i was having lunch w/the girls. i know my friends saw the weight gain & only my closest when alone would bring it up , and offer help to work out , etc. i choose the Lap Band, cause i needed help - diet & exercise weren't working, well they were - but if i had a halt in weightloss; i'd get frustrated & grab a bag of chips. i am very happy w/the results so far. 20lbs to go & have SO much fun going shopping in my guest closet for my cute clothes i outgrew over the yrs. i have from size 6-16, and it's been fun getting rid of the larger sizes each month. sat night DH and i had a wedding, where we hadn't seen friends since we were banded (hubby banded same day as me).....it WAS so awesome to be to told how good you look VS the "look" that represented (ooohhh you gained weight)... ....oh and the energy level...WAY up, i'm more active now than when in my 20's ps - North TX Resident as Well;
  14. yesterday - b- 3 slices of bacon w/strawberries l- cherry jello d- 2/3c chicken stew s- handful of soy chips
  15. congrats on the 9+ miles! my dr suggested i carry some raw almonds / nuts with me at all times to pop in to curb the "want" to shovel food in, especially after a workout. the only times i've gotten "stuck" have been after a workout, and i couldn't get my lunch in fast enough. good luck w/the marathon.

    My list of exercise questions

Hi Time! By no means am I any expert & I'm sure some who've been at it longer will post but I thought I'd answer some of your questions.. First, I think you can go to Ebay & see if you can get a bodybugg cheaper - I think I've seen some even here on this Forum trying to sell their's too...So I'd hit the internet for a good deal. I work out with a trainer and have for approx 4 months now. Prior to that I had a regular routine (not far off the mark from you), and what I've realized is that you need to change your routine up every 3 wks or so. On the 2 days a wk I work out w/him, I hit it VERY hard w/weights followed afterwards with a 2mile run. I do a lot of core strength * resistance training and mix up my cardio (bike/elliptical/treadmill) when not with him. I got big thighs myself - and to get them as lean as possibly (also only 5'1), I do more lunges & squats than I care to count on most days. Add some leg press weights in, and well their starting to get the athletic look I want. I'll NEVER have small legs - I just don't want them wiggling:tongue: I do give myself one day a wk to rest up & I also recently upped' my calorie intake to counter the hard workouts. My trainer is really big in mixing up my Protein and workouts to sorta "shock" the body from getting use to anyone thing. I would surf around for workout routines online....a friend of mine found one to concentrate on her abs, and it's pretty close to what I do with my trainer..... Hope this helps some:smile:
  17. yesterday - b- 2/3c sausage / peppers on whole wheat pasta w/sauce l- 1/2 c edamame & 1/4c wasabi peas d- 1 shrimp spring roll & 4 pcs tuna sashimi

    Fills

your fills could be considered "aggressive" based on the frequency you go in for one (each wk). more than most go every 2/4wks - so the volume may not be as high (.5) due to that??? maybe. i had to get to 8.5cc's in my 10cc band before i had "TRUE" restriction - you may require that much as well. it was a tad too much for the first 10 days then it settled in & seems to be perfect. i wanted to, well need to eat more than 800 calories a day - considering i'm burning over 700calories w/a session with my trainer - and 500 on days w/out him. my average right now is approx 1200 (and that sometimes is hard to do)....it's quite a balancing act. as for sandwhichs: mine now are deli meat or salad (egg/tuna/chicken) on 1 wasa bread cracker with veggies & i feel COMPLETELY satisfied.
  20. Agreed - It's despicable whether your Pro Life OR Pro Choice. I've read that even though Yale came out to say this was a "hoax"... This woman is going to the Internet / Blogs saying it wasn't; she really did do it. I have no idea the truth - to be honest even the "Idea" is sick in of itself. Wheetsin - Congrats on the pregnancy.

    Exercise doesn't equal weight loss???

hey shortgal - i agree with your statement; after some reflection we (DH & myself) had to admit that exercise is something that HAS to be part of our life. while we were dating we were so active: hiking/skiing/mountain bike/or the gym.... because we LOVE food so much. the minute that stopped - we got fluffy. when we got banded we made a "pact" to be active as much as possible & since i have a form of RA, i tend to be in pain when not moving.

    Losing Upper Stomach Fat

Try some sporting goods stores or even Target for reasonably priced items. You can pick yourself up some dumbells in 2/5/7/10/15lbs & resistance bands are also used a bunch in gyms. As mentioned above you can also find that a lot of workout DVD's will include some of these products. Good luck to you!!
