    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Mine's not due yet so I can't say, but I have heard this is normal after any surgery. It will return to normal probably next cycle or two!

I'm pretty sure we all might lose our hair for a bit just due to the shock of surgery (this is very common) but it's temporary hair loss. But yes, in the book I read, "Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success" (by Dr. Vuong) he says first rule of the Gastric Sleeve is always eat protein first. This helps us absorb it better than just having protein once a day. Just like supplements. Take half amount in morning and half in evening. So much to think about!

I just met with my doc (first post-op appt--had staples removed) and I was told I can't touch veggies until 5 to 8 weeks post-op and even then it has to be soft veggies or fruit without skin. I think skinless for quite awhile? Then when you add salad, (Stage III - week 9 or 10) we are supposed to add one food at a time. So (for example) lettuce with cucumbers one time. Then next time add tomatoes. And when you take bites, we are supposed to take a bite of one ingredient/food at a time. (so don't take a forkful of lettuce, cucumber and tomato and try to eat that at once.)

Are you using a straw when drinking? This could be the cause to your gas pains? Are you taking Pepcid morning and night? Also try smaller sips and waiting a little longer between sips or bites. Try using a baby spoon even for liquids. It's hard but we have to be mindful when we eat/drink.

I recommend: http://www.ultimategastricsleeve.com/ I got the book on Kindle and trying to review the material every day. See highlights (attached photos). One tip he has to change your life is to focus on adding new good habits (rather than stop bad ones). He says do one at a time and before you know it you will have less and less bad habits because you are spending time focusing and learning new good habits!

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Hello! My surgery was July 31. I was in the hospital for 5 days. Staples should be removed this coming Tuesday (I can't wait!) so far lost about 15 or 16 pounds. I'm really nervous about eating and yet I'm also starting to get a bit obsessed with wanting to eat "real" food. When I go to the doc on Tuesday he should graduate me to soft foods so we'll see if that helps. I'm not "hungry" per se, but the last couple of days I'm starting to think about food A LOT (and missing it.) Part of it might be that I was originally scheduled for 6/9 and then again for 7/28 and then finally had the actual surgery on 7/31. So that was a lot of starting and stopping the liquid diet pre-op. Let's support each other and have success together - not just in the short-term but more importantly in the LONG-term! Cheers, M.
  9. Hello! Thank you for starting this support group. I had surgery on July 31 and was in the hospital for 5 days. I'm home and doing well now. Yesterday I went for my first post-surgery walk. Admittedly I only went for about 10-15 minutes. Today I did a little more (20 minutes) and my intention is to get myself out every day. Since I've been home I have noticed that the scale goes down most every day. But of course I'm just having Protein Shake and chicken broth at this point. So it's been a week and a day post-surgery (and my original surgery was postponed twice so I've been on liquids on and off since mid-June!) At this point I am so close to trying real food. I'm also starting to panic that I really am obsessed with food. I know in the first year or two I will not be able to over do it too much (thankfully) I just PRAY PRAY PRAY I figure out how to manage my love of food and portions. I know this sleeve is a great tool but there are so many emotions attached to this, aren't there? Yikes! I really hope to continue with this group and maybe we can help each other be successful today and always! My best to you! Michelle
