For a minute I thought I wrote this post and forgot. I'm a month out and no big complaints. Have lost 20 pounds, but feel so lazy and lack energy... I'm interested in reading responses. I use to not be able to sit still and was going all day... Now I just feel so tired - esp. at end of day.

Not losing weight, pissed off!
Paloma68 replied to re14768's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you had your thyroid checked? 10 years ago, I followed a really strict Atkins type diet. Lost only 17 pounds. Found out thyroid was out of whack and prevented weight loss. -
I use to feel like you, but when you actually start eating,, you might find that after 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food you will feel so full - like eating a 5 course meal. Hunger "felt" worse in liquid stage, but ability to eat that much is very hard. I try to up my calories, but can barely get in 800 to 900.

Major Social Functions - How do you handle it?

What I've done - I tell people I don't feel well. Eat like a bird... -
I feel like I'm starving sometimes. I'll have a couple bites of cheese or cottage cheese and then am so full. Maybe just try a couple of bites and see if hunger pangs go away.

Fluid Intake related to slow weight loss?
Paloma68 replied to MommyMeghan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning I have a Premier shake (30g Protein, available at Costco). I add GENEPRO protein (30g per scoop) which I add to my shake. This means that by Breakfast, I have 60g protein. I would rather have something else for b'fast, but this is a sure way of getting the minimum protein in. Everything else thru out the day is gravy. On weekends, I sometimes make my shake and drink a little thru out the day. I do this so I can have eggs and sausage or something else besides shakes for breakfast. As far as liquid intake, I use a straw. Dr. said not to, but read a thread that many people ignored this and no ill side effects. So I have been using a straw and feel fine... Really helps with the liquid intake. -

August post op sleevers: Check in
Paloma68 replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
August 6th sleever. Been in a stall since week 2. Lost 17 pounds total in 14 days, then nada. Today is 4 weeks, 1 day. Eating pretty good, but find I still serve myself more than I need. End up leaving 1/2 on plate. Haven't had pain meds since 2 days post-op. Doing well with my vitamins. Feel great. Biggest complaint is tiredness. Believe it's associated with how little I'm eating, resulting in very little energy. Can't wait for stall to break. Month 2 goal is to start walking. Been meaning to but just so tired... Good luck everyone! -
What does it feel like?
Paloma68 replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had any major pain or headaches or incision pain. I'm hungry and think about all the things I want to eat, but never get in more than 2-3 of the things I actually want to eat because get so full quickly. I love sweets so the hardest thing for me is eating the important stuff first. By the time I've taken a few bites, what ever little treat I was thinking of doesn't get in because so full. Weight loss is steady but inches are definitely melting away. I never had the self control to stop eating or eat smarter. The sleeve has given me no option which is great. Though sometimes I wish I could just eat a burger. Glad I can't though. -
Having A Hard Time
Paloma68 replied to PrettyGal27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a topic on this forum called "Why no Drinking with Gastic Sleeve". Someone added a video link to explain why. After watching video, I'm going to do everything possible not to drink during meals. There's a great visual of how basically the liquid causes everything to slide out of your stomach much faster and makes you hungry sooner. Not drinking makes food hold much longer and feel fuller long. Check it out. When you see the difference you will understand this rule. I'm no longer even sipping! -
I had surgery Wednesday and returned to work Monday. Other than being a little tired, I was fine. Tiredness came from liquid only diet and no real fuel going into body. I increased yogurt and it helped.

My NUT said Ensure was not approved for diet because it has too much sugar. -
What's your daily vitamin schedule?
Paloma68 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm suppose to take a multi-vitamin, calcium citrate after each meal, B-complex and B-12 and iron (at bedtime). Problem, I'm suppose to take chewables but haven't found multi-vitamin (except gummies which are a no as per my NUT) and I take a thyroid pill first thing in morning and I can't take a vitamin or other pill 4 hours after taking thyroid pill. Trying to work on a schedule... Wondering how everyone else takes their pills? Before sleeve Dr. recommended fish oil. No one has mentioned them. My Dr. appt still one week away... Oh and do you crush, swallow or cut your pills? -

Update. I'm now 11 days post-op. 5 more days of liquid diet. Been sneaking in a bite here and there of soft foods. Had 3 bites of mashed potato last night. Was so full didn't have anything more rest of day but water. Energy is a little low sometimes and I know it's because I need to eat. Can't wait for pureed food. Oh and I'm 12 pounds down! -
I've been reading thru the forums. Had sleeve on 8/6/14. And it dawned on me in reading about stalls and difficulties that this won't work forever? Or not permanent? I guess what I mean is it sounds like people who gained weight again went back to old habits of eating - sugar, fat, fast food? Not sure. And they regained weight. I thought surgery would take away your tolerance for sugars, fat, fast food? And I thought the dumping syndrome would keep you from eating badly. Kind of like that pill that makes alcoholics throw up if they have alcohol. Am I wrong though? I'd love to be able to at least for special celebrations to have say dessert or croissant. I know I have to change my ways and eat healthier. I will do this, but an occasional splurge.... I thought this was a no no because not possible... I don't want to be tempted but if I go on vacation to Paris I can go enjoy a special dinner????!!! Just wondering. Still on liquids so my dreams right now are of very little else but some real food. eggs sounds so yummy right now.

So you can get fat again?
Paloma68 replied to Paloma68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
VSGAnna2014, I only had to meet with my NUT once. The meeting was an hour. I was given a booklet outlining phases of meal plan, meal ideas and options, and Vitamin directions. The NUT also told me that I needed to eat Protein first and veggies as much as possible for the rest of my life. That I could not eat sugar, flour or heavy fats. No other options or sidebars. That's it and do it forever. It wasn't until the forums that I started to realize not everyone is doing what I was told to do. Like I said, I'm planning to stick to my NUT's rules. I don't plan on cheating. If once a year I can have a bite of cake or a special meal on vacation great. I had to pay out of pocket. I had to forego a family vacation due to this decision. Therefore, I will succeed. I am changing my life and following the rules. 9 pounds in 8 days! Very happy right now though still waiting for some soft foods. -
So you can get fat again?
Paloma68 replied to Paloma68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
VSGAnn2014, I had a 1 hour nutrition class and a booklet given to me that outlined my eating plan/meal options and Vitamin list. The way the NUT put it was very simple. You have to eat Protein first, then fruit and veggies. You will be able to eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food so make good choices. Affects of not following rules were not really discussed except to say you may get really sick - sugar, bread, high fat foods. It wasn't until the forums that I realized the consequences of not following rules. I'm by nature, a rule follower so I'm ok with all the new rules and limitations. Honestly though, it's nice to know that if I want to take a small bite of a piece of cake for birthdays or a special meal (my sister is an awesome cook), I can have a very little bit. I thought it was an absolute NO. I'm 9 pounds down today - 8 days out of surgery. And I never plan to be gain this wait back. I paid cash and forewent a Florida vacation with family. I will not waste this gift. -
I've got to wait until 8/22 but I wish people would respond. My first plan is to make scrambled eggs. Dreaming about eggs. Don't know what else I should have though. I'm getting pretty tired of soup... Potatoes not good option. Pureeing meat sounds gross. Mashed fruit. Maybe I'll start with banana. Maybe tuna w/ avocado?

does anyone else feel that nothing else matters?
Paloma68 replied to jessiquoi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to wait 2 weeks from first appt to surgery. I knew I wanted to do this but $ was low. Came in to some $ and said I'm doing it before I spend it. I pushed for every appt and got the soonest available. Obsessed for 2 weeks. I would have been going crazy. Thank God I didn't actually have to wait for insurance. 1 week post-op and I am still learning al I can but no where near as obsessed as in pre-op. -

Paloma68 replied to orlando's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had sleeve on 8/6. Feel awesome. Except I'm dreaming about food too. Still on liquids until 8/22. So tired of broths. Yesterday I sucked on a bean and mashed it up until I felt I could swallow. Then got scared I'd hurt my sleeve. How embarrassing! Today I'm down 8 lbs from starting weight. I was not put on a pre-op diet at all. Just told not to eat or drink after midnight. Walked 30 minutes last 2 days. No pain meds since 2 days post-op. Still can't believe I've done this. Have been thinking about it for years. Feel great I've done it. I was a want to be health nut. Finally, I have to be a health nut because of restrictions. Sweets are my downfall... Haven't even thought of sweets. Just want some meat please! -
I want to hear from others with a lower BMI pre-op
Paloma68 replied to Midemali's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My starting BMI was 33.4. I've lost 7 pounds in one week. Sleeved on 8/6/14. Was wondering about weight loss rate because I'll be ecstatic to be at 142 (my college weight). That's only 36 pounds more. So glad I don't have so much more to lose than others - and maybe a little guilty, but been over 180 for 18 years. That's enough. Good luck. -
August 5th Sleevers...How's it going?

vitamins, vitamins vitamins!
Paloma68 replied to thatgirlT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said no Vitamins until my follow up (on 8/22). I'm taking 2 flintstones just because I like them and they can't hurt. It was Ok to take birth control and thryoid meds. These are very small so I swallow them. Is anyone cutting regular vitamins and taking them? I tried crushing them but gagged on powder and couldn't chug down Water to wash off taste fast enough so no thanks. This is on list of issues for doc at follow up.
