Depression after WLS - article - pls add yr experience
Brenda Witte Evans replied to utahgirll's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kaninag- I went through the biggest depression I ever had in my life at 2.5 months after surgery. Since then I started medication which helped but after about 2 months of the depression it just resolved. I have now gone off my medication and have been emotionally stable.. and getting thinner ever since. Partly I just got used to how I eat. Partly I was able to start eating more different foods and partly... I think my body got used to the changes. Things are not always perfect but that really bad time is in the past. I hope that you can see past the here and now and know that it will get greater later. God bless. -

How is the September 2014 group doing?
Brenda Witte Evans replied to Bring It On's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Doing good down 73 pounds but dealing with serious depression despite all the good that has come from the surgery... Yes this can be a complication. I have never dealt with this before. Getting treatment and feel good about that part. Also under 300 pounds for the first time in 10 years. -
Depression after WLS - article - pls add yr experience

I read that article just today. I am 2 and 1/2 months out from my gastric bypass and for the first time in my life am dealing with serious depression. My husband took me to the ER on Monday due to the severity. Maybe the article has some inaccuracies. But my life is good. I have lost 73 pounds I am under 300 for the first time in more than 10 years. I have a great job, great home and so much less pain than I did 73 pounds ago. But despite all these wonderful things I feel so sad. My husband called My surgeon who said depression can be a complication. I am not sure that we really know all the reasons. I haven't started treatment yet except the Xanax I was prescribed in the ER, But I think you should know that depression after surgery can really happen and for me it was the scariest thing I have ever felt. -
How are all the Sept. people doing?

I had my Surgery Sept. 17th Wed. and I had a complication of severe high blood pressure. I was in the ICU for a night and then transferred to the floor for another night. Doing better now but I had a lot of pain just after surgery. (Not sure morphine agrees with me.) Home now for a couple of days. trying to get my Water intake and starting on Protein shakes.... both are hard. I too have sleep apnea but had no issues in that area. The most unexpected thing after surgery (besides the high BP): was the upper GI before they start you on Clear liquids. I thought it would be a scope... it was not. I stood infront of an xray and drank the worst tasting liquid I have ever had.... Best piece of advice: Walk walk walk... I think that helped me and still helps me as much as anything. I did this from day one in the ICU and still get in several walks.. 5-8 times back and forth several times in my house per day... today I plan to tackle the front steps when the kids get home from school. (I don't want to tackle 13 uneven stairs with no handrail when I am home alone.) Biggest mistake: licking a spoon with hot mustard = diarrhea Biggest win: already notice weight loss -
Losing Weight Causing Me To Rethink Being In My Current Relationship
Brenda Witte Evans replied to bs8387's topic in The Gals' Room
You clearly don't want to be in this relationship. Time to face the inconvenient truth and the harsh reality and ask him to go. Look hard for that dream job. and girl... Go LIVE your 20's this is from a 42 y/o divorced, and now newly remarried women. Just starting her gastric bypass. Good luck... I will say a little prayer for you because nothing is harder than stepping into the unknown. -
