I had my surgery OCt. 18. No complications or problems so far with the band, however, 2 of my incision sites will not heal and are wide open and deep. Luckily I work in the hospital so a PA has been looking in on me and checking my incision weekly for infection and the wound clinic has been keeping them clean and covering them. But its been six wees and they are still not healed and now I am having severe pain. ANyone else had this happen? Any suggestions?

SpeechPath replied to raph's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Oct. 18 and I have already started sleeping on my stomach. At first when I get on my stomach it is a little sore, but soon goes away. I was dying the first two weeks because I couldn't get on my stomach! -
Can Wife (RN) be trained to do fills?
SpeechPath replied to MPL NJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My mom is a nurse who plans on doing my fills. Nurses access the same type ports with cancer patients all the time. When I had my surgery, I asked my doctor about my mom getting trained and they said no problem. A friend of mine had her surgery in Mexico and her sister is a nurse and always does her fills! -

Just giving an update on my surgery. I was banded Oct. 18. No fill yet, but I have already lost 16 pounds. Started protein shakes which is going well. My incision sites are all healing except one. One has opened and draining slightly, but the docs said it was okay, just ot keep it clean and covered! -
How much weight should I expect to lose a week
SpeechPath replied to Beverly1010's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on oct. 18th. no fill yet, but I have lost 16 pounds. I am sure it is because I only eat liquids and pureed right now. I was initially getting hungry every few hours, but that has changed. I don't get hungry as much. I also started protein shakes which all helping greatly. I drink one in the morning and I am tied over till lunch! -
Just wanted to give an update on my surgery. I went to Tijuana, MX on October 18 for lap band surgery by Dr. Lopez and his staff. I had an excellent experience. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Anything I needed all I had to do was ask. Dr. lopez was very nice and also his co-worker Dr. Carmen Calleja. I am now home and have had no complications to date. i am eating a full liquid diet without difficulty. I am having a hard time judging how much to eat, but i am sure that will come with practice. I just wanted to let everyone know about my experience. I was a little hesitant about going to Mexico right before the surgery because of some things I read on this site, but I am definitely glad I went now!

Completed surgery in Tijuana, Mexico
SpeechPath replied to SpeechPath's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was scared of Mexico too. I went there also because my insurance did not pay for the band. Once I got there I felt more comfortable. I got better care there than I probably would have gotten in the states. The hospital was super nice and way advanced. I do things in radiology and my mom is a nurse so we were both checking everything out and were both supper impressed. Very clean nice hospital and staff. The only problem was the language barrier at times! -

Just wanted to say that I am from Albany, GA. My mother-in-law had the lap band placed by Dr. Bagnato aprrox. 3 years ago. She did well with it, but it slipped about 6 months ago. Dr. Bagnato went in and tried to repair but she had severe erosions so they took it oout, allowed time for the erosions to heal and she just had it replaced about 1 month ago. Dr. Bagnato has gone out of his way to help her. She even cuts his hair now! I am having the band place actually tomorrow, but unfortunately I don't have insurance that covers it ( I work at Phoebe), so I am going out of state to have it done. I will keep you posted!
