  1. Muscle mass; body adjusting. Don't weigh in so often; you won't notice it so much.

    First Post Surgery Meltdown

It IS a process and through it, much will be revealed about yourself. What an adventure you have in store. What a JOURNEY to a new and improved YOU!!
  3. Isn't that just a GREAT feeling!? What an accomplishment! Congratulations. The weight loss slows when you start eating more/exercising less. I only know of one person (my sister) who was told she'd lost enough weight and to start eating more. Just enjoy the ride! Believe me, there will come a time when it won't be so easy and the wt loss will slow down.

    First Post Surgery Meltdown

They are VICTORY marks! That's all. They subside over time. But I get it; BOY do I get it. I've had a total of 6 operations r/t my RNY and subsequent challenges. Look on the bright side; it isn't an incision that goes from one end to the other! Hang in there!! It IS worth it.
  5. Water, Jello (sf) cups pre-made, broth that you can heat in micro. That's all you should need. Been there; done that.
  6. Day after rny, back to OR for bowel obstruction. Revised RNY 5 years later because I was stupid! Next day after that, back to OR for incarcerated hernia. Then 5 yrs later, started vomiting intermittently. Had sx. about 6 months later but all he found was adhesions. Stll, vomitting worsened and just last Thurs., had dissection of esophagus and repaired hiatal hernia and tacked pouch in place as it had rotated clockwise and pertruded above the disphragm. I hope to god this is it now; I pay cash for each surgery! BUT... since last Thurs., haven't thrown up!! And in case you are wondering; NO REGRETS AT ALL!
  7. Water; drink more. Lack of caffeine; it will pass but is unpleasant to be sure.

Sorry guys tmi but need to ask!

Not totally abnormal or unexpected. Everybody is different. Do get your Water in. Move slow and give your body time to adjust when you sit up or stand up. You just had surgery! Be kine to yourself and take it easy. Between the diarrhea, change in intake and (?) pain meds, the passing out feeling is understandable. Good luck.

    Help!

? Surgery 1999? Did you have a revision 4 months ago? Anyway; first take a deep breath. Don't worry about the Vitamins right now. If you're that nauseated, they probably wouldn't stay down anyway. You need to fix that first. LATER, when you're better, just get yourself a pill minder box; 7 days with four compartments for each day; Walgreens or CVS; helps you organize the menagerie. Re. dreams; we've probably all had them. My first night of surgery, I dreamt about THE most perfectly grilled cheese sandwich with cheese and tomatoes all the way to the edges! And that was just the first night!! After the EGD, you'll have an answer and the Dr. should have a plan. Trust me, long term, you won't regret this. These bumps are just part of the adventure. Hang in there and update after your procedure.
  10. I found it extremely hard to FLOAT in the pool!!!

It feels so good to at least have an answer, doesn't it? Now you can get better!! Good for you!

    Years later

My first RNY '03; revised '08; Wt regain was my fault clear and simple. Now, I've been vomitng over 1 yr intermittently. As always, went back to my surgeon. Many tests; 1 surgery; still vomiting; one more test and as always, he wants to read the actual study; He doesn't believe radiologists read the studies as he would. He's found the culprit now and more sx needed. My point; Go back to your surgeon. Bring CD's of all the xrays you've had. Let him see if he can help. Get med. records of the ER visits for your attacks as well. They do know more that GI Drs. and rads. and put all the info together in a way other Drs. probably wouldn't. Could be a torsion causing pain; or a volvulus that resolves itself; or an internal hernia. I'd be so interested to see if original surgeon could shed some light. Keep us updated. And if he can't help, consider another bariatric surgeon consult. Where do you live, BTW? Good luck!!
  13. I'd find another Dr. You're the customer; He should give you what you want. Maybe take more time to lose the extra wt? Try and get another opinion.

    Pouch

From someone who knows: Yes, over eating WILL stretch the pouch. It will stretch over time anyway and if you keep doing it, by grazing or over eating at a meal, it can and will stretch more. Yes, you can eat more, but the hope is that you've learned to eat only what you need; which is less than what we ate before. But if you're silly, like me, you over eat and end up having a revision. It's a tool; not a cure. An upper GI will show the pouch size, as would an endoscopy. You'd have to have a medical reason and Dr. order for either of these and it wouldn't be done solely to see the size.
  15. It is probably a seroma; collection of Fluid. Easily fixed by your Dr.
  16. I had g-tube; placed the day after surgery d/t an obstruction. You should not really be aware of it. It it's causing you pain, it may in part be d/t the irritation from the vomiting. If it still hurts that much,it definitely warrants a call to your surgeon. Maybe it's nothing or normal in your case; but call. You are paying for this service; it's all part of the package. Don't suffer or look for a definitive answer here. Each case and surgeon is specific. Please call! BTW; mine was in a few weeks and as there was a bit of an infection, I confess is hurt when it was pulled out; a LOT. 5 years later when I had a revision, I had another g-tube and when IT was taken out, I didn't feel it at all. Still, when you go to have it taken out, I would take a pain pill 30 min prior just to be on the comfortable side. Good luck.
  17. I agree. That's not right and warrants a trip to the ER. PE usually doesn't present with that severe pain; more a shortness of breath, coughing up blood maybe. But it could. That kind of pain after any major surgery needs a further looking into.

    SEX!

hmmm. If telling him the truth is not an option, it doesn't sound like it's a very serious relationship.
  19. James; good observation and valid point. I focused on the wt. gain and forgot about her mentioning the thyroid!! Good job!!
  20. Consider all the $ you've spent in the past. Consider all the "programs" you've tried in the past. Did it make a difference? If you're Dr. (bariatric surgeon) is still in the area, consider asking him/her first. If you're willing to go on a program, perhaps the original bariatric rules would work just as well and cost less. Just a thought. I myself gained back 60 of the 108 lbs I'd lost. I ended up having a revision. But my Dr. was very supportive and worked with me before we came to that decision. Good luck.
  21. It is odd how people look at gastric sx for wt. loss, isn't it?! Would they ignore lung sx on a smoker; or cardiac bypass? You just have to know it's what YOU chose and get your support here. Anything from family and friends; just consider it icing on the cake. (sorry for the food reference!)
  22. Don't make this about anybody but YOU! You are not doing this to see what THEY think. And as posted before, the comments WILL come. Glad you went from Band to By-Pass. I thought you meant you were re-doing a previous by-pass. Good luck!!
  23. If this is a revision, when was your first surgery? Could it be they're afraid of offending you for questioning a second surgery? I, too, had a revision after 5 years. Not sure people knew how to take a second go at it. It was odd enough at the time (2003) for them to understand the first.
