Tried grilled chicken at 4 weeks out, chewed very well, and got down about an ounce. No problems.

not sure where to post this- husband absolutely does not support wls

Risk of death from WLS is minimal--I think less than 1%. Risk of death from overweight is very high. Look up some numbers and show him! -
3-4 weeks out how u feeling?
NotGoingThere replied to happymama2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did have a lot of pain in my largest incision, but went back to work 9 days out, and felt just a little sore by then. I am in my 4th week out now, and no pain other than occasional twinges--most noticeably after I carried groceries that were too heavy over the weekend! -

Goal weight and family negative family members
NotGoingThere replied to auntiemel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can bet she is jealous. You are right--a BMI at 250 for your height is still over 40! No way would that be a healthy weight. Your goal is much more realistic, and HEALTHY! Ignore it, and keep going! -
Return to work / recovery Time
NotGoingThere replied to cathybb36's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am a teacher. I had surgery on Saturday morning, and went to work a week from Monday (9 days). I asked my surgeon ahead of time and he said ok if I felt like it and could get my liquids and Protein in. I have been fine! -
I had no internal pain and no nausea, but was on nausea medication. Four of my incisions were fine, but the largest one hurt MUCH worse than expected. I could't move easily for several days. However, the pain got better quickly, and I could move around very well by 5-6 days out. Started a new job on day 9 and I have been fine.

Making the decision too quickly?

I first met with surgeon at the end of July and getting sleeved tomorrow. Once I made up my mind (after thinking about it for years), I was ready to go! -
Starting new job…how long to stay out?
NotGoingThere posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having surgery (Sleeve) on Saturday the 27th. After searching for a job for almost 6 months (teaching high school) I have finally been offered a job. Yay!! They want me to start on Oct. 6, a week and 2 days after surgery. Should I be OK? -
September 29th I'll be sleeved! :) Anyone else on September 29th?
NotGoingThere replied to glamblondie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am set for Saturday the 27th! I guess there won't be many on Saturday . -
Anyone in north carolina
NotGoingThere replied to Jenlanning30's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm north of Raleigh. Dr. Tyner is my surgeon, and surgery is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 27. -
If you have never tried it, vanilla yogurt with a spoon of peanut butter stirred in is wonderfull!

My insurance approval letter (BCBS) came in saying that I was approved for surgery and then there was a date in a right hand column beside it that says 9/22/2014-9/23/2014. What is this date for? My pre-op appt is on the 23rd, but my surgery date is 9/27. Does this need to be addressed?

Be glad you decided to have the surgery. These problems might have been found too late if you were not taking these steps! -
How necessary is this pre-op diet?
NotGoingThere replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that the diet was to shrink the size of the liver, but also to reduce the weight of it. He says if the liver weighs too much due to fat and they lift it out of the way, it could develop a crack, which would be bad! -
Sleep Study results...
NotGoingThere replied to Aspring424's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept telling myself the same thing--you can follow the diet without the surgery. And I did….MANY TIMES. I can't stop the regain after the diet. I finally faced the fact that if I wanted long term good health, this was my only option. People who are thin don't understand because they keep it off long term. Those who are overweight and criticize either 1) don't recognize the health issues, 2) are afraid of surgery, or 3) are threatened by the idea of you succeeding. I know you (and me!) will be successful this time! Hang in there. -
Long time waiting
NotGoingThere replied to bellabill's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on how good your surgeon is. Could you get someone just as good quicker? My journey has gone much faster. However, I would have waited longer to keep the same surgeon. Maybe it has taken longer because your surgeon is in such demand. You should do some research on it. -
Approved and waiting for the date!
NotGoingThere posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been contemplating having bariatric surgery for years. I didn't like the sound of either the bypass or the band, and hated the idea of a 6 month supervised diet, but finally decided that it just had to be done or I would die fat and early, and leave my five year old without a mom. I asked my doctor for a referral, and was told that I needed to sign up for a seminar first. I went to the website of a surgical group my doc recommended, and was delighted to discover their post that BCBS had dropped the supervised diet requirement two days previously, and that I could do the seminar online. Since then, it seems like things have moved at lightning speed. After meeting with the surgeon, I opted for the gastric sleeve. (I still am not crazy about the bypass or band options, even though I know they have been very successful for others.) Got got all my testing done, and after a glitch or two due to transferring to a COBRA policy my insurance got approved. I found out today that I will have my pre-op appt and get my surgery date on Monday. Can't wait! Nurse said surgery may be by the end of September! -
Haven't had the surgery yet, so I don't know what your recipe requirements are, but I saw a recipe today on www.myrecipes.com for a pumpkin sage polenta (or grits for those of us down south!) that sounded wonderful.

Slower than molasses, but...
NotGoingThere replied to fezik23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The surgeons in my practice have posted doing surgery on those up to age 72. I guess different surgeons have different preferences! -
Love the length on you. Love the back. Not too sure about the neckline, but for $20 I would keep it.

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
NotGoingThere replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Searching for a job. Although I realize that I won't get every job I interview for, I know for a fact that I was best qualified for three jobs I applied for and did not get. The people that were hired did not have the skills or background that I do. After a certain point, you realize that it MUST be weight related. -
How Long Were You Out Of Work?
NotGoingThere replied to Olivia23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Olivia, don't know about self pay, but if you are in the triangle area, consider Bariatric Specialists in Cary. There are also some surgeons in Charlotte with good records for the sleeve. You shouldn't have a problem finding a surgeon to do the operation close by you. My doc recommended the sleeve over the lap band, even though he could do either for approx same out of pocket for me. Again, not sure about self-pay. I have noticed that the prices quoted for surgery in Mexico are similar to what I will be paying out of pocket after my insurance pays. -
New Here: Anybody feel like you're just on hold?
NotGoingThere replied to Blue Sky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had really bad timing. I decided to start on this process knowing that I was resigning from a job, but that I planned to keep the same insurance benefits through COBRA. I didn't know that the COBRA policy had to actually begin to be approved for surgery. Apparently you get a new insurance number. So they submitted my case to BCBS about two weeks ago, and were told to wait until September 1 for the new policy to be in effect to resubmit. I feel like I have been on hold the entire month of August! -
Wanted: September Sleevers!
NotGoingThere replied to Liberianne_Gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I am 49, and live in NC. I think I might be September. I did an online class, then met surgeon on July 26. I had chest X-ray, ultrasound, EKG, and upper gi on the 6th, and psych and nutrition today. Don' t need sleep study--already know I have sleep apnea. My "results" visit is on Aug. 26, and I get my surgery date then. I don't even know when my approval goes to insurance! When do they usually submit?
