Help Please! Sleeve in Mexico?
AllThatGlittersIsntGold replied to sukik's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My uncle is a US surgeon, when I told him I wanted to do this surgery he said I would have an extremely difficult time getting it approved by insurance and that my best bet is to start saving, and to pick a surgeon I feel comfortable with. I told him I'm going to a center of excellence in mexico, which he said means nothing.. He did say that gastric sleeve is the golden standard for weight loss surgery as far as he knows. I'lll be going for the vsg with Dr.Ortiz. -

Congratulations!! It didn't hit me either after I sent the deposit, I am honestly only feeling it now that the date is getting closer and I am organizing all my supplements and nutrition information. I've been heavy for the past 7 years, the last time I lost weight through strict dieting/exercise, while I was still nearly 30 lbs over my goal weight, I felt so happy. I don't expect to be a fast loser, I expect to hit plateaus, except this time I know I will finally be able to push through them. -

Last week was very difficult for me, I felt constantly hungry just at the idea of the preop diet and kept on thinking about "food funerals" i guess, but I feel good I stopped myself. I've been cutting down my caffeine intake, and sticking to the preop diet, silly me realized that food isn't going anywhere, and my priority is where it should be, focusing on my health and not my mental appetite. I really do appreciate your post, makes me feel more confident/excited and easier to stick to the preop diet. One of my coworkers has had this surgery done and he looks great, he is two years out, he can eat whatever he wants, just in the appropiate portions that allows him to maintain a stable healthy weight. -

Sleeve or Plication? Scared to death and nervous.
AllThatGlittersIsntGold replied to Max2735's topic in The Guys’ Room
I'm looking at both, and the plication is reversible, but only for a certain time frame, I can look for the journal I was reading but I remember it being around 6 weeks. -
Experiences with Phentermine?
AllThatGlittersIsntGold replied to RellaBelle's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
As a person who takes adderall readily, I only used half a dosage of a phentermine for a few days and absolutely hated it! (Didn't combine adderall and phentermine) I felt anxiety/panic, racing heart, and yes my hunger was blocked but it was uncomfortable and returned with a vengeance! -

My date is on September 2nd, starting the diet today, need to lose 15-20 lbs preop.. Are you getting the sleeve done? My parents are hell bent on trying to get me to switch to the sleeve plication but I don't like what I've been reading about people regaining their weight within a few months to a year. -

I had a difficult time finding info on this, my family are now trying to push me towards plication, which is supposedly complication free once your 2 weeks after the surgery but I have been reading about a lot of people that have been able to eat bigger portions within weeks/months of the surgery, and regain the weight and then switch to a sleeve.. -

Sorry that is what I was told! I was told by one source that he drank too much and another resource that he was trying to eat too much... I don't know.. I'm truly sorry to hear about your complications, but even with all my cousins complications he ultimately lost almost 200 lbs. I plan on getting an endoscopy within 6 months to a year after the surgery, I am going to keep track of all my blood work, like you said complications are rare but there is no deciding if you get to be that 1%. I am hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. -

Did you guys experience problems getting aftercare in the us after surgery in Mexico? Have you had to have any adjustments made afterwards?

In the past 7 years.. I have done the dukan diet, atkins, HCG diet, Optifast, medifast, nutrisystem and other misc diets. I have been losing and regaining the same 50 lbs, they just seem to creep up since I have never been able to sustain it. I am debating between financing and going self pay in Mexico (Dr. Ortiz) or going through the insurance process, which I fear will deny me, for my bmi i would need to have at least one co-morbidity of the following: Daily functional interference to the extent that performance is extensively curtailed.4 b. Documented circulatory insufficiency. c. Documented physical trauma secondary to obesity complications, which causes the member to be incapacitated. d. Documented respiratory insufficiency. e. Documented primary disease complication, as applicable: i. Coronary heart disease and other atherosclerotic diseases. ii. Medically refractory hypertension. iii. Osteoarthritis. iv. Moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. 5 v. Type 2 diabetes. I don't think I meet it, and I am even more frustrated because I have zero support from my family who believe that I am not trying hard enough, which really hurts, they won't even hear me out or discuss the surgery with me. Has anybody been approved with similar bmi and no comorbidities? or did you decide to go the self pay route?
