Back to basics and really doing it!

Right? And now I have to switch antibiotics because this one has given me migraines where I lose my vision twice in two days. I should have been able to finish the cycle and the doctor was fine with it but one of my ovaries follicles got totally out of sync with the other so we had to stop. Nice waste of money. We're only freezing now. I had a baby 8 months ago but due to an anatomical weird thing IVF is the only way for me to get pregnant so we wanted to freeze so when we're ready for the next one it's not as stressful.

Checking in for accountability....I gained 6 lbs back (some has to be fluctuation though). I randomly had a raging systemic infection that was horrendously painful and landed me in the hospital, then my back went out AND I was in the middle of doing an IVF cycle to freeze embryos. Back on track today.

Everyone is different. It's a good question for a dietician or doctor.

Down almost 20 lbs! I'm doing pretty well and mostly finding it fairly easy to keep my calories low, but I could do better with evening out my food throughout the day.

Thanks. Yes, I eat a lot of protein even when not "eating well." My story is super long, but the short version is: Was banded in 05, lost over 100% of excess weight, ended up in treatment for anorexia, was convinced I should eat "normally," slowly gained weight through grad school, then gained more while working, then infertility treatment put it all over the top and now I'm back where I started 12 years later. I'm headed towards bypass, but eating (mostly) the way one would post bypass now because - why wait? I have tried this a couple times over the years, but it never lasted because of one reason or another. With bypass somewhere in sight, it's easier to keep going. The scale is moving now. I sort of forgot that this is ALWAYS what happens with my period. I drop right after it starts but hold on to weight right before.

Joining. I'm super frustrated. I'm eating 1300ish a day and waffling up and down the same couple of pounds. My body is super efficient with food. In Russia in the 1800's that would have been great. Now? Not so much. I'm sticking with it but starting to feel like the weight is going to go up no matter what I do.
  7. Hello Everyone, I'll spare you the whole drawn out story, but the short version is this: I had lap band surgery pretty young 12 years ago. I lost 100% of excess weight, had reconstructive surgeries, was in treatment for an eating disorder and gained it all back. I'm fully recovered and figuring out what's next. I have worked with my surgeon with the band and it isn't useful anymore. Any fills at all give me HORRIBLE heartburn and even without a fill, food gets stuck every meal. I'm strongly considering a revision to bypass or sleeve (can't decide). Have any of you done this? What was weight loss like the second time around? How was it different? I have about 170ish to lose. I'm 32 now and was 20 when I had the band put in.

Revision 12 years later? Band to...

I mean as opposed to bypass

Revision 12 years later? Band to...

    Why did you choose sleeve?

Revision 12 years later? Band to...

Thanks. If I weren't doing another surgery, I would probably just leave the band in. It's annoying, but not worth the surgery just to remove.

Revision 12 years later? Band to...

It's absolutely the band. When there's no fluid in it the reflux goes away. Thanks for flagging that!

    How long?

Hey folks, How long does one stall before they decide they're not losing? I'm eating 800 ish cals. I've tried more and less to get losing again, but nothing. I'm at 286. I cannot figure this out. I'm not underestimating cals. Any ideas/thoughts?

    How long?

Thanks. This is maddeningly frustrating. I'm absolutely burning more than I'm eating.

    How close together?

Just had a fill about two weeks ago and I know it wasn't enough. Do you think it's too soon for another?

    Not losing

When I had my band almost 10 years ago I lost very quickly- I lost all my weight. Long story short I had to have all the Fluid taken out. 6 years later I gained a LOT back and nothing could stop it. Nothing shows up in lab results. I finally just had a pretty large fill. I can eat about 1000 a day. I could probably do 1300 if I wanted to but I don't. I'm not losing. I lost right after the fill on liquids but when I went to mushy stuff 2 lbs came back on. I figured that was Water and tried to get over it. Now it has been over a week and nothing. I'm drinking liquids, eating Protein and not high carb. Any ideas? When I didn't have a fill, I could starve off weight for a few weeks but couldn't keep it up after awhile. During those periods, I lost faster than I am now. Those were often crazy diets from doctors that weren't sustainable, but....I lost. I'm weighing and measuring and following all the rules (I love rules).

    Not losing

My fluids aren't the same as they were when I had them removed. I had them keeping to so tight I couldn't eat anything (which was part of a larger issue). I eat about 4 oz of Protein and am full for hours. I don't have an honesty issue with food. After going through treatment for anorexia many years ago, I learned what role honesty needed to play for me. I had my band young - 19. I'm still in my 20's albeit late ones. Does weight loss slow down that young? It's true that it's a decade of difference. I don't need the band to stop me from anything. As I said, I'm eating about 1000, but could eat more if I wanted, but I'm not. To Cheryl 2586, What gave you the impression that I'm sitting and crying about it? What's with the abrasiveness. I'm just looking for other folks experiences, support, ideas, thoughts. And thanks for this below - that's what I was trying to figure out - is this just NOT working, or is it that it may just be taking a bit, might be recalibrating, etc.: And, if you are looking for results in a week, be patient. The scale may not move for a week or two. Give it time, and keep on track.

    Not losing

I was looking for a fill doctor for a possible next fill if I need it. I have pretty decent restriction, but wanted to have someone in my phone to call if needed. I had my fill on the 29th. I am eating right around 1000 a day. I could probably eat more, like I said, but I'm not. I just worry that at some point, the "being able to" might get to me, but that's not relevent to the moment. I do know that I need to be exercising more and I am working towards that. It just seems like 2 lbs a week should be reasonable with a deficit like this without much else. The first time around, I lose 3-5 lbs a week - fairly easily until the very end where I was getting off the last few lbs. Is it just this different? My weight keeps going up and down and up and down and by the end of the week, it's less than a lb. The ups and downs have to be Water because my food isn't that different on those days. Is it possible my body is just a bit shocked and at some point I'll see a random difference on the scale after it adjusts?

  22. Hey Folks, Does anyone have a fill doctor in LA? Eastside is ideal since I work in Pasadena. I love my doctor but I pay out of pocket and the cash price is prohibitive and makes me not want to have fills. Thanks!

    Fill doctor in Los Angeles

It's so frustrating. My surgeon charges almost $1000 with flouro. I need someone cheaper and closer to work.

    Restriction vs interest?

Hey folks, Long story short: had my surgery in 2005, was the model patient...lost all my weight and more..then kept going. I ended up with a raging eating disorder that needed treatment. They took all the fluid out of my band in 2006/7. After fully recovering, I eventually started gaining weight eating "normally." Now were in present day and I just had my first fill in many many years. It's totally different than before. I did liquids/mushy stuff and now I'm on solids. I wouldn't call what I have "restriction." I have wiggle room. I could eat a bit more if I wanted to and i haven't gotten anything stuck at all...I'm just not interested. It's like the fill have me normal fullness signals. The jury is still out on whether or not this will work. Has anybody out there reacted to a fill this way? Did it work for you?
  25. twistedbarbieLA

    Restriction vs interest?

It's just so strange because I NEVER had this the "first time." To be clear I'm far from goal again. I struggled with anorexia after band...at some point I just psychologically crossed a line. If you knew me, you wouldn't be surprised...I have all the personality traits that tend to go with restrictive eating disorders and if you add the trauma of growing up as heavy as I did, it all made sense. I took it too far and couldn't stop. They removed the fluid so I could actually eat normally when I was inpatient. But after 2-3 years of eating. Normally I started to gain more than needed. I'm probably 100 lbs over where my body is happiest now. I didnt try refilling the band until now because it wasn't something that comes without a lot of concern or drama for me given my history. Now I have fluid in again and I'm amazed that I'm not needing to think too much about eating or not eating. There are normal fullness signals that stop me after a small amount of food. I was put on my first diet at 6 months old...doctor had my mom watering down my formula....nobody was sure I would be able to eat like an average person and keep the weight off and now I know I can't.
