Good evening from frigid WNY! I was sleeved on Monday, February 9th, 2015. On my first day home, I was getting in 2 Protein shakes and sips of Water. Each day I added something. sugar free, fat free pudding made with Lactaid skim milk, low fat cottage cheese and have dealing well. Today, being one week out, I added a third Protein shake. Plus, 2 - 16 ounce bottles of water (sipping throughout the day). I was able to walk the treadmill twice. Each time 10 minutes. Nothing strenuous! Stay focused! Take care! Nancy -
I was sleeved last Monday! One thing I wasn't was scared! It was my decision to have the surgery. I did a great deal of research prior to the seminar. I'm not looking back, only forward! Stay positive! Getting out of bed as soon as possible and walk, walk, walk! Helps tremendously! Best of luck! We are here for you! Nancy

I am 60 years old and was sleeved on 2/9/2015. I will be 61on the 17th. I am doing well since I was discharged Tuesday evening. Here are few things to keep in mind to be better prepared while in the hospital: 1. Remember your sleep will be interrupted, once every shift a nursing assistant for blood pressure, temperature, pulse ox. Then the nurse to check incisions and to give pain mess. 2. You will find numerous electrodes foundon your body that were left for you to remove. 3. You will need to get up and use restroom, first with help and then , you are on your own. 4. Walking is enencouraged to help with gas and blood clots. 5. On day of discharge you will be visited by case management, dietitian, and pharmacist. 6. My surgeon saw me 3 times a day during my brief stay. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Best of luck! Nancy -
Sleeve is tomorrow! I'm so excited! Bag packed! Good luck to all! Nancy

Curious to see how long it took everyone to get their approval letters from their insurance companies.

Hi! I understand your frustration! According to my surgeon's office, my insurance precertification was submitted on September 12th of this year. I've checked with my insurance company and they have nothing on file. I called the surgeon's office and it is pending! Someone isn't telling the whole truth! Friday, I called the surgeon's again and was told it had to be resubmitted. Do you think it never was submitted? I do! However, I am hanging in there! Don't give up! I realize how hard it is to have patience. You will get there! Think of the whole journey and not that you are not there yet! Time is on your side!!! Take care! Nancy -
I'm in North Tonawanda! No date as of yet! Good luck to both of you!

I was told by my surgeon's office that my insurance approval would take 3-7 days, however it was submitted on the 12 of September and I am still waiting! I've called the insurance company (BCBS of FL) a week after the submission and was told they have no record of it. Called again a week later, still nothing! Spoke with the surgeon's office again almost 3 weeks ago and this past Tuesday, was told that they were going to check with BCBS and call me right back. I'm still waiting! However, I did receive the surgeon's bill for the endoscopy! LOL

I understand your dilemma! I've tried the diet medication Adipex and it did nothing for me! Now, I just awaiting for insurance approval. My son had gastric sleeve surgery in April of this year and has already lost over 120 pounds! He started his journey at the end of January 2014 at 382 pounds. I am so proud of him! Good luck in whatever you choose to do! Nancy

What's A High Protein Drink?
njbelybean replied to firstday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love Rockin' Refuel! My son had gastric sleeve in April of this year and he was telling me to try them. The only store that carries it in WNY is Tops supermarket. They are always out of them. Today, I asked the dairy manager if I could order 2 cases and he said YES!!! They will be in on Thursday! Great stuff!!! -
Hello! I have only told my husband, our two sons, my best friends and a few people at work. I have not said a word to my 5 siblings or my in-laws. I guess I haven't said anything because I usually hear - oh, you're not that heavy! Please I don't need to hear that anymore! I want to be healthier!!! I am just waiting for a surgery date.

Hello! The last thing I had to do was the endoscopy. That was performed on August 29th. The doctor found polyps, which removed and a biopsy will be done. I have an appt. at the MD on Tuesday to find out the results. I still do not have a surgery date scheduled. I'm hoping the apt will be made on Tuesday. I am having some issues with sugar right now. I get all my protein in for the day along with the veggies, however, I have been so nervous the last couple of days, I have been eating cookies. Fig Newtons and now, sandwich cookies. My husband buy cookies for the grandchildren. I have no idea why because they hardly eat them. Then, when they leave, the rest are here! My son had the gastric sleeve in April of this year. Since the process started the last week of January, he has lost 115 pounds! I am so very proud of him. Good luck to everyone! It is a struggle every day!!!

Who is pre-op and who is post op?
njbelybean replied to WeeWers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good morning! I had my first MD appointment on July 3, 2014. With that appointment I also had appts with the nutritionist, physical therapist, social worker and cardio-pulmonary nurse. I have a psych appointment on August 8, 2014. My decision for weight loss surgery was made after my son had gastric sleeve in the spring of this year. At his first MD appt. his weight was 381. Today, he has lost more than 100 pounds. He has so much more energy to keep up with his children. I am so very proud of him. I have thought about the surgery for years. I am a good dieter, however, a VERY poor maintainer! I have been struggling with my weight since I was in my teens. I have made goal several times and gained all back, plus more! I am one month in on keeping a food diary. I keep my calories between 1200 and 1500. Loads of Protein and vegetables. Very little fruit. Greek yogurt with less that 10 grams of sugar per serving. Yoplait apple pie Greek yogurt is saving me from sugary treats. I do indulge in sugar free/fat free frozen yogurt with fresh strawberries once a week while still staying in my calorie range. I try to exercise, however, my fibromyalgia has a tendency to kick my butt. I work full-time and one of the last things I want to do is come home from work with my body hurting, is to go for a walk. I do force myself several times a week and feel better afterwards! I wish everyone continued success with their weight loss journey! Nancy
