OMG I'm so tired of liquids...
GummyTummy replied to bebenubbins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear Lord, Help us both. I am a week and a half out and I have another week and a half before I can do puree. I actually did a chew and spit on a meatball I made for my fiance. Sad but true. It's sad because I would cut someone for a salad with light dressing at this point. What I am working on is a menu that will be rewarding when I am able to do puree so I have something to look forward to that won't violate the logic in me having the surg. Good luck girl -
Mind issues/head hunger
GummyTummy replied to Tisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tisa, My soulfood sister. We got sleeved the same day and I am from an Italian family so I know exactly what you are talking about. Literally, the morning I came home and was visiting my mother she came to ask what I wanted for dinner and if she could make me anything for Breakfast. I am worried about the same thing you are , but have devised a plan so as to not insult people by wasting their food.Honesty first, if honesty is not an option or you don't feel like explaining yourself and divulging your health history (I usually don't advocate the fib, but just fib) My go to plan has me telling someone " this is delicious, can I have a doggy bag so I can take it with me for lunch tomorrow too." or "I had a large lunch, so I am not very hungry at the moment" Again, you should be able to be yourself but if you don't feel like going through the motions, these might be some good options. -
=) love it. You and I had a starting weight of one lb difference and I just got sleeved six days ago, so this was very exciting and encouraging to see.

Hi Jadey, My best advice to you on this is to taper that cup down in size - you will want to undergo your caffeine withdraw prior to surgery so that you aren't doubly miserable with the change. Unfortunately, after your sleeve, you won't be able to have caffeine for some time ( it interferes with you getting all your hydration unfortunately. ) I would try and start on some decaf to get used to the flavor.

Those that are getting hungry so quickly, apart from portion sizes needing adjustment - make sure you are not drinking for about an hour after eating. Otherwise, you are just flushing your food right through your tummy. If you need a sip or two for something spicy that is fine, but train yourself to have no fluids 30 minutes prior and an hour after eating. Best luck

decaf coffee anyone ?
GummyTummy replied to Elayna01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. As far as caffeine goes - the reason we are not supposed to have it has nothing to do with suppressing or promoting appetite,Because caffeine blocks the absorption of water, for every oz of a caffeinated beverage you consume, you have to have an equal amount of non caffeinated fluids. This of course would complicate getting in your proper amount of hydration and nutrition when you are first starting out with the sleeve. Decaf should be fine, just make sure you are drinking it luke warm. -
Hi Meme, How many days were you in the hospital? If it was just 1, you shouldn't be on any Proteins yet as far as most doctors are concerned. In my case that came on day 5-7 if you were tolerating all Clear Liquids. Remember, your shakes should be very watery right now to help them flow through you more easily.

Hi there. I really think you need to invite someone to stay with you or forgo the comforts of your own home and stay with someone else. We are all on blood thinners after and anything could happen. Additionally, bending over with fresh incisions to feed or even leash your dog could prove to be too big of a chore. Please be safe rather than sorry.

Make sure you aren't chewing gum or sugar free candy right now. Any time your saliva meets with your stomach in any sort of quantity, your stomach starts producing a lot of acid because it is getting ready to digest what it thinks you are about to put inside it. Also, Dr. David Kim is my surgeon and he is pretty much the top one in the nation - he put me on pepcid complete. They are chewable and I do one in the morning and one right before bed to avoid acid. Another thing, make sure you aren't taking in caffeine right now. That can kick things up too. Good luck.

Hi there. I know a lot of people tell you don't cry, and I hate that you are sad, but sometimes a good cry is therapeutic for your mind / body / spirit. I got sleeved Monday and I used the little medicine cups that you get for Nyquil to portion out some of my first liquids. Don't feel in such a rush to get too heavily into the Protein if it is upsetting your tummy. There are a couple great things about having all this extra padding that we do 1) our bones are way more dense from all the extra work ( usually ) and therefor have some great storage of important things we need 2) we are obviously filled with an excess (fantastic for this period) amount of long term energy stores - so while your head might think "I'm going to starve" you won't. You are never alone!

7 days post op and in pain :( Advice?
GummyTummy replied to KarinaVSGinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Karina, I would advise giving the doc a call because your pain meds could be suppressing a fever that is present which is your body's way of fighting off infection. Additionally, the pain you are describing is likely the movement and dispersion of your gas bubble. I just got sleeved this Monday and have been in similar pain all week. Have someone pound on your back gently to help break it up. I actually had been laying with my head elevated which seemed to make my situation worse. Try laying flat on your back and don't fight the urge to burp. I warned everyone in advance that my days of being a lady when it comes to gas are over. Just Let it gOOOOOoo let it go. Good luck and update us. -
