post-op return to work

I'm in Asia and they recommend two to three days hospital stay, actually they insist on it. And i'm happy. the original expensive private clinic i found said i would be in and out in a day or same day !!! Then later with more invesigation, i found a nurse who told me the truth about the extremely high priced ELITE clinic. the doc flies in from Europe, for a week at the most, and they schedule lapband surgeries for him back to back from morning to night till he leaves. and yes, he is part owner in the clinic. The time he is gone, he has a junior doc charging the same and doing the same. The deal is, it is so ELITE because his name is attached to the clinic. Sure you can get him to do it, as he RUSHES thru it. cuz its affecting his personal bank balance. anyway.....i just wanted to say....try to walk and drink lots of Water before the surgery, like two weeks before, so you will be well hydrated etc...and have some stamina. i recommend an inflatable pillow cushion to ease the sitting at work. just put a nice pillow cover on it. no one really cares that you will sit on one...you think they will but they don't. good luck

starting the pre op diet on the 4th(tuesday)

wow....i have been doing a lot of research into LAPBANDS and learned two things.

That lapbands are not recommended for severely obese. As they often fail on it. But that gastric bypass is the way to go in that case.

Turns out in Europe which is quite advanced, lapbands are very five years ago!!! Really !
And they are please with the results for severely obese.

So this got me thinking, okay i am obese but I just qualify maybe even barely for the legal lapband wieght for get this done.

What should I do??

Then i met some doctors. Finally found one and I liked his answer.
He won't operate on me until i meet the nutritionist first and try to post op diet for three weeks BEFORE the operation to see how i cope psycologically !!!

WoW. And u know this has been my concern. So....I learned that you should try the post op diet first and that you should really be honest with what is involved in succeeding with the lapband. i mean European Docs are really NOT pleased with results in lapbands and generally recommend GASTRIC BYPASS for chronic cases etc... Do some more research people. the info is out there... anyway..im on the liquid protien diet now...lets see what happens...
  6. oh ya how do i show the CHANGES..on the FAT METER at the bottom i don't really understand how to make it work
  7. Well, thanks again and good luck to the person who just underwent the surgery. Recovery is always a little painful. Personally i had anesthia only once but it stayed in me clearly for over a week. I spoke slow and had a crushing pain in my head for a week. It was scary. U know, have decided to spend this week meeting as many doctors from different hospitals as i can. Then decide who will be my final choice. I even looked into going to Thailand. Boy, they charge more than because the British go to those hospitals and compared to the UK, Thailand is cheaper. Thailand charges more than the US to give u an idea. Anyhow.....also what is odd is the number of nay=sayers..people who say i shouldnt do this. funny how they dont understand...i need professional help to get healthy and this is the closest i can get. But with this board and my own physical research i am feeling stronger about my decision. Thats it will try to check in to give you some feed back on what different doctors in Dubai are doing.
  8.:kiss2::bandit:o:sick:heh::rolleyes:nervous:rain::whoo::straight Thanks again to all....I will continue to read these posts and do my research for the next few weeks. Hope to have surgery in early November. There is almost no wait list here for private surgery... How wierd to say ...i hope to have surgery. Gosh, i feel like a bit of a failure that I have had to come to this. But I know I shouldn't think that way. I am grateful for the technology. This must be the hardcore version of FACING onces faults etc..Facing oneself. I mean I am getting a new stomach..how crazy is that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well sisters and brothers...let's join hands and suck down some puree lol at least soon i will be singing this tune. Oh one great thing..i will save hundreds of dollars on food !!! So..how do i eat out....just Soup...or one grape?? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm let's see what develops. Keep posting and sending me messages. I read all of it ! Very very helpful peace
  9. i am amazed at how much time people have taken to respond to my post. i truly appreciate the detail and the time you have taken to respond with, that is very kind of you. :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo: i have found the answers that i felt i didn't read before all in one place. clearly i understand now what was being said....the band does control appetite, cuz i am definitely adverse to vomiting...and this alone with help me immensely eating protien liquids to fill up...good point ! wow... now i hope the Doctor agrees that I need it. I do...i have tried dieting, excersing, and still do both sort of ..but am all over the map... having a plan and focus along with a physical incentive (the band)...will hopefully bring me to my goal to re-gaining my health. I will keep you posted with what happens with me...how do i get one of those sliding wieght scales to appear in my posts in the future??? Again....i appreciate the understanding of my fears and questioning...you know being over wieght i have heard so many solutions for so long..i worry about people just wanting to take our money. it is wrong that this is not covered by insurance..it is discrimination based on mispersceptions by society and obesity. i am not fat for fun...it has hurt me so much...and my heart is now at risk as am in the high risk heart attack category now... THIS IS A HEALTH ISSUE that must be covered by insurance... like many 'womens' operations...ovaries etc... they are left off of the insurance companies list... well that is another issue. AGAIN THANKS GALS AND GUYS you are beautiful to share such honest experiences.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2: (that's a peck on the cheek for y'all)
  10. my questions is ...then why spend so much money on a band when in fact you do the real work controlling our hunger.... my problem is i eat when im not hungry now...how will that change.. exercise..i can do it now..will the band MAKE me exercise... is the BAND a modern day bottle of SNAKE OIL ???? A cure all pretense ..when the reality is ...very different i wanted to open this can of worms cuz i don't see it being discussed here i want to believe it will help me..but i am about to pluck down 10,000 dollars in cash.... and with all the research i am doing....i am asking these questions
  11. hey WASaBubbleButt....so did you find it really changed your life? i have read the said info on food restriction but i have also read that ppl eat anything and gain....too... so i am wonder where the reality lies...or lay would love to know your story...i suppose its posted here??? somewhere
  12. i wonder if this really works or is it cuz you are on a liquid diet for so long...then you lose pounds.... and once you recover...nothing really changes unless you do what you couldn't do well before and that is COUNT CALORIES... and then you don't lose ???? if you don't count... i am wondering just how great this operation is after reading these pages... WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT on this ?????? :help::whoo::bandit:car::ranger::rain::hungry::kiss:eek::faint::cry:kiss2::cool::sick
