Bypass didn't work, 2 surgical issues
lovedXJesus replied to Bariatric Bypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Shone, That sounds really discouraging to go through. I am really sorry that you have gone through all that. I never really lost all that I thought that I should. I started at 243 and my lowest weight was around 170. I have since gained back 20 pounds but started weight watchers in October 2018 and have lost 10 of that. It is def a struggle and the surgery is not the magic bullet I hoped it would be. lol I have since heard about a procedure called the ROSE procedure that is like a revision surgery that I could have done, but I think it is only covered if you have gained back a substantial amount of your weight ( I have not) or you have another co-morbidity (I do not) . But it sounds like you could be a candidate for that. You should check it out. All in all, I am happy I had the surgery done. I feel better than before and I no longer have health issues. I do not eat like I should. But I never did, that is why I struggled with my weight in the first place. You are within your rights to seek another opinion. I still do not think that my original surgeon made my stomach small enough. I am still just plugging along like before, waiting to see what might help me in this epic battle with my weight! lol New stuff comes out all the time. Maybe the next thing will be better. Good luck and let me know how you are doing. God bless you. kim -
Heparin injection site reaction
lovedXJesus replied to Sreeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same exact thing! About 2 weeks out (but not before) I started breaking out in hives at the injection sites. They itched terribly! I just discontinued the Lovanox, which I had been taking twice a day since the day of my surgery. -
Depressed..lost nothing this month
lovedXJesus replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read on here that you can try the 5 day pouch test and that will usually kick everything into going again. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html -
OK. So I can seriously eat anything..............HELP!
lovedXJesus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am feeling pretty disappointed. Since having my gastric bypass eight weeks ago, I have lost 27.5 pounds. I am plenty happy with that. It's just that nothing, and I mean nothing, bothers my stomach. I can eat anything I want with absolutely no repercussions whatsoever. I actually chose the bypass because of the side affects it usually brings. I am worried that it will have a bearing on my future weight loss. Is there anyone else out there who is in the same predicament? How did you do long term? I am currently eating 900-1000 calories a day. I know that is a lot of calories for most people, but I am losing around 2 pounds a week, which is what my goal is. Does anyone have experience with this? -
I had a massive headache in my neck and the back of my head post op in the hospital. I was absoluetly miserable. I thought it was the anesthesia ( I didn't take any pain meds. )But it turned out that it was from strain. I think when they strapped my shoulders down for the surgery, and then with the crappy hospital pillows, my neck got so strained it was killing me. The same day I got home I put a heating pad on my neck and the back of my head. OH MY GOSH!! What relief. I did that for the next couple of days and it took care of it. Honestly, it was the most miserable I have ever felt. You could try a heating pad and see if it helps. It certainly can't hurt, Best wishes.

@@cmblackmon35, I think you are doing a fantastic job!! One thing I decided before I left the hospital was that I would only weigh myself on Mondays. That has been one of the smartest things I did. I don't worry then every day when my weight might fluctuate. One week I was down 2#, the next 1/2# and the next week 3! I try very hard not to worry too much and to concentrate on eating well and excercising. I have lost 30# in eight weeks and I am thrilled!!!!! Slow and steady means less sagging I hope. lol Keep up the good work.

I am sooo glad to hear others have the same issues that I have. It's good to know that everything is ok and not broken. lol It looks like we are losing at the same pace too. I said in another post that when I was doing Weight Watchers I would have been thrilled to lose two pounds a week. So I am equally thrilled now. Thanks to everyone for their honest answers. -
I am almost 11 weeks post op and still can't keep much down.
lovedXJesus replied to AmyH62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@AmyH62.I am so sorry! Don't be discouraged. I am sure things seem insurmountable now, but they will improve. Keep your chin up and try to only read things here that are positive and uplifting. There are surely other people who have struggled like you are and they overcame. You will too! I will send up a prayer for you. -

@@Jols I can tolerate everything. This is very challenging. I also don't have the "full" feeling that most others get. I am looking for others that can relate and help me. I am happy for your weight loss success. You look like you are doing great. But, unfortunately, I am not like you. But thanks for your advice anyhow. -

@@brown eyed gal@@esskay77, I am so glad I am not alone. And you both seem to be doing great! Thanks for the encouragement. Do you mind me asking? How many calories do you eat in a day? And do you measure your food? How do you keep things under control? Thanks again. I really appreciate your responses. -
FUNYONS - NO DUMPING-
lovedXJesus replied to Joebravo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love funyuns too!!! They are a little better for you than regular chips (I think). Anyhow, nothing hard or crunchy for me yet. But I have a feeling that they are not going to bother me either. So far nothing bothers me :/ No dumping either. I am actually a little disappointed........... -
eating TOO much?
lovedXJesus replied to Joy Thompson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 5 weeks post op. I have the same exact issue. I agree with JoeBravo. Just because you can, does not mean that you should. I decided one day a couple of weeks in, to check my calories for the day....not just the amount I was eating. It was a whopping 1,100 calories!!!!! Holy cow! I realized then that this was going to be an issue. I have tracked my calories since then and while I still eat more calories than most people at 5 weeks, I am losing. I also measure everything. So that way I do not overeat for my pouch. Also. Protein is very important. You need to find a shake that you can tolerate and drink at least one a day. Your health will suffer as well as your weight loss efforts. Best wishes. -
Poll: Would you have surgery again if you............
lovedXJesus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering. i had my bypass last week. While I was in the hospital several of the staff said " you're going to be a skinny minnie." Now I know it's going to be nice to look smaller. But I had to ask myself, and now I am asking you........ Would you have had surgery if the only benefit were that you became healthier? That there were no size reduction at all? For me, I don't know if I honestly would. -
Paranoid Personality Disorder
lovedXJesus replied to Carmen Lewis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend who is bi-polar and she was able to have the sleeve done. She was unable to have a full gastric bypass because of the medications she needed to take on a daily basis. I am not sure what paranoid personality disorder is but would suggest you are completely honest with your physician about any medical issues you have. Best wishes! -
Surgery and Acrylic nails..
lovedXJesus replied to Aspring424's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not told I could not wear polish. I was wearing gel the day of surgery. While I was on the table I heard them discussing that I had gel on my nails so they hooked the monitor to my earlobe. No problem. I do know that nurses and such are never allowed to wear acrylics due to the fact that they can harbor funguses. -
If you think you might be intolerant of whey, I believe there is another protein source made from egg whites. Jay Robb?

How much should I be eating at 10 days post op ?
lovedXJesus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 days post op after GBS. I was allowed to start eating pureed yesterday and was so thrilled to be done with all liquids. I have already tried pureed boiled egg with Protein laced mayo....delicious. I also tried pureed roast beef with mashed potatoes and carrots. ALL these things being ok with my doctor. I have tolerated everything very well. That actually scares me. So I'd like to see how much others were able to eat 10 days post op. I am measuring my food because I am afraid if I do not I could overeat. I am still required to have two high Protein shakes a day. Any one have any clue how much I should be taking in or how many calories I should aim for? What did you do? -
What is Your Goal Weight at 5'5
lovedXJesus replied to sukik's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5'5. I would love to be around 145. But I am afraid that won't likely happen at my age. LOL My surgeon never set a goal weight for me, but I would be content at 160 I think. -
How much should I be eating at 10 days post op ?
lovedXJesus replied to lovedXJesus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I am eating 700-800 calories now. Isn't that a lot? I think "If I am eating this now what will I be eating later?" I hope I am doing this right........... -
Why does everything have to be so sweet
lovedXJesus replied to Beanthere's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I know just how you feel!!! I am sick of shakes. I was allowed pureed starting yesterday and that has helped but I don't want to drink shakes anymore. SMH -
I thought I would change things up yesterday and make a Protein smoothie with a little ice, plain Greek yogurt, skim milk and a scoop of powder, But it made such a large drink, it was not worth it. It's hard enough getting down 8 ounces of a protein shake. oh well. Live and learn.

Slow loser due to my age?
lovedXJesus replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My sister had surgery when she was 45. It put her into menopause. She was unable to lose all her weight. That was eight years ago. She has maintained a 100 pound loss and is pleased with where she is. I think everyone is different, But certainly, as women, age plays a part in how we lose, surgery or not. To keep things in perspective, I know that when I was weight watcher-ing it, I would have been THRILLED with two pounds a week. Especially if it was consistent and steady. Just starting my journey, but I, for one, am praying for a slow steady weight loss. Hopefully then my skin will not be as saggy!!! -

lol! You go @@bellabloom! I personally do not believe that it is superficial to want to look your best. I was actually thinking that without the change in the outward appearance, I am not sure I would have done it and wondered if anyone else thought about it that way. I did not have a lot of health issues either. But did feel like that was a likely future...... -
Hi @@darkfeary474 I am in the Frederick area also! Having my surgery this coming Tuesday at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Weight loss surgery on Public Radio this morning

This was really interesting. It makes sense that it would work. I am not too sure that many insurance companies would cover it at this point though :/
