Dr. Robert Shin - Everything Went Well!
footballmom104 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I 'm real pleased with Dr. Shin. I stayed in the hospital overnight (Women and Children's) and have had no major problems. It took me a long time to get approved (ended up changing insurances, which did the trick) but it was worth the wait. I'd recommend him to anyone. -
I'd consider the source on this one. Oprah's crazier than hell; she lost me forever when she said WLS was the easy way out and she only respected people who lost weight "the hard way" with diet and exercise. Maybe if she took the easy way out, she could keep the weight off!

What is your best NSV so far?
footballmom104 replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some good ones this morning. I went to my primary care physician for the first time since surgery and he said I looked so different to him it was like having a brand new patient! My fasting blood sugar was 100 so my diabetes is now officially controlled by diet and exercise. I can't wait for the rest of my blood work to come back. -
I agree - I would just like for mine to be perky. My boobies have sagged since, well, since I've had them, even though I didn't struggle with my weight until my mid-20s. Now, though, it's worse than ever. I keep telling myself I'm going to go to a store and try on every bra until I find one that fits perfectly and does what I want it to do, then buy one of each color no matter how much they cost. I'm a 40 band size now and might even dare to try a 38 this weekend ...

smaller than your biggest haters!
footballmom104 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost 44 lbs since my surgery Jan. 19 and my sister-in-law hasn't said one word ... not one single word. She's always been thinner than me but has started putting on weight in the past couple of years and I'm pretty sure we weigh about the same now. I know she can't stand it - she doesn't have me to look down on anymore! :blushing: -
Did anyone make it without pain pills?
footballmom104 replied to Dreamjeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took maybe two loritab when I got home - I didn't even fill the prescription because I had some of the same dosage left over from my appendectomy in August, and I took maybe four back then. I must have a high tolerance for pain or something. -
I know what you mean about shopping - it's my new obsession. I like Target, Kohls and JCP along with some of the others already mentioned. Some good websites are Newport News, Chadwick's and Metrostyle ... have fun!

what do u think????? life or temporary?????
footballmom104 replied to 2Flyguys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it's been rethinking the place food has in my life. One day a few weeks ago my boss, who was having a bad day, mentioned getting "comfort food" for lunch. I started thinking "I really can't comfort myself with food anymore ... that's what got me here in the first place." When I do treat myself, I try to do it in the context of a social occasion, when it's appropriate, and to get back on the bandwagon the next day, and so far it's working. I've done my best to stay away from emotional eating and so far that's working too. When I'm really tempted, I tell myelf "Save your "cheats" for when you really need them," and one I do that, I'm usually able to walk away. -
Is it cheating or eating like a normal person?
footballmom104 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's definitely eating like a normal person! That's why they're thin. They know that what they do 95 percent of the time is what counts, not the occasional indulgence. They have that ice cream, piece of pie, etc,. then get right back on the horse. That's what I've been doing since I've been banded and it's one lesson I hope I've finally learned. -
Help! Old Habits Returning!!
footballmom104 replied to Miriam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today wasn't one of my better days, I'm afraid. My older son's prom was last night and he was to spend the night with a friend. He called me about 5:45 AM to tell me that he'd moved his truck last night to let someone else out and backed up over a high curb and one of the rear wheels was stuck. My husband had Army Reserves so I went to try and straighten things out ... this kid lived in a brand new subdivision that wasn't on any map yet. My son had to come out to the main road to meet me. So we called a tow truck and it took three hours to come! I stopped at Wendy's on the way home to get lunch for my two boys and ended up getting a Frosty'cino - the first real stress eating I've done since surgery. I can't believe I did it and can't help but feel I've started down the slippery slope ... -
Help! Old Habits Returning!!

I'm going through that myself. I was banded on 1/19 and have been doing well, but I'm finding myself eating larger and larger amounts (although I've stayed away from the bad stuff for the most part ... knock on wood! Anyway, I'm finding myself wanting to eat the way I used to - to relieve stress or boredom or to reward myself. My entire department at work is being restructured and the stress is getting to me. It's my first major crisis without food and I'm doing OK so far but I can see why people fall off the wagon now. -
I've kept a diary since I was banded 1/19. I was writing it down in my agenda but started using the food diary on realizemysuccess.com for Realize bandsters. I'm doing pretty well with it although I occasionally skip a day.

Motivation Quotes
footballmom104 replied to brighterdays's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"You have to meet the band halfway." - I saw that on here, I think, but I don't know who posted it. I remember seeing it before my surgery January 19 and thinking it made perfect sense. -
Exactly right! Yesterday,I split an order of Chinese scallops with garlic sauce with a co-worker - first Chinese meal since surgery. But I went to the gym last night and got right back on track. You see, that's how thin people eat. They have sensible, balanced meals 95 percent of the time and allow themselves the occasional indulgence and then get back on the wagon. That's just the opposite of my pre-band eating habits - 95 percent indulgence with a little healthy food/exercise thrown in here and there. I really hope this is one lesson I've finally learned!

results not typical
footballmom104 replied to 2Flyguys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No shots here! It's what you do on a regular, consistant basis that matters, not the slice of birthday cake or the odd cookie or Hershey's Miniature ... thin people know this! -

You're Getting Skinny! Are people still nice to you?
footballmom104 replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 1/19 and have lost 33 lbs. ... I haven't noticed any differences yet. But I think a lot of "normal" people don't like to see us loose weight because they don't have you to feel superior to anymore. And people who are as heavy or heavier as we are have issues with it because we're breaking the so-called "rules" by leaving the fat thing behind and "abandoning" them. -
I have to confess....
footballmom104 replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm struggling a bit too. I'm fairly good about tracking my food and usually stay below 1200 but blew it all to hell yesterday. I got three Tacos Supreme from Taco Bell for lunch, ate two of them and forced myself to stop. But I could have eaten the third one with no problem. I'm not losing big but I'm not gaining either. I think I need another fill. On the other hand, I'm kind of proud of myself for staying away from soda, so I am doing some things right. -
I'm SO excited, and just HAVE to share..I stepped out of Lane Bryant 4 the LAST time!
footballmom104 replied to coloradobanding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go, CObanding! I was banded the same day as you and NurseMelly. I'm not quite down to a 14 yet, due to my large waist, but I'm wearing 16 pants right now ... snug around the waist, but not to the point where they're uncomfortable. I blow silent raspberries to Lane Bryant every time I pass them in the mall now! -
Really only for "health reasons?"
footballmom104 replied to marathonmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Health schmelth! I was sick of being fat and all the crap that goes with it, like being invisible, wearing ugly clothes, and having no credibility, because all fat people are stupid, aren't they? :crying: That being said, it will be nice to resolve the Type II diabetes and not take any medication. -
Emotional eating help
footballmom104 replied to auntbrat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded January 19 and was very worried about emotional eating. So far I've been doing OK. I've found other ways to treat myself - I had my very first pedicure Thursday and shopping for clothes both in person and on line is a new passion. And I'm not going to say I haven't cheated. I had a Chai High smoothie from Intajuice this afternoon. But I do live in fear. I know the eating thing is out there, lurking, waiting to strike when my life really goes ka-blooey ... I just hope my alternative coping mechanisms are strong by then. -
Crossing our legs in comfort ... I really noticed that one yesterday, sitting at my desk, when I crossed my legs more at the thigh, not just at the knee.

It's the fried stuff that doesn't appeal to me anymore. We went to a parish fish fry last night and I ordered the lightly breaded platter - ate 1 1/2 of three small pieces and a few smal bites of coleslaw and maybe two ounces of white wine. Gave the fries and hushpuppies to my 13 y.o. son and one of our dining companions finished the fish. I was satisfied and stayed that way the rest of the night.

I postponed my surgery once in part because I wasn't sure I was ready. I took a long time to get apporved because of my employer changing insurance companies and lost my motivation for a while. But I went ahead with it the second time and haven't looked back - I've lost 28 lbs so far and feel great. You don't have to have this surgery until you're darned good and ready ... but once you are darned good and ready, go for it! You'll be glad you did!

When one of your coworkers comes in with something like a 12" Subway sandwich and you're like "Sheesh! I can't believe I used to be able to eat all that!"
