  1. Thanks for a great start to my day!
  2. I've been very lucky - my only real post-op problem has been hunger! I was banded 1/19 and three days out I was so hungry I could eat a horse! I've been getting all my protein and most of my water in, but have been breaking over on calories. Yesterday was my best day, with very little hunger and only 820 calories. I go back to work today so we'll see what happens ...

    Hunger Post Op

I was banded 1/19 also and I've been so hungry I could eat a horse! Thursday was the worst - today hasn't been too bad so far. I agree, though, that I am more sensitive to it. It's something that I didn't truly feel for a long time because I never stopped eating long enough to get very hungry. On the rare occasions when I did feel it, I ate everything in sight.

    Severe Pain..

Been there and done that with the two surguries in one year ... heck, six months! I had an emergency appendectomy August 29 while awaiting approval for my lap band. I was denied shortly after that and was getting ready to appeal when my employer changed insurance companies frm Wells Fargo to Mountain State Blue Cross/Blue Shield. My surgeon resubmitted and I was approved within 72 hours, so I got my band last Monday. The lap band was the easier surgery for sure!
  5. Food being secondary ... that's what I look forward to! And nice clothes! That's going to be my new obsession!
  6. I swear that's the worst! Who do people think they are? And another thing, some of the very worst offenders are people who are overweight themselves. My dad's been heavy all his life and he never misses a chance to comment on someone who's heavier than he is. I think it's his way of letting himself off the hook - being able to say to himself "Yeah, I'm fat but look at that person!"

    Gummie vitamins vs chewables

I've been taking the gummies because that's what my husband brought home, but I just had my surgery Monday and don't have anything close to restriction, so I haven't had any problems. Ironically, I actually prefer the "chalk" kind!

    Anyone from WV???

I can relate. I live in Charleston but travel to Wheeling weekly for work ... it's hard to believe the two cities are in the same state!

    Anyone from WV???

Hey - I'm in Charleston and was banded Monday by Dr. Shin. I'm doing fine, if a bit hungry. Very little pain or gas, although I have been burping a lot. Hope you do just as well!

    Surgery on Monday

My surgery is Monday too but I didn't have to do a specific diet, just nothing by mouth after midnight tomorrow -
  12. I was scheduled for 12/1, but called my surgeon's office this morning and asked to reschedule. It was partially practial - I work for a religious organization and was scheduled to help lead a retreat in a city three hours away on 12/5 through 12/7. At first I thought I'd just tough it out but I didn't want to commit to the retreat and have to back out, nor did I want to have surgery and not be able to take good care of myself. I just figured driving for three hours and working very long days when I was less than a week out was just slicing things too fine. It means I'll have to be recertified, but I'm glad I postponed. I went a long time when I didn't think I was going to get approval and let some bad habits creep back - this gives me time to really get back on track and recommit to living life with the band. I'm relieve and hopeful to get back into the band groove -

    Rescheduled my surgery

My surgeon's office called me back a little while ago and gave me a new date of 1/19 - I really feel I made the right decision, especially in light of the fact that I had an emergency appendectomy 8/29 and it was about 10 days before I felt like myself again.
  14. Here's my story ... Started persuing lapband seriously 12/07. Did six-month medical weight loss and was denied by insurance in June 08. Got more info and resubmitted - was denied again and lost my motivation, figured it wasn't meant to be. In the meantime, my employer changed insurance carriers so I contacted my surgeon with my new info ... I was approved in 3 days and have a surgery date 12/1. But where is my motivation? Why am I not excited like I was this time last year? I know I should be more diligent about breaking old habits like grazing and gulping (and I did pretty well today) but all I can really think of is that I'm losing my bff food! and how am I ever going to make all the changes I need to make. Does actually having the band make it easier?

I am now 4 weeks out with band!!

I got my date yesterday - December 1! I can't believe it's happening so fast since I changed insurance companies! I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Anyone live in the northern panhandle?

I live in Charleston but I work for Catholic Charities West Virginia and am in Wheeling at least once a week. I just recently got my approval (after the Diocese switched insurance companies from Wells-Fargo to Mountain State Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and am waiting for my surgery date -
  17. Things I won't miss ... Ugly plus-size clothes Being ignored by men Thighs rubbing together My folks hounding me about my weight Shopping every store in town for bras that still cut me in two Things I'm Looking Forward To ... R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Being taken seriously Shopping when and were I want, and not perpetually waiting to buy new things "until I lose weight." Not worrying about losing my sight and my feet to diabetes.

    Snail's Pace

Insurance really is a key element. I was on Wells-Fargo when I began this process about a year ago. I went through the six-month pre-op program, my dr's office submitted and I was turned down. So they gathered more info and they resubmitted and I was turned down again. In the meantime, I had an appendectomy, had to quit going to the gym and regained some weight. Then, in mid-September, I got a letter from my employer saying we were switching to Mountain State Blue Cross/Blue Shield and how much better it was, blah, blah, blah, and I'm like "Yeah, right. God just doesn't want me to have this surgery for whatever reason." So I finally called my surgeon last week about the insurance change and faxed a copy of my card ... I was approved in three days and will have my surgery within the next couple of weeks. I'm stunned and still waiting for the other shoe to drop -

    Loose skin

Hi - My BMI is 39.9 and will probably be a little lower by the time I have surgery due to the diet and exercise regimen the surgeon has me on now. Did many of you have problems with loose skin after you lost your weight? I expect to have it on my belly, where probably 90 percent of my excess weight is, but my arms, face, etc, aren't all that big -

Why did you get the band?

Or non-existant, as in Target. I really like them otherwise but their plus-size department leaves a lot to be desired.

    Let's be honest about exercise

I'm exercising regularly, 3X per week, doing some cardio and weightlifting. I've stuck with it for three months, only missing when my mother-in-law passed, and for the first time in my life, I actually don't mind it that much -

    Let the games begin ...

Hi, all - I had my initial consult December 6. I got a notice from my insurance company, Wells Fargo TPA, saying the visit wasn't covered because of insufficient documentation of medical necessity. I finally, after three tries, got ahold of someone at WF and she told me she needed a letter from the surgeon with my explaining my diagnosis and outling the medical necessity of the visit. OK, fine ... Thanks for telling me in the first place so I could have taken care of it beforehand ... sheeesh!

    Realize vs. Inamed

My surgeon is in the process of changing over to Realize - he likes the 360-degree coverage and the website support -
  24. footballmom104

    Info on the Realize Band?

I just had my psych eval yesterday and spoke with my Dr - I might be one of the first three Realize bands he does, depending on when my insurance is approved! He said he liked the internet support that comes with Realize and that he'd had good experiences with Johnson and Johnson. He also said it's more efficient, since the fill space goes all the way around -
  25. I'm was measured right at 40 on the BMI, but they measured me a 5'2" and I swear I'm 5'3" and have been since sixth grade ... I think they might have done that on purpose to bump up my BMI. Anyway, I'm diabetic so that's my saving grace surgery-wise -
