I decided to have weight loss surgery after being overweight for almost my whole life and being told by my primary care Dr. that my Type 2 Diabetes is getting out of control. Being a medical assistant and hearing the stories, surgery never seemed the way to go so onward with all the crazy diets, pills you name it. Then my daughter decided to check into Lap Band surgery so I went with her to meeting and made a decision. I first waited for her to have her surgery and be support person for her while she recovered then I went for it. I was only at 35% for BMI but with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure my insurance covered this. There were many times during all the Dr. visits that I thought maybe this was not the right decision but my family talked me through it. I had so many people say you don't need this surgery just stop eating and exercise. YEAH!! Even all the Dr. apts were enough to make you think. But I still went through with it and am now so glad I did. I am 8 weeks out and off all my med's which I didn't think would happen so soon but wow. Still trying to figure out the exercise and diet but will be seeing a nutritionist in a couple of weeks to help clarify things for me. Had my first fill 2 weeks ago, everything seems fine. Sometimes still can't tell when I'm full but will talk with Dr. at next apt. Most important thing I would tell anyone would be slow down and chew.... ;)
