    SMOKING

I too quick smoking a month before my surgery, and honestly everyday is a struggle. If I'm honest I did smoke a cigarette for my birthday, and I'm 4.5 months post op. It didn't hurt or anything but it didn't encourage me either to buy a pack. I save so much money, and I feel a lot better. I used to get shortness of breath all the time, and massive headaches if I chained smoke, but now I get headaches every now and then and my breathing is so much better. So sometimes I miss puffing on a cig, but what helps me is the benefits of not smoking and that right there is all the motivation I need.

    Soda

I too haven't had a soda post op. So it's been almost 5 months since I had a diet pepsi. I'm actually scared to drink a soda. Not only because it can stretch your pouch, but because I've gotten so used to being without it that I don't even want to fall back into old habits.

So it turns out my wife is gay...

Well, I'm sorry that you are going through this and maybe this is something you don't want to hear, but I feel it needs to be said, and I apologize if you take offense, but I believe she's always had these feelings, deep down, and that's why she was never really able to connect with you beyond the friend level. She had intimacy issues because she was sorting through her own repressed desires. Also, even though you love her, and it appears very much, you are very brave to stick it out till she decides whether she does love you or not. Counseling is a great way to deal with all that, yes, but in the end you are going to have to face worst case scenario on this, because eventually she will decide to pursue women. If that happens are you still going to be cool enough to wait and see if she gets the "lesbian" out of her system, sort a speak. Again, if this is not what you want to hear, I deeply apologize but I needed to say it because I really do feel for you and your present situation. Good luck, and stay strong!!

Please help I need advice !

Well I was told by my surgeon that he didn't care what I ate the day before surgery as long as I didn't eat after midnight. So I ate the day before and I'm 4 mos post op. As long as you don't eat after midnight you should be fine. Just my opinion, and not a professional one at that, but that is what my surgeon told me.
  6. Did any of you give yourselves makeovers after reaching your goal? Do you dress a lot different from how you use to dress?? I keep imagining how I'm gonna dress once I make it to goal. I'm not talking about cosmetic surgery, but just updating your wardrobe, changing up your hairstyle or even wearing makeup and jewelry now?? I find myself trying to dress a little better now, even though I still have a long way to go with my weight loss.
  7. I feel like my weight is going in slow motion. I'm 4 mos out and only down 60 lbs. I at least wanted to be down 100 lbs by my 6 mos surgiversary, but not looking good. So what I'm gonna do is go back to the liquid diet so I can focus on fluids and protein. Maybe that will kick my weight loss into high gear. I'm so jealous that everyone have before and after pics and I'm still not ready to show mine.

    Prayers needed please

    Sending prayers your way
  10. That is terrible, and I feel for you. I'm still pretty early out post op and have not lost 100 lbs yet, but I know that once I do things will be different for me as well. I say, let them hate, and keep doing you. Don't let these ignorant folks stress you out. Just pray for them. Stay strong and continue your success.

    Labor Day Challenge!

280 exactly today...yay I made it to challenge goal!!!
  12. Now I've heard a few of you say that you should be getting majority of your protein in the food you eat, and I'd prefer it that way since I don't care too much for the protein shakes. So I asked my nutrition if I could just focus on getting my protein in food, and she told me that's impossible because I'm not eating enough to get all the protein I need daily. Which is kinda true if you think about it. Our new tummy isn't built like it use to be to hold enough food to get the amount of protein. What are your thoughts on this? I'm 4 mos out, surgery date 4/8/15. So maybe that just applies to me because I'm still kind of early out?

    About Protein?

My protein target is 60g, but that's what I set for myself. My nut never told me about how much I should be getting in a day. She just stressed that I at least get in 1 protein shake because she believes there is no way I'm gonna get it all through my food.

    Time to reset!

I had RNY, and although 60 lbs in 4 mos is good, I was told by my doc that I should've lost that at 3 mos post op. Majority of people on here have lost at least 100 lbs by their 6 mos, and are able to show their before and after pics, and although everyone says the weight loss is very noticeable, I'm not noticing it. I just thought that since I lost the 1st 50 lbs in 3 mos, I would lose the other 50 by 6 mos.

    Labor Day Challenge!

    282.4 today...Officially down 60 lbs, and only 2.4 lbs to challenge goal...yay!!!
  16. @@mzblaze36, what was your goal, and how long did it take you to get to onederland? Your success is an inspiration to me.

    Stop it!

You know what's funny??? Chick's with so much mouth. Probably couldn't bust a grape in a food fight. And it's sad that it's coming from another black female. Sorry, but I'll call it what it is. We are all going through this journey, and some may need more attention than others, but if you don't need or want the support here, then "bye Felicia." Some people are so ignorant and I don't know what so called good paying job she got...hiring guetto a$$ people...I'm done!!!

    My worst fear

Sometimes I think to myself what if this isn't going to work for me. Granted I'm glad to have lost 50 lbs in 3 months, what if that's it? I keep hovering between 290 and 292. Now I know what your gonna say, "You're doing fine, stick to the program, stalls happen, etc, but I can't help but feeling like I'm not going to lose all the weight. I find myself obsessed with others success stories, and dreaming that one day I'll have a success story of my own. I spend 90% of my day looking at before and after pictures wondering if I'm ever gonna be as small as the rest of you veterans. To be able to enjoy shopping, finally being noticed by the opposite sex, and not being treated like I'm not good enough. I couldn't wait to get out of the 300s, but even being 292, I'm still way too close to it. Does anyone else have or had these fears during this journey?
  19. Were there times that you thought you would never make it to goal? Because I'm about to be 4 mos post op and down 57 lbs, and that's good and all but the first 50 came off at 3 mos, and I've only lost 7 going in to month #4. Oh I had surgery April 8th.
  20. leag78

    April bypass buddies.

isn't it a great feeling to get out of those miserable 3s? What a great accomplishment. Way to go!!!
  21. My personal goal is between 155-160, my surgeon's goal for me is 180. I'm 5'8, and have 107 lbs to go to get to his goal. Hell I'd just like to finally see onederland.

    Labor Day Challenge!

    287.2 today, thanks
  23. For a while I thought why hasn't anyone else said anything about my weight loss, and I even mentioned it to one of the ladies that commented on my weight loss. She stated that everyone is noticing but not everyone is gonna say something, but trust me they notice. I really felt good then. I really feel motivated to keep going, even though I still got a long way to go.
