Friendships and Gastric bypass surgery
leag78 replied to leag78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@Pac-woman well said. I totally agree with your post. You think that you r friends, especially the ones closest to you would be the most supportive because they can clearly see how your weight plays a huge role in your insecurities, but they also were comfortable knowing that you were no competition for them when you're about 200lbs heavier than they are. I'm just curious to see how are friendship will change after surgery and if it will survive. -
What are your thoughts on smoking before and after Gastric bypass surgery
leag78 replied to leag78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I tried Buproprion(Wellbutrin) and it didn't work for me because I still had the cravings. So I stopped taking it and Chantix isn't covered by my insurance and it's expensive. -

Wow this is truly an amazing story, and I'm new to this site and glad that I found this app. Hearing everyone's story really makes this journey easier for me. I'm pre-op and just waiting on a surgery date. I've finished all the necessary requirements to get approved and now I wait. You all are very beautiful and your stories really touch my heart. -
What an inspiring story. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait until I have my surgery.

What are your thoughts on smoking before and after Gastric bypass surgery
leag78 replied to leag78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those are all really good suggestions, but unfortunately I haven't found one e-cig that I like. The gum does help though and I like the idea of just holding an actual cigarette in hand without lighting it up. -

True @@Kindle I totally agree and that's what I keep telling myself, but the painful truth is I enjoy smoking cigarettes when hanging out with friends. I'm more of a social smoker, if that's a thing...lol -
What are your thoughts on smoking before and after Gastric bypass surgery
leag78 replied to leag78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I disagree with the Doctors when they say if you can't quit smoking then your chances of succeeding after surgery will decrease because one has nothing to do with the other. The surgery is a tool to help me control the my eating habits and unfortunately there is no surgery that I know of to help with nicotine cravings. So the 2 are very different. I know that I'll follow all the rules post surgery and I'm gonna figure out how to quit smoking but it's just really hard. I've even prayed about it, asking the Lord for help. My idea is to try the gum to control the cravings, and try to stay home, because going out seems to be the trigger. I'm fine at home. I Don't even think about smoking at all, it's just when I leave the house and go out and party. -

I know I shouldn't be smoking and I have slowed down to maybe 2 or 3 a month and I think that's good then a pack and a half a week. It's hard to stop cold turkey, but I have heard the gum helps with the cravings and I'm definitely going to try it. -
Wow, what an inspiration. Your success definitely gives me something to look forward to. Way to go!!!

Who is scared to give up food?
leag78 replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surprisingly I'm not afraid of giving up food. I can't wait to give up the foods that put me in this situation in the first place. -
Congrats I'm looking at a Feb date too. Just waiting on my dr to re check my protein on Jan 23

So THIS happened the other day. Me and my big mouth.

Some people have no filter and say whatever comes to mind...I'm glad you said what you said back...way to go -
I can't wait to start my pre op diet. My dr wants me to increase my protein 1st because my protein was too low. But I know once I get to pre op diet stage I'm closer to getting a surgery date.
-
Okay so I finished my 6 months pre-surgery requirements. Ready for a surgery date only to receive a call from the scheduler to tell me that my lab work shows my protein levels are too low and they have to wait a month to retest and now it looks like I won't have my surgery until February...I feel like crying. Will I ever get this surgery???
-
I'm done being depressed about the wait because in a way it does give me more time to be sure if this is really what I want to do, and it is. I appreciate the insurance company giving me 6 months to prepare myself physically and mentally. Got to look on the bright side.
