I had my surgery on a Wednesday and didn't get out until Saturday. Apparently my duodenum had to be stretched to the max and the surgeon was scared the stitches might work loose so I couldn't drink anything until Friday and wasn't allowed out of the bed until Friday. I have been doing great since though and most people are out really quick. Good luck!

I had my second follow up appointment last week and my doctor was like why aren't you doing more than walking?? I was super annoyed and wanted to be like because you didn't say I could yet!! But now I'm nice and sore all over trying to build the muscle up and it is great!! Going to take time but I'm really enjoying it but like you said above, getting bored with the food and have to step if up. I'm not much of a cook so easier is better and I'm still working in new veggies but a salad sounds so good! Know what I'm having for lunch today! Make it a great day everyone!!

Hiding the scale!
joybell18 replied to bigloser2014's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Haha, I had my boyfriend hide my scale a couple weeks ago too! I'll have him pull it out once a week once this Halloween challenge starts but that's it! Believe me, I've looked for it but he is good and I'm glad I can't find it! -
So glad I found this thread! I'm joining the YMCA this week and can't wait to get to a yoga class. I know very little but have wanted to do it for a while now and know the benefits are awesome. Thanks for all the tips!

Count me in also! First one for me also, how fun!

Believe me, I've had some blah moments! But I also feel like I'm having some moments that are really good and I had a lot more blah moments before surgery. I'm feeling pretty good and every day I feel better and stronger. I think I'm doing pretty good, having a hard time getting in all of my calcium and think I need some new ideas for food. How are you feeling? I also had an incision that got inflamed and wasn't healing so I had to go back to the emergency room a week after getting out. Luckily it was only excess fluid so they drained it and then packed it. It finally closed around a week ago for good but what a pain! So sorry you got an infection, I can't imagine! I'm sitting here in the surgeon's office for my follow up and there is a man who has had a really hard time since his surgery and I am so thankful that I've had it pretty easy. Knock on wood! I've rambled on long enough but it is so nice to have a surgery buddy! You keep in touch also and I hope your day is getting better!

Hi Pixers! Yesterday was 6 weeks for me also and I think 39 lbs is awesome! I'm only down 30 lbs so far but am pretty happy with that. Keep up the great work and stay positive!

I still can't believe how easy I had it, liquids for just over a week and I did one day of puréed and he said nope and moved me right to soft foods. I can't imagine being on mushy for that long! Good luck!

I hate not liking the smell or taste of something I used to like. I love eggs but I'm having a really hard time liking them now which sucks because they are such a great protein source. My bypass was 7/9 and I found the protein shakes horrible also so it was nice when my doc told me to stop them. I had my bypass in Delaware county PA so right outside Philly. Good luck and every day gets better!

I was not looking forward to this part of the process! I had to switch doctors at one point and I'm glad I did, my first doc was going to have me on 2 weeks liquid diet but the doctor I ended up with is awesome! He had me on a strict meat and veggie diet for the week before surgery. I can say that even that after a week was hard because no dairy or carbs at all but much better than liquid only. Good luck and hang in there!

Good luck Pik! Hang in there! My sister is a nurse and she always told me to not let the doctor's just act like it's nothing and if you think you need that endoscopy keep telling them. Someone will hopefully listen but you know your body better than they do. Thinking positive thoughts for you!

Using Straws - if drink is 0 cal, why can't u
joybell18 replied to BDM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi BDM, what I was told is that drinking from a straw can make you swallow air which can cause bloating and stretch the pouch. I'm still so amazed at what every doctor tells their patients because it varies so much! Good luck! -
Still on liquids 10 days out.
joybell18 replied to maebugg75's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! I'm almost a month out and had a different experience also. The day after my surgery I wasn't allowed to have anything but those water sponges and a couple ice chips, apparently he had a hard time stretching my duodenum (sp) to fit so they were concerned a stitch would slip. I was on liquid about a week then did one day of puréed and had my doctor's appointment and he said nope, move right to soft, he really threw me for a loop! I've been fine and adding things here and there to see how I do and haven't had any major issues. It really is interesting how every doctor is different. Good luck! -
Extreme Fatigue! 1 month out
joybell18 replied to livingmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Livingmore, I was feeling very fatigued also the first couple of weeks, RNY on 7/9. My home care nurse said I should be taking iron and I checked with my doctor and he said that was ok and I've been feeling better ever sense. The biggest issue with iron is that it makes bowel movements pretty hard and that is so not fun, I've been taking fiber also and it's starting to help. Good luck! This healing process isn't easy, if it's not one thing it's another. Hang in there! -
I'm down 16 lbs since surgery on 7/9 and I feel the same way that it should be more but I'm happy! The cool thing is that since I started this whole process a year ago I'm down a total of 43 lbs. it's nice to see where everyone else is in this process.

I had my RNY on July 9, feeling pretty good just a couple of annoying things like one of the incision areas is still giving me issues. Getting there slowly but surely!
