Baldness is in my future .... :/

I had not heard that about zinc and Iron before ... But I googled it and yes, you are correct. I know that iron and Calcium fight for absorption .... One more thing to remember. ???? At last check my blood work was good ... but it never hurts to check again. My 6 month checkup is a ways away. Now ... Must clean out the shower drain. Urgggggg.

Baldness is in my future .... :/

So hair loss is a real thing ... as I have learned over the past 8 weeks. My surgery was on 12/18/14 and I started losing hair about 8 weeks ago. I am losing handfuls at every washing and over the past 8 weeks I have seen about a 50% loss according to my stylist. I pound Protein, Biotin, zinc and magnesium along with my bariatric Vitamins and nothing has reduced the loss. I started with LOTS of thick hair, so it still isn't noticeable to many people, but YIKES! If it doesn't slow or stop soon I will be bald. Has anyone actually needed to go wig shopping? I lost lots of hair after each of my three pregnancies, but this is ridiculous.

    MO - Kansas City

I had my surgery done in KC in December, but I live in KS. I would suggest this group is cross-listed in KS, since KC sits halfway in both states.
  4. My dietitian told me its 64oz of liquid (sugar free, caffeine free, non-carbonated) and that the shakes count as part of the liquid requirement. So ... 3 protein shakes count as 24oz of the liquid requirements. That makes it easier. :-)
  5. I am so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time ... but you can do this! You are well on your way to a new, healthier life. I will keep you in my prayers.
  6. I'm having a very easy time of it. Little pain and no nausea. Doc said everything went perfectly. I've been up waking and am feeling good. I won't be doing crunches anytime soon .... but all in all. I'm goooood.
  7. I started this journey in April of 2014 ... and now, after fighting with my insurance company since September, finally getting approved and anticipating a January surgery date ... I received a call last night .... There was a cancelation ... I am booked for December 18th! I couldn't be more pleased, but yikes! I haven't even started holiday shopping. Any advice out there for a last minute last week pre-op?
  8. Good luck to you! I am early AM tomorrow, but my surgery center is 4 hours away so I'm leaving tonight after I sit the kids down for dinner. Give us a shout tonight to let us know how it goes.
  9. Okay ... Good luck to all of you scheduled on the 15th! You will be in my thoughts. We will be joining you soon. ????
  10. Me too! Although I'd feel more optimistic if I didn't just spill half of my Synthrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel down the front of my white shirt. ????

    December 18th!

Yes. My two week liquid diet was cut to a one week liquid diet ... it was a "start tomorrow" phone call. It's a good thing I have been waiting since October and am STOCKED with protein drinks. I am elated ... but still in shock. ????
  13. Whoot whoot! I'm so excited I can hardly sleep.

    December 18th!

Thank you! I have been on the Vitamins and Calcium since September .... Can't wait to be on the other side. :-) It looks like I have some surgery-soulmates. Awesome! ????
  15. Mine was submitted on 9/24. Then they asked for more records on 10/3 ... which they received on 10/6, but, apparently this restated my 3 to 15 working day clock. Still waiting ... I'm climbing the walls. :-/

Question. How long did you have to wait between insurance approval and surgery date? I am waiting for approval right now and am trying to get a rough estimate on surgery date.

I am having my sleeve done through KC Bariatrics (submitted to insurance on Wednesday) - with Dr. Hamilton. I paid the $250 program fee, and then the initial fee for the surgeon visit, but then I hit my deductible, so I'm at 100% coverage for the surgery (yeah) so I can't be of much help. Sorry.

    HELP! I am so anxious!

I am having my surgery done at the Bariatric Center in Lenexa too. I live in central Kansas so I have a 4 hour drive for appointments. Their team is fantastic! I have had 2 appointments with the dietitian, first appointment with the surgeon and have completed my psych eval. Third appointment with the dietitian and pre-op class are schedule - I am hoping for a mid October surgery date, but it depends on how long it takes for the insurance to give final approval. The process is taking much longer than I expected - I called to schedule my first appointment in late April, but I'm past the jitters ... now I'm just excited. Their team will do a lot to help with your fears. :-)
