Having a really hard time learning to slow down my eating - HELP!
alexsisv replied to MaryRN66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you don't have distractions like TV or your phone. Focus on listening to your new tummy. -

Just read your subsequent posts. Are you still in pain?

I had a 2nd hiatal hernia with constant pain for 3 months. Couldn't clearly see it on 2 upper gis and endoscopy. Felt like I had a golf ball stuck in my throat. As soon as they got a clearer picture, I had surgery two days later. Thankful to have asked for vicodin for pain relief. Also, be pushy! You have to be your own patient advocate. My surgeon who did my sleeve plus hernia repair #1, did #2 repair too. If he wasn't available I would have found an alternate. There is no reason for you to suffer. If they can't temporarily get you out of pain with Rx, then they need to get you relief via surgery.

It's not goodbye forever. It will just be different. Cravings will change and soon it just won't be worth it to have that "treat". Keep in mind, losing weight before surgery gives your surgeon more room and the size of your liver will shrink. I crashed and lost 10 pounds 2 weeks before surgery. Is the food funeral really worth it? Going to have to find other things that bring you joy other than food. There's a great big world waiting for you to discover. :-)

Post op stomach issue
alexsisv replied to Monica77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've experienced something similar and it was peristaltic muscle contractions of the sleeve. Can feel it significantly with crunchy foods or something that just doesn't agree with the sleeve. Also, things just feel weird and mostly crappy this soon in your sleeve journey. When in doubt or worry, talk to the surgeon. -
Protein vs. Calories? How much to survive?
alexsisv replied to LightlyMyDarling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you are going thru. It's physically challenging to get enough calories. I'm at 4 months post op and should be at 1000 min. I'm averaging 600 and now really pushing to hit 1000. As a net result, my body has hung onto every calorie, my weight loss has been about 10 lbs per month and I'm sure I have nutritional deficiency. when I'm hitting 1000 cals, the scale drops again. You will find a balance. -
Nope. You are fine. Don't stress. This is a long term solution and you will find what works for you.

Newbie - 2 weeks post op with loads of questions
alexsisv replied to swtnss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sending good thoughts your way. This site has an amazing support group and it sounds like you are filling in the blank just fine even though your nutritionist is out of the office. Early pain was an indicator that the sleeve wasn't ready for that type of food or quantity. Dial back to liquids as needed, take tylenol and don't hesitate to call the surgeon if the pain is more than what tylenol can kick. -
Can you venture out into some new drinks? Maybe you are getting bored with your liquids? I'm going on 4 months post op... too scared to even drink anything bubbly.

How can I get the 60g of protwin?
alexsisv replied to Sexy Granni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Turkey burgers - 31g of protein. Protein bars are about 15 to 20. You learn to eat strategically. -
I agree with what others have posted. It's a fear. Personally, I just went through this. It's like part of me is so use to failing and thus needing the bigger clothes in a few months as the pounds would come back on. Get rid of the clothes! Be free.

3.5 months post op.... what's been tough for you?
alexsisv posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it's the concept that I will end up eating less than my 5 year old when I go out go dinner with friends and family. The confused dinner guests and wonderment. It's serious work. 2nd complaint, hair loss. I am dropping hair like it's going out of style. Insight? Suggestions? -

What is everyone NOT going to miss after sleeve?
alexsisv replied to alexsisv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right behind you at 3 months out. I stopped worrying about if I'm going to make a chair break due to my weight. I shop at regular size stores. I am wearing prettier clothes and makeup again. (These make me feel good.) There have been tremendous sacrifices and life has changed on this adventure. A lot of work would be an understatement. I am constantly aware of what I'm eating to ensure adequate nutrition. I can run after my daughter when we play chase now. Next year, I will go back to scuba diving. -
My surgeon mentioned it on several occasions. Sees more folks become alcoholics with RNY rather than VSG. That's what his take was.

Holy cow! Great work. Where did 2 months go? I remember cheering you on surgery day. Way to go.
