Got laid off 1st day back to work from surgery

he should have offered you another position even that meant retraining
  2. WLS is mega serious. Like you say it changes the digestive system. It shouldn't be seen as the be all and end all. For most people it is phychological and professional help is required whether you want it or not. There are a lot of resources out there, so jsut a matter of finding them and asking for help. I had the sleeve and woke up thinking what the hell have I done. I revised to rny because of reflux and preventing any chance of throat cancer which my grandpa died of. If my reflux wasn't so bad and wasn't causing me problems I would have stayed with sleeve. Also had another hiatus hernia that needed reparing. When I woke up from RNY saying what the hell have I done. When making such drastic decisions, we all need to use a logical approach. Write down pros and cons. Do the possible benefits outweight the possible complications. Are you prepared for the worse, whatever, that is for you. I made sure I had my will updated. I also thought about what would happen if I had too stay in hospital for months on end. For those who have families what and how would WLS affect it. Also work wise how will it affect you - eating small meals and people asking qs or giving you a hard time? Try not too worry too much. Keep positive.
  3. how fast are you eating? in between bites/spoons put the cutlery down. at least it help get you into a good habit. i was revised from sleeve to rny last Friday and find the recovery is easier, however, still difficult to take my meds and my tummy still hurts so have to be careful. I am very tired but that might be because you 'do not' sleep in hospital lol. I am still on liquids and just want too chew something lol
  4. I agree, seems very early too be eating solids. Call your surgeon. Are you taking vitamins yet? Also, like the others said are you drinking enough?

The Gastric Bypass is Rockstar League!

glad to hear you are well. I have the vsg and at the time of that surgery had a hiatus hernia repaired. after goiong back to my surgeon and some tests and careful thought I am off to have a revision to RNY today. I am so over this reflux and not eating well because of vomiting etc. Do worry that constapation will still be an issue so anyone has experience please let me know.

    My nightmare

Thanks for sharing. I am having a sleeve revision to rny this Friday. Had the sleeve in June 2012 but due to reflux which is worse not better I will revise. I have had reflux since I got pregnant in 2005. I also have a return of a hiatus hernia,, had one fixed with sleeve surgery. I know a few people who had sleeve with complications and were revised to bypass. One has extreme complications. The other 2 have had a few complications. I think ti is good to know all sides oof the story and be prepared for anything as much as you can.

Just a die note I love the nut work you use in the states to describe your primary local dr. We call them gps in Australia, as in, general practioner. One thing that people should be aware of is that different types of WLS will not work for everyone. The band works great for some and not others, same as sleeve and bypass. When I originally went to my surgeon we discussed my reflux and how it could disappear with the sleeve but maybe not and then I would need to think of other options. As he discribed it the sleeve is a high pressure environment so I will be revising to a RNY next week. I also have another issues. Glad I got my sleeve as it did help me lose some original weight.
  11. thanks so much for starting this thread. also thanks to everyone who has contributed. it is less than 2 weeks until I have a revision of my sleeve to RNY. Due to reflux which I had prior and a hiatus hernia 'return'. Had sleeve op about 26mths. I have a great surgeon who is supportive. I am scared of failing yet again but know that medically I am having a hard time. Totally agree that weight loss/maintenance is bloody hard, otherwise we would have WLS. WLS can be thought of as a helpful friend, there to offer support and encouragement but also going to let you know when you stuff up lol. I was only 9kg to my goal now about 19kg. I know I can get there as I told myself I don't want to go back to being unable to do things I can now. I am glad I went back to my surgeon. bug hugs and god bless
  12. haven't had that problem. hope you get better

    Complications

pik - hope you get better. you shouldn't have to suffer like that
  15. I am having a sleeve revision to RNY on the 22nd August. I had the sleeve and a hiatus hernia repair 29 june 2012. I don't regret the sleeve as it has help me lose about 30kg (40kg but gained weight). I can do heavy work like lift big rocks and logs in my garden, walk fast (can do a km in about 8min 30secs), play on the playground with my daughter and other kids, clean the house without getting puffed out). About a month ago I went back and saw my surgeon. I told him that I feel like a failure - eat slider food and drink calorie laden drinks because I don't get pain when I do, if I ate what he wants me too I can get a few tablespoons in or maybe half a cup, even then I might vomit. I a still on Nexium (since 2005 pregnancy) and still get reflux. I had a massage and threw up bile in my mouth, had to swallow it so I wouldn't vomit on the floor. So with the reflux issues an what was found in a barium swallow and endoscope, I am getting the RNY and a cardioplasty (to fix hiatus hernia). I don't regret the sleeve. However, even thought I am scared I am grateful to hear positive comments from others
