Long and some TMI!!! So I was contemplating to go or not to go to my fill appointment next week.. well I ended up seeing my surgeon first thing this am!!! I got car sick on Sunday going the beach with DH and kids...monday I did liquids and Tuesday felt better and had some eggs (ok I had one bite of scramled egg) and lost it.. the entire day my pouch hurt.. liquids were hurting..by 3pm I had puked twice and it went down hill from there.. I was mentally hungry but not able to eat anyhting.. so i made some tea thinking it would help..nope..that all came up.. so now I had to take my dd to gymnastics..got sick twice there..took her to dinner while we waited for her cousin..the Water made me puke.. so now i realize i am not feeling good..i got sick 6 more times before getting home.. at home i was gtting sick every 5-10min..(No I had not eaten or drinken anything,,,I was not able to swallow my saliiva which in return came up with a lot of force).. around 9 I get into bed and have DH get me the bucket,..I had no energy to get to the toilet.. I was not thinking straight either..after getting sick in my bucket 4more times I finally sleep propped up in sever pain with heating pad (i thouight may help).. so 1am it starts again.. now its stomach bile..I panic..I have not attempted any liquid in over 7hours and I feel as though my stomach has come up through the port opening..I call my local ER and they have no clue what to do with the band..I cried.. I was scared and 2hrs from my surgeon..so I call the on call..he says come down first thing in am and that I need a complete unfill.. I manage to go to sleep in pain and no puking..at 530 when DH is in shower I inform him that he needs to drive me to surgeons..so we call the nanny and get on the road at 630.. I called my surgeon when we go into town and she met us at her office (she told me that she wanted a barium test done after fill to check for slippage) so she undoes the fill ..when she says Wow...thats a lot of Fluid in there..that is way to much!!!! she said that she is having issues filling this band ( holds 4ccs) and was not happy.. after teh unfill I was still in a lot of pain.. she would not let me drink in case they needed to do surgery..so off to the hospital..i do the nasty barium and all is good!!!! she says liquids for 2 weeks and see her in 4-6 to start fills again!!! I am relieved.. I was in pain and I should have gone in sooner!!! I was sooooo happpy to drink water after I got the all clear!!! My hubby said he has not seem me drink so much in a long time!!! I am very sore but feeling better!! I do not feel as though my stomach is upside and stuck in the stoma anymore!!! I am going to do SBD as soon as I can handle food!! I love the food (my entire family is SBD lifestyle and lately I could only handle a bite or 2 of food) Dr said the swelling could take a few weeks to go down...but I am hopefull it will be better sooner!! Thanks for reading!!! This was very scary to me!!!

I am doing better!! Still sore.but able to drink ok and have more energy now than in a long time!! It is nice to drink with no pain!!! It was very scarry..I tend to handle pain well and not think its as bad as it is..I just keep telling myself that this is not supposed to hurt me, its to help me.. so I am going to go slow.. I have an appointmnet mid may to go back..not sure if i will get a fill then or not, at least the option is there and i am in no rush..I have learned portion control and want to keep the weight loss going! Ill keep u updated!

Sorry to hear that!! I know ur pain!! I had an unfill yesterday because I was vomiting out of control..darn stomach felt like it was stuck in the stoma!!! Do u eat SBD style foods?? Those help me because there are no limits so to say of healthy options..good luck

I also got the 4cc band in October 07'..my Dr said it was a new low pressure something or other ( i was not very coherent this morning) .anyhow her remark was this band has been giving her issues at fill time..she said getting the "right" amount is harder because so little goes so far.. I had an unfill today with it...

I am in Napa so Sac area is easier to get to... but thank you!

Are there any support groups in N.Ca? I had my surgery by Dr.Foster out of Burlingame.. hard to explain to family that I want to eat the entire thing of food..but really can eat a few bites.. think a group is what I need...

The card is an informational thingy..it says how much the card holders stomach can hold..I called Disney before as on their website it said that they accommodate any dietary needs ..that was how I new to take my card.. Makes sense to me!! I was able to eat a fair share of healthy options down there!!! I was given the card in the hospital..it is also for medical persons in case of emergency..even has an xray picture of a band on stomach!!! Disney is great!! Good luck!

I went to Disney a few months ago..I had surgery Oct 07'.. I took the card they gave me after surgery and was able to buy things at the childs price. If we did the buffet style meals I ate the smoked salmon, eggs and cottage cheese.. It worked out great!!! I took a few bites of DH and kids yummy snacks..it was more like 1 bite..I was worried about it also (eating there) but I did great and even lost a few pounds with all the walking!!! Thank you.. I Thought of going in but my surgeon will tell me to go on liquids for as long as I need and I really do not want to.. WHen I went in for an unfill she was like um..if food is getting stuck than WHY are you eating??!! I was like um...cuz my brain is telling me I AM STARVING and I am addicted to food which got me here in the first place!!! She really did not want to unfill last time and will not this time unless I do liguids first and I have issues with that because the shakes tear my tummy and bowels up like the devils himself spawned something in there and makes me miserable... I will consider going in.. just have to be prepared for her lecture.. she loves my weightloss and said i am doing great!! but I am still frustrated!

Hello all!! Ok so I have lost now 50lbs since my surgery 6months ago!! I am very excited about that!!! Now my issues that I need answers to.. I got my 2nd fill in Feb..it was to tight so she took out .5cc and it was an immediate relief!!! Recently the band has felt tighter..some days I can eat more than others, most days I take a small bite or 2 and thats it..Many of times I feel stuck and awkard and it either comes up or goes down.. I am not eating forbidden food..sometimes cottage cheese or eggs do this.. I am feeling hungry a lot .. my other issue is I cannot for the life of me stop drinking when I eat. I feel as though as soon as I eat I realize how thirsty I am and that is just an awful slimy painfull mess!!! Is there any I can stop myself or some trick anyone else has that works? If I drink before a meal I feel to full.. I am just frustrated.. I think it is mental hunger that wants to eat but I physically can't. All I eat is Protein foods, veggies don't go down well most days and forget any kind of carby stuff.. Also I get nauseated feeling throughout the day..can the band cause this? thank you for any advice!!! I am also cancelling my fill appointment this week...there is no way I want to be tighter!!!

After 2 weeks of being "tight" and not able to ANY solids and having mash potatoes get stuck tonite I finally called my DR.. she said that I am way over tight and need an unfill..so first thing in AM I am driving down..I did not realize how much pain I have been in..she told me to sip water, apple juice or gatorade till tommorow..I am feeling relieved...any idea on how much they will take out?

Thank you..I am very excited about getting unfilled!! I thought I could wait, but we are going to Disneyland next week and there is no way I want to have issues down there!!! The Dr put in 1cc 2weeks ago..and before that I was able to eat, just a little more than I wanted to..so maybe 1/2cc will work..thank you again!

I had my 2nd fill on 1/29/08..My Dr put in 1cc if I recall..she had me stay and drink 1 cup of water after, which went down fine.. I cannot eat any solids still..does this mean I am to tight? I can do shakes and soups..yesterday am I took a tiny tiny piece of egg..chewed n chewed..and it got stuck.. this am..I took a tiny piece of inner grape..(I could not resist) chewed it..it got stuck.. I ended up throwing up the warm liquid I drank after (just water)..my Doc said to stay on liquids for up to 2 weeks (she said some people need to)..will this get better? I really want to chew something.. I am going to Disneyland in a few weeks.. and don't want to get stuck down there.. I have lost 6lbs since Tuesday.. Any suggestions ideas will be great!! Thanks

Hello I think the fill hurt because he did not insert the port..Dr.Foster knew exactly were it was!! I felt I had more than enough information, have you gone to the hospital meeting yet? I really liked having a private room, and it was nice have my DH there..just as an extra hand if needed. I was not allowed to drive until I was done with pain meds, maybe a week or so.. I was very sore but also had scar tissue removed from my c-section area from my baby last year.. they give you a great book of info at the hospital, before surgery.. I am now really feeling restriction..it's great!!!! I have lost 35lbs since surgery..11 after my first fill in mid December.. Dr.Foster said that is good weight loss..I have not exercised really yet.. You will do great!

Dr.Foster is great!! I just saw her on Tuesday for my 2nd fill!!! My 1st fill I had to see Dr.Vetter(sp?)..and the fill was painfull...hers was not at all!!! Good luck with your surgery! The staff @ El Camino is great!!! My DH got to stay in the room with me as well!! Have a great surgery and speedy recovery!

Hello I am in Napa.. I went to Dr.Foster in Burlingame..I had surgery October 17 of 07'!

When I was discharged from the hospital they gave me a card..it also says how much I can consume on it (1/4 cup at a time) Also says it is MRI compatible..I keep it with my DL in my wallet.. It shows a picture of the band in illustration and xray form..

Drink more water..It does help..you loose weight and then your body will hold..drinking water helps to flush the fat out of the cells..I learned that years ago when I did a DR suppervised weight loss liquid diet..it made sense..so water water water.. eventually it will come off..

Mine is on the left level with belly button..I had my surgery on 10/17/07 and the steri-strip just fell off yesterday over the port..that is my most painful site also..

My surgeon required a 10% weight loss and if you did not loose or gained weight back they rescheduled you. They were very clear about this. I only had to loose 10lbs because of my hernia, but when I went to the hospital pre-op in all the papers they gave it said do NOT gain weight...we asked the nurse and she said if you go in on surgery day weighing more than they cancel..they are very concerned about your liver and it not shrinking. I went to a center of expertise so they may be more strict. I only had to do one of clear liquids before the surgery and I did south beach before that. HTH..Good luck

since day 2 post op I have had explosive bms, almost dirrahea, ewll it is with major force..anyone else??

I was banded 10/17 and it hurt..I have had 2 csections, gall bladdr removal and breast inplants with mod tt...this hurt..but this being day 2 I am doing ok..I am getting up a lot and walking, taking my pain meds and even cooked for our huge halloween bash tommorow ntie! I am not holding my baby and not lifitng anyhting, but I am using a heating pad when I lay down and that really really helps.. I am better then surgery day when I did ask myslef what did I jsut do!! Everyone is differnt..it will hurt it was surgery! Hope everyoen feels better soon..oo and the gas pain in my shoulder it helped when my husband massged it and the heating pad on it as well.

Hi, I am new to this board and will have the lap band on 10/17..I will also have my hernias repaired..has anyone had this also? My Dr is requiring a 2night stay in the hospital because of the hernias. TIA
