  1. I work for Cigna and we actually have a 5 business day turn around time to either approve or deny. I submitted my request Nov 24th and recieved a denial on the 5th day. I was missing a required document, and they don't put it 'on hold', they issue a denial. I got the needed document and resubmitted on December 4 as an appeal to the denial, and approval was faxed over to my surgeons office on Dec 11th. They're required to stay within that timeframe. I called about every other day though to see where in the process it was. As for the physician supervised nutrional piece- that length is set by whomever your employer is. I only had a 3 office visit [no less than 89 days] requirement to meet.

    Physician vs dietician

See yeah for me I don't have copays. I have the coinsurance deal. The dietician isn't included with the fees to the surgeons office, she's not on staff with them (same with psychiatrist for the mental health clearance will have to be an independent) Which would be so much easier if it was just one bundle. She's just someone who works in conjunction with the office and comes in on certain days to see Bariatric patients. My initial visit would be like $250 and then $45 every 15 minutes...out of pocket since I haven't met my deductible this year. So I'm definitely going through my primary care physician (which would be the same 3 months as a dietician). Just didn't know if anyone else had gone that route.
  3. I like most, I have the supervised weight management requirement (3 months) with insurance. I originally made an appointment with the dietician my surgeon's office deals with but think they are just going to charge 2x the amount my regular pc would. It says I need monthly documentation of weight, current dietary program and physical activity- by either a licensed physician or registered dietician. Has anyone else just gone through their regular doctor for that piece? I need to get a letter of medical necessity from her anyway- but I'm nervous about somehow messing it up and having to start over again.

    Cigna

Hi there.. I'm brand new here and just starting on my weight loss journey. I have my initial consult August 11th. I'm a little nervous about being deemed not a good candidate for surgery. The first reason being that I had a child in October. It may sound silly, but I don't know if there is a specific time that has to pass after childbirth (c section) before you can be considered. Also I'm scared that my history of extreme yoyo dieting will negatively affect me as a candidate. I've lost, and gained, 100-120 pounds about 4 times (I'm 34). I've gotten down into my 150's through starvation and extreme exercising but then over the next few years it comes back. I have Cigna insurance, who is also my employer, and I don't THINK they require the past weight history anymore. But I'm nervous regarding my circumstances. Does anyone else have the same yoyo history or concerns?
