Serious Question. How is WLS the "wrong way"?
Stevehud replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Cowgirljane- youve always ben an inspiration, to me and im sure to others. Im sorry your family sees things that way. Personally t took both my parents dying and two of my siblings becoming estranged for me to get close enough to my oldest sister who Has MS and was always the biggest one in the family until i took that over. She has since lost a majority of her weight due to her meds and procedures relating to her MS. My family never talked about weight, my mother was big then she lost 150 pounds on jenny Craig and slowly put it back on. she was 5'6" when i was born and when she died at 67 years old she was 4'9" she lost a full 7 inches due to arthritis and degenerative joint disease. My dad died 4 years later , he committed suicide by swallowing a bullet because he couldn't deal with the future and his health. These things made a difference to me in what i had to d to not wind up old and fat. Sometimes people dont see the things that are right in front of them until its too late. No matter how close it may be. -
Let your voices be heard!

While i understand your point Lipstick Lady, i truly do. In some cases rational discourse is not the most effective method of conveying a point. In some cases a scathing furious diatribe can elicit the appropriate response while being cathartic to the person using it. Sometimes fire and brimstone will do more to hold the attention of the reader more so than a well written argument. I want these people to understand I m not upset, or mad, I am downright disgusted and furious, and I want that barely contained fury towards this man and his ridiculous statements, and I want them to know it. -

If we could teach people what really goes on, not just the struggle but the successes that many of you have had, maybe they would learn the truth. But then again, i often underestimate the power of stupid people in groups, so theyd probably learn nothing. -
if you go with muscle milk, use muscle milk light, regular muscle milk is loaded with sugar and carbs. try the Syntrax packets that way you can sample several flavors. heres my rule of thumb if its vanilla chocolate or strawberry creme, use lowfat or skim milk, if its a fruit flavor then use Water. also you can see my video taste tests of many flavors and varieties on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com

yeah, seriously dieting to gain weigh is like shooting yourself with a bow and arrow, not likely to happen. If you wantthe no fail weight gain? drink a few full flavored beers especially darks. those will get you there in no time ohand to help those go down, try Fettuccini alfredo. youll get there in no time. -
during the football playoff two weesk back, thee was food a plenty, and my one indulgence was half a handful of dorito crumbs. lol bad bad me. the worst part was my wife had a guft certificate to a bakery so we bought and brought over a cake. which everyone just gushed and drolled over, and i sat quietly wanting to secretly murder everyone and eat the cake lol I resisted. thankfuly i did bring some pepperoni, which is my go to snack if i must snack at all. but like you i had some cocktail meatballs. maybe ill make a pot of chili for the superbowl..that might just work, or at least ill bring my hummus and low carb wheat pita. lol

Feeling weak... need motivation... :)
Stevehud replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
get a hobby that keeps you busy, i have found that if I am focused on something I am so less likely to graze. I seem to be the prototypical bored eater. its easy at work, we have nothing but healthy stuff that i can't have any way or just don't like. but at home i can graze on things i dont need, evn some pepperoni which is ok for you, i dont want to risk stretching my sleeve by constantly grazing, which ive been told is exactly how you stretch it. i started building some models in my spare time, and took up guitar lessons, so when i get the urge i start practicing to avoid the mindset of the need for food. -
Protein Suggestions
Stevehud replied to GingerLeAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
syntrax nectars for me fuzzy navel and cappuccino, especially but the twisted cherry, lemonade iced tea, and grapefruit are great as well. I do have to say that carbs are not the only way to fuel your brain. Ill hold my tongue on the rest of the carb debate. Needless to say carbs are the enemy along with sugar. They raise your triglycerides and cause higher blood sugar and insulin levels resulting in altering the metabolism to store fat instead of burning it. Scientific medical fact there. The brain runs on glucose BUT not only glucose it also runs on Ketones, the brain itself has small ketone factories to supply the neurons with fuel. Now since we get glucose not just from carbs but also from stored fats, the obese person needs no extra carbs to cover the 30 grams or less of glucose needed over the ketone production , and by the way you can get it more effectively and without any blood sugar spike in two tablespoons of coconut oil daily. So carbs are not needed. for the person losing weight. Now if your already thin and trying to put on weight like muscle mass and bulk, carbs are perfect! -

Help ..I cant loose the last 4 pounds needed to be approved
Stevehud replied to listic2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i did the easiest diet i ever tried pre op, and lost 30 pounds in 1.5 months. its the simplest diet ever, Breakfast is a Protein shake, lunch is a Protein Shake ( not slim fast or special k or atkins those are loaded with sugar, sugar free Protein shakes only please.) then for dinner a big salad with oil and vinegar based dressing ( i like the mix it yourself packets) with protein in it like a chicken breast chopped up and a hard boiled egg sliced in it. do that for a week without fail you will lose. No matter what you choose, you can do it! -
Best tasting protein shakes?
Stevehud replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ill dissent premier tastes like butt to me. no ready made shake tastes good to me they al taste like medical waste. I personally like the Syntrax flavors the best and the abouttime fill shake and go products, but again to each his or her own. If you like I do video taste tests of many flavors and products on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com I am in the process of moving them to Youtube but until then they are on the blog, just go back to the begining you see them spread into each entry, no reading necessary -
Bi-Polar Disorder, does Gastric Sleeve help at all?
Stevehud replied to pinkbunies's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Personally I would think that any doc who would perform a gastric sleeve for a 50 pound loss on a guy as tall as you would be medically irresponsible if not downright negligent. -
Fat People programs
Stevehud replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll be open, i used to be very much into fighting for the rights of obese people, whether the topic was airline seats ( having to buy 2 etc) or public transportation, or discrimination etc. But I became aware that the reason I was so indignant was due to my own size, not due to a profound need for equality. Trust me that is a big self-realization. To the point I actually have rebounded to the other side of the pendulum. Now im stll obese but I'm working at it with the help of my sleeve and you al here and friends, family, coworkers etc. But, I bounced back so far to the point that on facebook they had an article on this plus sized model getting a modeling contract, Tess something. ( i had never heard of her until that article) but i noticed a lot of obese people saying, way to go! or how wonderful etc. I chimed in ( as you all know I would;-) and said how unhealthy the lifestyle is. After I posted it I had to realize just how different of a mindset I have had to turn to, in order to get myself squared away, and how that mindset isnt just changing my eating lifestyle, it affects your entire being. I understand now how some people who have gone through this journey I am on, have become, for lack of a better word, a-holes. Nagging people about weight loss, or telling someone else how to lose, or how healthy they aren't etc. As a result watching these shows like my 600 pound life, really upsets me because it seems like for every person on the shows who cry about their weight, there is always a group of family etc that is just as big and in denial. ( i happened to turn to this show when they were doing a sleeve and at that exact moment when they were removing a woman stomach, and thought, "I wish i Hadn't seen that, lol) Let me ask, do any of you think or behave, post surgery, the way I have described myself. Do you think the physical changes coupled with the mental lifestyle changes truly change us not just in the ways of food, but in our overall perceptions and our personalities, in general? As to what kind of TV show I would watch regarding weight. I would like to see a show where each week they profile people going through the pre-op and operation, and post op struggles of what WLS really is. not just the here's how much i eat before and here's how pretty I am after. I'd love to show the world what we give up on a daily basis, show them how much we get to eat, show them the liquid diet, the puree stage, the honeymoon weight loss, and the difficulties of the stalls. Show them regular people working out at the regular gym, no special trainers, no celebrity interventions, no chefs. Just average guy and gal fighting to live and be healthy. That would get all my support and then some. What i don't want more than anything is another Dr Oz. telling everyone how 1001 different herbs supplements and newfound berry extract will solve what ails you. I know somewhere on the net was a guy who figured that if you took even half the supplements dr oz suggested you use on a daily basis, it would take you over three hours just to take them. lol. -
I need everyone's help and support please!
Stevehud replied to caren1027's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
im a couple days out more than you but the first thing I will say is, Dont eat the english muffin, its all carbs. so whether you can fit it or not, substitute it for something that isnt a waste of calories. Yes its tough, a lot tougher than I thought it would be, but it is doable. The people on here prove it day in and day out. ive lost 44 pounds in 39 days so far since surgery and if you count pre op diet ive lost 74 pounds in 2.5 months. You can do this. but you have to really want it AND work at it. Every day is a part of the struggle that makes up the journey towards the goal. You have to fight for this, because no one else can fight it for you. Draw your inspiration from where you can, friends loved ones, even people here. Heck set up a blog and start writing, even if no one reads it, it is extremely cathartic to let it all out. Im so sorry about your husband, I hope he is doing well. You can do this! We all can! -

Energy Level Poll of the recently sleeved
Stevehud replied to Swampdoggie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
for me it went away rather quickly maybe 5 or 6 days post op. I am 5 weeks out now and ive been hitting the gym 4 times a week since week three. But again everyone is different make sure your vitamins are being taken and you have enough b12 as well. Plus iron its very important for your sustained energy level. -
My… How the Focus Changes!
Stevehud replied to Connie Stapleton PhD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
There is an even worse after effect sometimes. People become so caught up in the healthy lifestyle they forget they ever had a weight struggle to begin with and criticize the health and eating habits and weight of others. They become what they themselves decried prior to their weight loss. -
Protein powder WITHOUT sucralose/splenda?
Stevehud replied to losing_the_band's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
there are many theres a whole set by abouttime, yes its one word, that use stevia, -
I just got a misfit shine its not just a tracker it does sleep tracking and pedometer, but I do it as a positive reminder to myself to go to the gym , and heck its a cool looking watch or pendant if you want, as well. so why not? I don't believe in calories in out or any other just in weight loss. I simplfy things don't eatthe bad stuff measure the food I do take in and exercise and you increase or decrease as needed to achieve the goal you want. Simple right? lol simple yes,...easy? No lol. But I do love this thing. And anything that helps you lose or helps you get to the gym ( I wear it on my sneaker laces when I use the stationary bike. Is excellent.
