  1. seriously man, im 8 weeks out and i havent come close to bread, well once a week i may have a whole grain flax seed small pita it is only 7 carbs and quite small and thin, but thats the closest to bread ive had. sandwiches are long gone my friend, someday perhaps but not for a long time yet, bread expands once it hits your stomach making it very hard to sit well. also if you eat too fast like if that sandwich took you less than 1/2 hour minimum to eat id throw it up as well. subs are the past there are no healthy subs in the future. Jared and subway aint gonna help . There is an app for eating slower if you want to use a timer thats fine too. im betting youre eating the wrong things and eating those wayy too fast. Oh and by Decent meal, if you mean food you used to eat, or restaurant food etc. consider it gone. unless you just want to throw away the surgery then just eat a lot more often youll get right back to where you started. sorry but if you went into this thinking it was a temporary thing, I hate to break it to you. Talk to the Veterans here, listen to how they have to eat and workout just to maintain. this is a lifetime voyage, not a day trip. Good luck to you sir. You Can Do This!

    What Love Is Not

I remember back in high school, back before time began it seems, lol There was a visitor who did an assembly about teenage attachments, and one of the only things that stuck with me, is he talked about conditional love. Specifically the words, I love you if, I love you but, and I love you When. It was a great way to let people know that these three phrases all equate to something much different than love. Just something I thought I would share.

    Emailing Boss before Approval

i worked with my boss and co workers to be sure everything was great, I am lucky like some, where my workplace has been behind me 110%, but I can understand those who dont want anyone to know. Thier choice. But i let my job know after my first visit to the doc that it was possible and 2 months after that, i was out. thankfully i had them prepared because i literally got the call of approval on a Friday afternoon for surgery 4 days later lol.

    Intense morning nausea

Nausea can also be caused by and prolonged by dehydration, you may have to up your liquid intake, especially Water.
  6. You said " I didn't have this surgery to drink Protein shakes and eat chicken, or basically low carb for the rest of my life!! " Seriously?? did you not know that is exactly what you will be doing for the rest of your life? This isnt a temporary fix where you do some dieting then go back to regular eating and all is well. You are going to have to change your lifestyle and eating habits forever or all this is nothing. I am a bit surprised you don't realize this. Maybe it's just a rant and I am reading into it, but if not, you need to reevaluate what you want out of this and what your willing to do to get it. You Can Do This!
  7. Stalls are common as everyone says, heartbreaking to a degree as well. But its still probable that your body is changing to a more fit, more muscular you. I am a big proponent of the measurement effect. that is i measured most parts of my body ( don't go there...) prior to surgery and if I get discouraged I will check those measurements to see the actual changes in writing. Sometimes we associate all changes with the scale, rather than the actual physical changes taking place. It is important to remember this. There's lots of advice, some say to eat more to break a stall, others say that jumping back on liquids only for two days will help to break a stall. Its important to do what everyone here has already said, stick to your plan, keep up the good work, and the results will follow. You Can Do This!

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

just as an FYI, i had nothing to do with exploding this post..it was not my fault... this time.

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

cheating is almost inevitable, kind of. i mean i cheated yesteday, in a way i had one m and M , now as opposed to having a whole bag etc. but i felt bad about it after. now in the grand sceme of weight loss is one solitary m and m going to matter? maybe not, but if i weaken for one m and m now wil i weaken for two later and then 5 etc until its back up to just one bag, etc. SO i suggest using all the strength you have to get at least one day under your belt with no cheating just so you know you can do it. It s one day at atime after all, if you can do one day then two is just stringing together two, of those one days. You Can Do This!
  11. there are radically different programs for all prior to surgery. Mine was thre visits with the doctor, 4 visits with the nutritionist, 2 visits with a psych specialist and my barium swallow, and cardiac stress test, plus bloodwork, and an ekg. i also had appointments at 2 weeks 6 weeks and next up in 3 months. so everyone is a bit different. Also sugar free Jello is your friend during liquids, and after too, it at least gives you the illusion of chewing. lol Goo dluck! You can do this!

    Day 3- hard time eating

food? this early? are you not on a liquid diet for awhile after surgery? Unless by food you mean yogurt o Protein shakes . I cannot imagine tring to actually eat something that soon, but thats me. calories arent important, fluids are most important, Your gut will rumble it is your stomach getting used to its new size, it feels a lot like severe hunger pains, bu its actually a combination of acid, inflammation and trauma. takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to calm that down. The diarrhea thing is common at first, was with me for the first month. taking in all fluids its very tough to make a solid out of. so just be sure to increase your Fluid intake appropriately.

    Protein Water

what kind of protein is it? does it say? remember it should be whey protein isolate. Thats and you can get a lot more protein from a lot less ounces if you wish, but as an adjunct, hey why not.
  16. What irked me was that one of my biggest goals, and the reason I have a blog, was to put it all together to create an ebook for men, on WLS, specifically the sleeve, and to be able to show from a man's perspective the hard truths about WLS. I wanted to do this so men won't take the same 3 to 4 or more years of waiting around to get what they need or to not do it at all and die prematurely or continue to live horribly. That one sentence uttered on a tv show, set back what I had hoped to accomplish by light years. Some know my anger boiled over and in a very inarticulate way, I let the show know how I felt. The worst part was reading posts from other overweight people who are attracted to the show like moths to a flame, and even in many cases repeated what the "doctor" had said while begging to be helped with their weight loss and obvious co-morbidities. Once people see it on television they become almost armored against the real facts. Once that first impression is made, it becomes a battle of incalculable proportions to change that perception. That's the real loss to the WLS community. Also I do wish more celebs who had this surgery would have stood up and decried this statement as malicious and untrue. While i do commend Rosie O'Donnell for having an open dialog about WLS, Iw would've been nice to see a press statement speaking about this issue as well. People Like Rosie, Al Roker, or Magic Johnson, etc. all have a forum in which they could advance the knowledge we have, to the general public, but no one stepped up to take their turn at bat, and as a result we all struck out mightily.

    It's the STRAW!

its not just gas, putting extra air into your sleeve stretches the sleeve, which is something you dont want to do. now you know why the straw helps you so much the air makes more room in your sleeve so the liquid goes in easier. there are people who use straws in the maintenance stages etc, but early on, its kind of a bad thing to get your liquids at the expense of why you had the surgery. But that is simply what I have in my guidelines from my surgical team. , " Use of a straw or drinking device (i.e. sipping cup) can cause secondary air buildup, resulting in stretching or over-sizing of the surgical sleeve." Early Stretching of the surgical sleeve will result in reduced weight loss and a lower hunger tolerance." That's the exact quote off the page. Good luck with everything. We can do it!

    Misfit Shine Review

Okay so after a month or so we got together with my in laws about a week ago to do Christmas. Due to my surgery being just before Christmas and then they had the flu etc so we had delayed it since they are in Connecticut and we are in Massachusetts. So, they got me the misfit shine. Well for those who dont know it is a fitness and activity tracker that wirelessly syncs to your phone. It doesn't require any charging or cables to connect to anything. It comes with two ways to wear it. One is like a watch and it looks like a watch sort of. It also tells time, if you tap it twice it shows lights that mimic the hands on a clock. Which is nice. It also tracks your activity including just general walking. The best things I have found so far is its waterproof so you can wear it while swimming etc. And you can set it up with your phone to measure swimming since the action differs from walking or running. You can also have it track, basketball, soccer, running and cycling. The second way to wear this is a rubber band like clip that you can put anywhere, i put mine on my shoelaces ( it weighs less than an ounce) for when i use the bike at the gym and it tracks my cycling. It also has sleep tracking. The app it comes with keeps all your data and it lets you set daily goals for walking or exercise etc, and it ha a direct link to my fitness pal and other sites so you can have it send right to your account. You can also set the same goals as your friends on the appp and see who can get more points than the pther if you want that competitive thing. Now also i have seen on ebay they make other ways to wear this including a really nice looking necklace and a real watch band etc. All in all I have to say I am impressed with it and while I dont know how much I would rely on one, this thing add a bit of fun to an otherwise semi monotonous task. Easiest part is it automatically dumps info to your phone, or you can just open the app tap the screen and bang, info syncs right up. I give it a 9 out of 10 because nothing is perfect.

    pictures help

for me pictures work also. but what is even more helpful is putting on clothes that are too big now. for example my wife has a picture of me when I went back to school 2 years ago. at graduation I weighed 408 pounds. I was wearing this lightweight tan suit, and I thought I looked good in it, but I put on the suit jacket the other day and my god, it was like wearing a toga, I was sooo happy. its nice to physical compare yourself against you own body image to see the changes...if that makes sense.

    Cholesterol and US Nutrition Guidelines

Well it doesn't really say cholesterol doesn't matter it just says that cholesterol is primarily genetic and that external sources don't really change cholesterol that much. That being said people with high cholesterol are probably that way for reasons they cannot control. Which makes a lot more sense. But I do love the obese health food story. I know people like that as well, a friend who wont eat anything unless its bought at a health food store. When I told her about gluten free products actually are not regulated yet in this country or how free range doesn't really mean what people think it means or how organic is a label that in many cases just means the farm does one thing organic, but can still use pesticides , etc. they just ignored it all. Organic oreos are still oreos. I do think about the milk thing, I don't blame milk at all for obesity think people report drinking milk and we equate that as being fattening, but who do you know just drinks milk, all by itself. everyone I know ( myself including) has milk with some Cookies, or a brownie or some little debbies or tastycakes or hostess or drakes cakes, or pie or cheesecake or whatever. That's why I think milk gets its bad rap. Just a thought.

    December sleevers

angiwii-how fast are you eating. I had the same problem and I thought I was eating slow then I timed myself and I really wasn't slow enough. if it doesn't take you 25 minutes to 30 minutes to eat, and mean actual eating not just putting it in front of you , you are eating too fast. I would suggest using your phone and downloading a free timer app and set the timer so you take a bite every few minutes and not before, after awhile you will get used to eating this slowly and not need the timer, it really helped me.
