Artificial sugar vs real sugar
Stevehud replied to changes1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Project me, she does lie she is lying outright when she says artificial sweeteners cause cancer. I posted proof that she is lying. If you seriously believe she is conducting experiments on humans without any medical training whatsoever Then I dont know what to say. She says sugar doesn't increase a diabetic's blood sugar, which is an outright lie, and im sure you know that having a son who is diabetic. She says she knows more than paramedics do, expect she says they are the same as emt but give a few meds. which is false, ive done tracheotomies, ive delivered babies, and so much more but this "lady" says no, , we can scope for choking, we defib, and much more. She says people tell her she should be a doctor and she compares herself to one. She is a secretary in the er and acts like she is the er doc. she says her doctor approves of her doing unlicensed untrained and unprofessional studies on humans. and that their own doctors said it was ok ( which would get their license revoked by the way) so everything she said is a lie, and the word fat never scares me, to me Fat is a descriptive word, it is not the same as obese, nor is it the same as overweight. Im sorry you dont like the word, truly I am but it fits this person to a T. -
Can not do my surgery because my sugar is too high :(
Stevehud replied to esingso2005's topic in Rants & Raves
remember many vegetables have high natural sugar content as well especially many Beans, corn, beets, carrots tomatoes, etc try sticking to green beans, cauliflower, asparagus, and some greens, that may help. -
Fiber, all those fruits are very high in fiber and fiber tens to expand once in the stomach, they can definitely lead to discomfort. for me, i can eat apple slices with no skins, ( skins upset my stomach, but they always did) and i buy the little kid packs of peeled sliced apples, that's enough of them to fill me totally and its like 4 or 5 slices. so i feel where you're coming from.

well by being behind you she would have to admit you have a problem and i guarantee you that admitting you have a problem makes her feel like she has failed as your mom. parents do not want to see their kids as anything but wonderful, and if they admit you have a problem that youve had since you were a child, they have to take blame in that and they won't do it. My dad was a food hoarder, he was legally blind and resented that he couldn't work to provide for us so my mom worked ( no big deal nowadays but back then ) anyway, he would guard food under lock and key and you could only eat at mealtimes, but he would eat Cookies and bake a cake and eat half or more of it himself and hide it from other people. as a result we came to regard food as treasure and the only comforting thing. my mom was obese i was/am, my sister was, etc. my dad refused to believe he had anything to do with it, and refused to believe any of us were obese for any reason because he would have to admit his ways were wrong. So i do wonder if your mom might feel like she has failed you if she admits you need help. Denial is a very powerful beast indeed. I wish you well. You Can Do This!

Submitted my claim to insurance and now I'm rethinking this whole thing...
Stevehud replied to Vad1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
everyone goes through the"do i really want to give up my big mac, or five guys or whatever" stage. thats why you have psych consults, you have to work ay getting past food as a comfort inducing thing and get to it as a life thing, to make the transition from eat to live instead of live to eat, is a terribly hard emotional journey. But i can say this, you CAN do it. After almost al my posts you will see me post that "You Can Do This! " tag its just my way of reinforcing the fact that we can all accomplish this if we truly want it and give our all to it. I know deep inside you can do it if you set your mind and body to it. The results are indescribable . I am two months post op and between my preop and surgery i am getting very close to losing my first hundred pounds. and i had my surgery on December 16th . Im not saying youll get these results but yesterday i went to the gym, I used to walk with two canes, one in a bag folded up just in case i had to stand for more than 10 minutes, and one i used just to walk. Now yesterday i rode 5 miles on the exercise bike, then went and did 1/2 hour circuit training, then i went and walked through three stores , i walked a total of almost 2 miles, no cane, n almost no discomfort at all. i went from a 5xl shirt to currently a 2x and from 4xl pants to an XL. what you can accomplish is all up to you, but deep down if you want it, you can get it of that there is no doubt. and we will be here to help , the people here are very good at helping you keep going. You Can Do This! -
8 weeks since surgery and I think I am flunking this test!
Stevehud replied to erenee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
you can always check with your surgeon if you are worried. I wil be honest doing a cup or more of food is certainly not doable by me, by any means. in a whole day sure, but not in one sitting. not by a long shot. i know im not being much help. but certainly bring it to your doctors attention. -

I'd like to apologize for men everyone, since I am one. But so many of us are evidently complete buttholes. I cannot imagine the situations lot of people on here have been put in by their male spouses. It is disheartening to see how badly many of you have been or are being treated. If I could apologize for all men I would. All I can say is none of you deserve to be mistreated like that and i truly wish you all well. I hope it all works out. -
Artificial sugar vs real sugar
Stevehud replied to changes1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
by the way for the liars out there , this is from the National Cancer Institute. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/causes-prevention/risk-factors/diet/artificial-sweeteners-fact-sheet Is there an association between artificial sweeteners and cancer? Questions about artificial sweeteners and cancer arose when early studies showed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin caused bladder cancer in laboratory animals. However, results from subsequent carcinogenicity studies (studies that examine whether a substance can cause cancer) of these sweeteners have not provided clear evidence of an association with cancer in humans. Similarly, studies of other FDA-approved sweeteners have not demonstrated clear evidence of an association with cancer in humans. What have studies shown about a possible association between specific artificial sweeteners and cancer? Saccharin Studies in laboratory rats during the early 1970s linked saccharin with the development of bladder cancer. For this reason, Congress mandated that further studies of saccharin be performed and required that all food containing saccharin bear the following warning label: “Use of this product may be hazardous to your health. This product contains saccharin, which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals.” Subsequent studies in rats showed an increased incidence of urinary bladder cancer at highdoses of saccharin, especially in male rats. However, mechanistic studies (studies that examine how a substance works in the body) have shown that these results apply only to rats. Humanepidemiology studies (studies of patterns, causes, and control of diseases in groups of people) have shown no consistent evidence that saccharin is associated with bladder cancer incidence. Because the bladder tumors seen in rats are due to a mechanism not relevant to humans and because there is no clear evidence that saccharin causes cancer in humans, saccharin was delisted in 2000 from the U.S. National Toxicology Program’s Report on Carcinogens, where it had been listed since 1981 as a substance reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen (a substance known to cause cancer). More information about the delisting of saccharin is available at http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/eleventh/append/appb.pdf on the Internet. The delisting led to legislation, which was signed into law on December 21, 2000, repealing the warning label requirement for products containing saccharin. Aspartame Aspartame, distributed under several trade names (e.g., NutraSweet® and Equal®), was approved in 1981 by the FDA after numerous tests showed that it did not cause cancer or otheradverse effects in laboratory animals. Questions regarding the safety of aspartame were renewed by a 1996 report suggesting that an increase in the number of people with brain tumors between 1975 and 1992 might be associated with the introduction and use of this sweetener in the United States. However, an analysis of then-current NCI statistics showed that the overall incidence of brain and central nervous system cancers began to rise in 1973, 8 years prior to the approval of aspartame, and continued to rise until 1985. Moreover, increases in overall brain cancer incidence occurred primarily in people age 70 and older, a group that was not exposed to the highest doses of aspartame since its introduction. These data do not establish a clear link between the consumption of aspartame and the development of brain tumors. In 2005, a laboratory study found more lymphomas and leukemias in rats fed very high doses of aspartame (equivalent to drinking 8 to 2,083 cans of diet soda daily) (1). However, there were some inconsistencies in the findings. For example, the number of cancer cases did not rise with increasing amounts of aspartame as would be expected. An FDA statement on this study can be found athttp://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/2006/ucm108650.htm on the Internet. Subsequently, NCI examined human data from the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study of over half a million retirees. Increasing consumption of aspartame-containing beverages was not associated with the development of lymphoma, leukemia, or brain cancer (2). Acesulfame potassium, Sucralose, and Neotame In addition to saccharin and aspartame, three other artificial sweeteners are currently permitted for use in food in the United States: Before approving these sweeteners, the FDA reviewed more than 100 safety studies that were conducted on each sweetener, including studies to assess cancer risk. The results of these studies showed no evidence that these sweeteners cause cancer or pose any other threat to human health. Cyclamate Because the findings in rats suggested that cyclamate might increase the risk of bladder cancer in humans, the FDA banned the use of cyclamate in 1969. After reexamination of cyclamate’s carcinogenicity and the evaluation of additional data, scientists concluded that cyclamate was not a carcinogen or a co-carcinogen (a substance that enhances the effect of a cancer-causing substance). A food additive petition was filed with the FDA for the reapproval of cyclamate, but this petition is currently being held in abeyance (not actively being considered). The FDA’s concerns about cyclamate are not cancer related. Acesulfame potassium (also known as ACK, Sweet One®, and Sunett®) was approved by the FDA in 1988 for use in specific food and beverage categories, and was later approved as a general purpose sweetener (except in meat and poultry) in 2002. Sucralose (also known as Splenda®) was approved by the FDA as a tabletop sweetener in 1998, followed by approval as a general purpose sweetener in 1999. Neotame, which is similar to aspartame, was approved by the FDA as a general purpose sweetener (except in meat and poultry) in 2002. hmm guess she is lying. -

this happens to be the single mos disgusting thread ive ever read on a forum, human test subjects. Oh but some people think i should be a doctor. Yes and some ( me) think you should be locked away. You make my blood boil with how irresponsible you are. it angers me to no end. Taurus can you give me the name of your surgeon please id like to verify the veracity of your statements and ask about your so called study and that he approves of them. I dare you to provide the information to back up your "Stories" because it is amazing that someone who knows so much about being healthy since 2006 is so obese they had to get help from surgery I mean if you knew so much and knew all these secrets why are you fat? oops i used the F word. Dont worry i did a study on it! -
Artificial sugar vs real sugar
Stevehud replied to changes1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
heres a simple thought so many fat people seem to know so much about being healthy yet cant get healthy themselves, so its do as i say not as I do because i tested 1 person who had diabetes, so therefore i know the truth. When i ask you what studies show artificial sweeteners not taken in tremendous bulk directly injected into lab mice has ever shown a correlation in humans. besides saccharin, and you cannot do it, because there are NONE but you say your surgeon is researching it. which is also amazing that a surgeon would be doing research not related to ther field of surgery. To me, youre lying over and over and what you are lying about is libelous and negligent. Then you want to attack paramedics by saying they know nothing but can give a few meds. Now i know maam you are so full of BS that you must have dark brown eyes. You are irresponsible, fraudulent and repulsive in your ideas. Project ME, you research diabetes, you dont experiment on your son, thats what this lady supposedly ( i dont believe she knows what a research study actually is since she had no control group, no study plan, no baseline of findings, no medical reports. but hey shes a whack job so whatever) see if you told us you feed different foods to your son then stick him right after to se what his blood sugar is, and do this over and over to test medical facts, id say you were an unfit parent but you dont, you monitor your son and looks for ways to make his health better. there's the difference. This idiot lady says that sugar doesn't make your blood sugar go up. um if anyone knows of anyone with diabetes like your son project me, you all know this is the height of BS ive had family members die from diabetes who never were alive to injest a single artificial sweetener. bt hey dont let facts get in the way of irresponsibility. Nothing is worse than an idiot armed with a little false knowledge. Here is the basic facts, when you go against established medical facts its not inventing or any such thing, hurt yourself, you can only blame yourself too bad so sad a darwin award goes your way. but when you promote it as fact to others you are disseminating lies to others in a medical context which as I said legally is libelous and can get you charged in a court of law. i can point out case after case of supporting case law to back that up. So because this lady works with paramedics she says she KNOWS what they know , see shes a secretary who thinks she knows more than the doctors do. Amazing. to be honest i would push to have her removed from this sight for promoting dangerous materials, but i assumes that he is such an idiot no one would listen, but just like the 9 eleven theory nuts and alien supporters, there's always a few nuts to cling on to their BS. -

Taurus lady, and I say this with all intent and truth, . you are the worst kind of irresponsible. If I had my way you would be up on charges for practicing medicine without a license. It is amazing how many obese people become dr oz after a little bit of knowledge. your line that a diabetic eats sugar and had normal blood sugar levels is stupid. when was their last insulin dose? how much was it? what is their baseline sugar? were they type 1 or type 2? what other meds did they take? what else did they eat or drink? what other factors may disqualify them as a research subject? I worked for a heart surgeon who helped develop transplant procedures still in use today, typing up and coordinating research papers, heck its half the reason I became a paramedic. Your information is GARBAGE. and you should be kicked off of the forums for it. Whats your next irresponsible informational post? GMO's aliens, pyramid power? chakra healing? reiki healing? secret government consipracies? -
Artificial sugar vs real sugar
Stevehud replied to changes1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep reading this thread and saying im not going to get involved, but man, all I can say is, some people need to stop trying to "sell" their brand of BS on here its really irresponsible. By the way it could very well be construed as criminally negligent, and very libelous. -

let me ask you this ( loose skin related)
Stevehud posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So im 2 months out now and ive done well, to be honest the weight loss is better than I hoped. BUT one thing is that I know im going to have skin issues. now in my lower belly its like the fat has separated and sunk, so that its now lower on my body, i have that fat flap that hangs down just to over my pubic bone. now i wash under ther every day and use a gold bond type powder to keep it dry tc but every now and then i still get an itch and what i think maybe the start of a rash, but ive been lucky enough to keeep ahead of it. So let me ask if anyone else dealing with skin issues, etc do you have any advice for care, thought maybe using a creme of some kind for a baby perhaps or should i just go with the powder thing etc. any ideas or thoughts? -

Intermittent Weight loss, How do you handle it?
Stevehud posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, i weigh myself each morning, same time, on the same scale in the same place etc. in the very early going it was amazing to see the weight loss, 1 1/2 to 2 pounds per day it seemed. now after losing 85+ i have noticed that of course it slows down, but ill notice than for two days ill stall then ill lose 2 pounds of the next 3 days then stall for 2 days, etc. this seems to almost be a pattern, and this is with my diet and exercise staying he exact same, no cheating or extra sugars or carbs etc. My question is, that on those mornings when the scale is just not going to move, how do you handle the feeling f "what did i do wrong, why didn't i lose today) etc.? Perhaps i should start weighing only bi-weekly or weekly even. So i guess my questions are really twofold. 1. How do you get past those feelings of anger/ depressed/annoyance etc of not losing each day? 2. Is it better to weight weekly at this point , I do worry than by not weighing in daily I may miss some key piece of information that i need to keep my weight loss moving forward.? I was thinking about writing a piece of fiction about a handsome yet obese man who seduces his young and naive secretary after he has sleeve surgery, Im going to call it, 50 Grams Of Carbs. LOL -
Did your shoe size change after weight loss surgery?

Stevehud replied to snarkychef's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
as a guy we have it easier, i wear sweats on weekends and workout type athletic pants ( yay elastic) can get em pretty cheap, im down to an XL from a 4xl now so i tend to wait until im swimming in them. -
umm you really cannot palpate ( feel) your spleen like that it has no sensation nerves in it as well, it would have to be severely inflamed before you would notice it physically, and that would be you screaming in pain if it was that big.

Husband is so negative about my Weight Loss Surgery :(
Stevehud replied to Totoro's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
as a man ill say this, it sounds like he just isn't ready, ready for what I call the one, two punch, 1 is when you look in the mirror ( figuratively) and say I am too fat and need to lose or else. 2. is when you finally realize that as macho as you are, as self sufficient as you think yourself to be, you cannot do it by yourself and need help. If he hasnt reached these conclusions on his own, deep down inside, then you losing weight is going to make him jealous and combative, but he wont express his jealousy like, "hey im so jealous youre doing great," it will just be anger and contempt. That one two punch has to happen, you can help it along, but fighting it will only make it worse.
