    Guess What?!

You can and will do great. Have no doubt.
  2. I find that I have very little leeway in my "program" although the nutritionist has allowed me more carbs , I don't even touch them if I can help it, I literally maybe once a week will have like a tablespoon of mashed potatoes, or maybe a third of a piece of toast that's about it or one morning I may have 1/4 cup of cheerios for Breakfast, with 1/4 cup of 1% milk. but I haven't done that for about two weeks now, its kind of a oh gosh im going to be late for work kind of thing. but then I have to supplement the Protein. I will say I have a weird weight loss. I go three days a week in a row with no discernible loss then will have 3 or 4 days where I lose 4/5 of a pound and wind up with a 4 to 5 pound loss in the week. But as long as the weight goes down in the end im happy.
  3. its been tough to keep it up this winter ( no get your head out of the gutter :-) ) im just south of boston in Weymouth. With so much snow still on the ground ( you know its bad when after all this time you still have 2 feet minimum on the ground and still 8 to 10 feet piles in other places too. Youll get past it all, you certainly have the right attitude. Keep it up someday we will see spring and with spring, new hopes for the future. lol
  4. Your body can absorb more than 20grams of protein per hour , 40 grams in your sleeve at one time is about the maximum it everyone's body absorbs differently when I need to I use a scoop and a half of syntrax products with 5 Olof 1%milk or water and I get 38 to 39 grams of protein per and it has worked great so far all my labs are great no hair loss no side effects , so be careful using not true facts please
  5. You CANNOT Stretch your stomach back out again, it CANNOT happen. they remove the fundus, which is the elastic part of the stomach so you have very little stretch left, that's why the sleeve is not a temporary fix its a lifetime decision. There was a link to great article by a surgeon about this ill see if i can find it. now i should qualify that stretching statement by saying your stomach will never stretch to near where it once was, it will stretch somewhat from surgical size, but nowhere near to the size a normal stomach would. hERE READ THIS: ( THANK YOU TO jAMIE FOR THE LINK) http://tinyurl.com/qxchkcv

    Calcium-Free Protein

your only choice would be a non whey based Protein, which i know nothing about. but they do make hemp protein, and plant protein etc mixes, vegan mixes would work, but 6 hours?? , that seems a bit long, i take my Vitamin with Iron 1 hour after my morning meal, then 2 hours later i have an chewable calcium and i have my Protein shake and that is at m nutrition and surgeons schedule,. my numbers are all nice and high. But to each surgeon their own. Everyone's surgeon has different guidelines.

    3 days post op starving!

the grumbling is dual cause one from acid and two just from the new stomach getting used to itself i guarantee the hunger is really in your head, its the hard part to beat you have to think about why youre doing this and let that be your guide.
  8. you should always qualify the Muscle weighs more than fat , by adding, By Volume to it, because otherwise its not really true a pound of muscle is the same as a pound of fat or a pound of feathers, but the same volume of muscle weighs more than fat . I know im nitpicking. lol
  9. dont measure yourself against anyone else, it will only upset you or them. everyone is different, and thats a fact. youve done great things, if anyone worries about thier weight loss, we all know exactly what we eat and how much we exercise, so everyone knows if we arent doing what we should, or if we are on a slow and steady path to thindom. ( yes i know its not a word)

    Pre op worries

eventually you will be able to eat whatever you like to a degree, yont be able to eat as muchby a lot. what you have to do is adapt, you need to find things that replace food, and alcohol, can you go drink 12 beers and get trashed? no, good luck getting one beer in, unlesss you nurse it and since most beers have a huge amount of carbs and sugar and calories you really wouldnt want to. SO what about hard alcohol, well with a smaller stomach alcohol is moving into your intestines faster than normally which means it hits your bloodstream a LOT faster and harder, I have heard it said sleevers absorb alcohol into the blood at a rate 5 to 7 times faster than a non sleever would. Even more so for a bypass patient. so you have to be careful i did a half shot during the superbowl, and really felt it, and not only did i feel it, it also put me in a stall for 4 days, so i dont advise it. besides be the sober one , its easily worth the weight loss.i wish i had done it in my twenties id trade drunkenness for being thin and not being the fat one in the group anyday.
  11. 12. i think you showed great composure and confidence to not put the ignorant dork in his place. I would love to have said, " look, I know you have a small penis, but dont try to overcompensate by being a dick." but yeah you cant really do that at the office. Well you could probably do it once... lol Keep at it man.

    Sleeve size?

use Jamies link its very helpful, its nice to be able to say hey my stomach is the size of a highlighter marker. its easier to visualize that way.

    Food amounts

how fast are you eating and how much are you chewing. these are huge parts of your new eating habits, chew chew chew, like youre a train, and be sure to eat slower, eating fast will make it seem like you are full, but its because you are jamming the sleeve up , there are apps to help you time your bites, i recommend them.

    Is my NUT nuts?

he is close but confusing a few things i think. i do have a problem with fruit skins, for sure. the Protein kidney thing is somewhat true but only if you eat well in excess of 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily. 1.5 grams per pound is what athletes and body builder types eat , we should be around .5 grams per pound at optimal levels. But my advice is just that, advice. Every Nutritionist has Vitamins they like, and mine likes the Centrum chewables with Iron. cheap and effective, The 20 minute thing is impossible, not just impractical, after a certain amount of time, you cant break down food anymore without digesting it, I would defy anyone to chew food for that long.

    100 Down...107.7 to Go!

absolutely awesome! congrats! keep up the great work.
  17. @@Elizabeth21 thank you Elizabeth.
  18. i know i will need a panniculectomy but i went into this knowing I would and knowing tha id take some loose skin as a side effect to really feeling good and being able to function at a level i haven't in many years. im almost 3 months out and my belly has shrunk, bt it also has fallen, so it hangs down lower than before, but trust me ill take that any day, the health implications are so drastic already its amazing. heres a quick example last night after riding the stationary bike for 30 minutes and 7 miles my heart rate was at 131 bpm. just 4 months ago at my stress test, after 8 minutes i had to stop and my heart rate was over 162 bpm. Thats how much stress i have removed from my heart. you cant compare that to some loose skin.

    Does your sleeve tolerate xylitol?

well sugar alcohols, i.e. malitol, xylitol, sorbitol, all have a natural laxative effect and as such i have found it does not take much to, umm get things flowing, if ya get my meaning. some of the funniest reading you can ever do is to look up the forums online for sugar-free gummy bears. i guarantee you cannot help but laugh out loud at the stories. And by the way do not eat the sugar-free gummy bears...you have been warned.
  20. yeah i use 5oz of 1% or skim milk with my (sweet.i.e. chocolate strawberry vanilla, cappuccino) shakes and Water for my fruit flavored types. at my nutritionists request as well. while sleevers get some dumping we dont get dumping syndrome where you have long-term bouts of dumping unless you eat really wrong. i had it once and do not want that again.
  21. well, let me say this and im not being mean or saying anything about you personally. but, what you're going through is something you really would have been better off working out before you had the surgery. its kind of why we do the psych thing to help you get over food being a dependency. it sounds a lot like depression from kicking the food as comfort. talk to someone. now thats just my opinion, im not doctor, but heck talking to someone couldnt hurt.
  22. im so far doing well, averaging 35 pounds a month so far. i can tell you thi if i take in more than 10 to 12 grams of carbs in any form, in a day , that equals and instant stall and will take 3 days of strict adherence to get back on track.
  23. Im 44 and had my surgery 7 days before my 44th birthday. SO its not rare at all. Obesity affect so many, from all walks of life , races, creeds and ages. As surgery is more widely available ( not widely enough) we see a wider variety of ages.
  24. This is a touchy subject. Ill say this, do what you feel, not what anyone else says. Personally ive told everyone because I am proud of it, I want people to know what it is we go through, and I use the praise i get from family and friends to keep me motivated. Good luck to you! You Can Do This!
