Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
Stevehud replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
WOuld you buy Protein Crap in a Can? nope. well there ya go. That being said there are many protein mixes that taste like what they say they do, to a point. And many of us, have come to really enjoy our protein powders. I literally have a protein mugcake for Breakfast 6 out of every 7 days a week, I look forward to it, I really like the taste. -

Wow! I couldn't eat a steak or a burger if I tried. Certainly couldn't eat the bun, lettuce etc. Or fries. Definitely not a milkshake. And I can't eat more than two small, very small meals a day and fluids the rest of the time. My sleeve simply won't let me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

actually the five largest health insurers in the country all have waiting periods for bariatric surgery. ANd many employers simply have excluded bariatric surgeries from thier plans. Just an FYI. -

Suggestions for mushy foods.
Stevehud replied to atzvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
http://www.bariatricpal.com/videos/view-154-mugcake-recipe-video/ I have this for breakfast 6 out of 7 days a week. i love em. they're easy, very low on calories and sugar and almost no carbs as well. and they're not solid food, especially if you go with 45 to 50 seconds max on your microwave. but with a teaspoon of sugar free maple syrup on top or sugar free jam, its the closest you can get to a pancake or the like . You can get the matrix Protein powder at Vitamin shoppe's or amazon etc. even bariatric pals store i think carries it. I recommend the Cookies and cream as the best one to go with. -

TMI diarrhea post op
Stevehud replied to AudreyDarling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
immodium cannot cause you a bowel obstruction, lol , thats a good one. I hadnt heard that before. I am a ex paramedic of 11 years so take it for what you will. I also recommend the liquid imodium as you may be passing the pills before you get to absorb them. -
Don't like plain water anymore? Try Hint Water
Stevehud replied to Kooky1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
are you supposed to have carbonation? I know my surgeon was a definite no on that. -
be careful. as one person who has said that type of thing many times before, you dont want to go down that aisle. its not worth the flak youll take. You cant change other people. Doesnt matter what your intentions are.

yes its not real hunger, its acid in your system, we all go through it, but taking an anti acid really helps. good luck! keep up the good work!

Help nicotine test
Stevehud replied to Frenchie1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
id quit now, and go with lots of fluids, you need to flush your liver. nicotine stays in urine ( and hair but thats never checked) the longest, so flushing your liver from now till surgery shoudl make it fine, but definitely inform your surgeon. Dont hide anything, trust me they are used to it. you can also try a liver cleanse although i think they are probably a bunch of bull, but drink as much fluids as you can, the more you pee the better youll be. and it rhymes,, so there is that.. Good luck youll do great! -
You'll get there, Im considered a success story, i lost 241 pounds in 368 days. Your mileage may vary, and its been the greatest part of my life outside of my wife of course, but the point here, is literally during the first week after surgery i told my wife If i could go back and undo this I would do it. I said that repeatedly. Now id like to go back and show myself what the results can be. You can get there, You WILL get there. People here will help you. You can do this!

How many pant sizes did you lose in a year?
Stevehud replied to Synee's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
in one year and 3 days i went from a 56-58 waist 62 chest to a 40 chest and a 30-32 waist 241 pounds lost. Dont get discouraged if you dont make it there in the time you set, the important thing is just to keep going and keep moving forward. There will be little bumps in the road, and maybe even big ones, but youll get past them. Youll do great! -
Knowing when to stop
Stevehud replied to mollydeez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off, those hunger pains you felt, arent actually hunger pains. they are just gas and acid. it feels like hunger pains, really bad ones. But they subside. Also dont push to get in specific calories, you do want to make sure you get your fluids and your Proteins in. but too little calories isnt really going to happen if your getting your Protein in. Good luck, you can do this.! -
im just happy go lucky, no fighting with anyone. thank you.

this is a common question. Id think it would be harder when no one knows about your surgery and you intend to keep it that way. I would think that just talking to the hostess of the dinner party and let her know you are really trying to stick to your diet and ask them to help you out. If you go out to dinner, its hard to just eat a small bit, you always get the waitress/waiter asking if it was okay, etc. try to order off the appetizer menu or order something you know is easy to hide not eating, like Soup for example, no one ever checks how much soup you ate.

Do you still vomit a year after surgery
Stevehud replied to mari81215's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
youre a year or more out from surgery and throwing up multiple times or at all even? You need to see your surgeon. No its definitely not normal. -
while food doesnt really absorb acid. you'll find your stomach calms down enough so that you should be okay, just go easy, follow your eating rules, and talk to your surgeon about an acid reducer. Good luck, youll do great!

i use an electric blanket, a heated throw for when im at my desk, im toying with heated slippers lol, although i bought these slippers called camping slippers by Baffin, on amazon, they look sort of silly, but think of them as looking like a puffy coat but for your feet, they really work, i also wind up using fingerless gloves so i can type and keep part of my hands warm.

i think the cardiologist knows zero about bariatric surgery. Its what is right for you. I didnt want to have a rerouting of my insides. So i went VSG and i had a lot more than 120 pounds to lose, i lost 240+ pounds, with the vsg and have kept it all off. you can do it either way, personally i felt that being able to eat normally if i wanted to , even with horrible side effects of dumping etc, seemed, like a chance i couldnt take, if there is a workaround i was likely to take it, It seemed a lot harder for me to cheat on a VSG than it did on a bypass, so i went with the VSG, but that may not be the case to you. Also recovery seemed easier for a VSG than a bypass. by those are MY reasons, you would have your own.

Pre-Op Appt. with Surgeon TONIGHT! What questions should I ask?
Stevehud replied to BigKnifeLittleFork's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
anything and everything that comes to mind, What type of surgery do they recommend and why, what is the failure rate, how much support do they give after the surgery, what would he recommend for you as a goal weight, whats required prior to surgery, medical tests, blood work, etc. seriously be afraid of no question,
