General question -- Do they remove any/some of the fat in your abdomen during surgery?
Stevehud replied to Mom26's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i belive this is due to the fact that people think the sleeve is eght loss surgery in that you lose weight due to the surgery. Which as we know is not the truth and is part of the problem with the mythology behind weight loss surgeries. -
What kind of BBQ sauce do you do since surgery?

SO i found a recipe for a particular flavor of this and I tried it with my own flavor and Voila it really works, and is awesome and if you use the right stuff its fat free sugar free and loaded with Protein. Basically it is a scoop of your favorite flavor Protein powder, I used Syntrax Matrix chocolate, but i know its made with Peanut Butter cookie flavor as well and i think it'd work with just about any flavor that you would make a cake out of. Basically in a mug or coffee cup, microwave safe, you take 1 scoop of protein powder, add 1/8th teaspoon of baking powder and mix thoroughly. Then add non dairy creamer, ( i use the coffee mate sugar free italian sweet cream) until it is cake batter consistency. stir it up and microwave for 45 to 60 seconds. then let it cool a little , (not too much though) and top with sugar free whipped topping or sugar free choclate drizzle or your favorite sugar free caramel or flavored syrup etc, . It basically make a mugcake like a lava cake, and the way i make it it has zero fat, zero sugar and about 100 calories. So if you need that cake like fix ( please use responsibly) then this is awesome and you get ( my version) 24 grams of protein as well. It really is excellent! Let me know what you think.

Lately I'm just resuming handgun target shooting. I want to do more trap shooting and sporting clays. 3-Gun competitions look like they would be fun. My local range had an IDPA style handgun comp every month. My birthday gift to myself was a sweet 1911 that I'd love to use in the local stuff. Glock offers the GSSF events. Obviously, you have to run Glocks in their events, but I'm fairly well covered with those. I'm really looking forward to getting back into a steady diet of trigger time. Im in massachusetts one of the tougher states for buying a handgun. in expense as well as licensing. I found a place that will take me through the safety course for handguns and an hour of range time for 100 bucks. So im saving up for that. The hard part is im a revolver fan, although I love 1911's as well. My good friend on colorado just picked up a glock 21 and loves the heck out of it. Im really interested in a .357 revolver, the problem is coming up with the 5 to 8 hundred bucks for one, is probably not going to happen anytime soon with surgical bills, and i have to save for skin surgery etc. But i love watching hickox45 videos on youtube. and the like.

For me Im an avid Gamer on PC. I also take guitar lessons, ( started the month before my surgery) sort of a way to live my dream of playing an instrument and doing it in tandem with this life change. Im an avid sci fi buff as well. I sold off my toy collection to help some of the bills from surgery.

Too many stalls, sigh!
Stevehud replied to leag78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
yep many of us have and you will too if you keep it up. remember everyone is different. I started at 362 pounds last december and im at 188 today. now I take a rather tighter hold on my diet etc and i have bloodwork every 2 months to be sure i am doing ok. I stay on the low end of carbs like 30 or under usually closer to 10 to 15 a day. i dont eat breads much, if i do no more than 3 times a week and only the skinny girl flatout fold it flatbreads, . i still take a Protein shake once a day and my only Snacks are sugar free pudding or sugar free Jello. I dont eats fruits except some apple slices now and then and i watch the veg i eat as well. many vegetable have a lot of sugar, yes its natural sugar but its sugar nonetheless. SO green Beans, broccoli, and cauliflower are my go tos for veg, carrots and crn no more than once a week. i also am at 800 to 1000 calories per day maximum. and i do cardio 6 days a week. Remember though, your journey is your own. Be patient, it took time to become big and unhealthy it will take us all time to get where we want to be as well. -
most pre workout supplements are made for weightlifting types who have not enough body mass to convert to energy or to muscle. that aint us surely. also they are LOADED with caffeine. Like very very very high levels of caffeine, not very safe for most bariatric patients.

What to do with clothes
Stevehud replied to Daveo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i gave a lot to a nephew, and some of my more expensive dress shirts, ralph lauren, tommy bahama etc i sold on ebay and turned that money into new clothes for me. Other stuff i donated and im giving all my suits and sport coats and dress pants to a local veterans group. evidently they said they can definitely use them. -
the best thing about these besides the great compression is that they are soft to the touch and feel nice on, they don't dig in to your skin or feel like they will cut off your circulation. Now also as a hairy guy ( very hairy body, not so much up top anymore lol.) i recently wore one of these for 18 hours ( on my recent business trip) and although i was a bit itchy toward the end, i wasn't dying to get it off and had no circulation or soreness or chafing or any of the other things that you can get from many types of compression shirts. They say hand wash, but my wife puts them in a lingerie bag and washes on cold and hang dry, and they come out like new. when wearing a polo shirt or a smooth dress shirt etc they are a necessity for me. anytime i find something that works, i post it.
-
WELL I GO BY ME, but im down to the point where im wearing a size large shirt, but they have some rumples so to speak lol from loose skin and etc. I bought size large in these shirts and they are the exact right size to hol dme in. so basically if your wearing a xl but very comfortably, i.e. it hides things and could probably wear a size smaller shirt without the bulges. Well let me put this another way i wear some xl's because they look better due to things sticking out , moobs etc, but i fit into a large very well. so i bought the large in these shirts and they fit great for me. so id say whatever size you think you would fit into well if the skin was tighter etc. thats the size to go with. also lets face it at under 10 bucks, its worth taking a good guess as well.
-
Hi guys i dont normally do this. But i have bought three of these recently, two white and one black, and they are uber comfortable and very forgiving, they hold in the moobs better than any shirt ive worn, even the spanx isnt as good, and the loose skin control in the tummy area is amazingly good, and these are cheap. im not associated with them at ll. but i thought these of you on a budget might really love these, i know i do and for reference i buy them the same size as the shirt i should be wearing. so basically the same size as the shirt you would wear if your stuff was more tucked in. http://www.ebay.com/itm/391178063985?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&var=660508687176&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Emergency Stash of Protein
Stevehud replied to BaileyBariatrics's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
be careful to all about Protein bars, many many brands have a large number of grams of sugar. remember 4 grams of sugar is a teaspoon of sygar so 12 grams of sugar is three whole teaspoons of sugar. many is teh time i have picked up a Protein Bar and looked at the label only to be shocked and put it right back down again. -
yes many bariatric recipes are written by people alrady in maintenance. so to them lower mid carb type recipes are great but until you hit that stage, im with you, the only good carb is one i leave behind. now if you HAVE to then there are mr deent carbs like vegetabe carbs etc. but even those i didnt start until 6 months in.

What kitchen gear helped you through your WLS journey
Stevehud replied to Mega_100's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yea those arent sugar free though and still require heavy whipping cream, i stay away from sugar completely, at some later date i will re-introduce a lesser amount of some sugars in my diet but in this easy way out to use the sugar free cool whip, it just works for me. -

New Taste test Syntrax Naturals Chocolate
Stevehud posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Okay hi all, so Syntrax was generous enough to send me some samples of the New Naturals line of Protein shakes. My first taste test was the Natural chocolate. Now the Naturals line has no artificial sweeteners or products and uses stevia and monk fruit to sweeten the product. Zero Sugar, Zero Fat Lactose and gluten free. 90 calories in a full scoop. It mixes extremely well, no blender required its a very very fine powder, not at all grainy. Taste wise, it is one of the most mild flavors ive ever had. It does not have that artificial sweetener taste at the end either. Its a very mild flavor. Did i say that enough? literally if you like strong chocolate flavor this isnt it. But if you need that natural part of things, and have a hard time with that sweet aftertaste, this is most certainly for you. I would highly recommend this as a stand alone mix. Its not strong enough for mix-ins as anything you added would just overpower this flavor. PB2 just overpowered it. But on its own, it was very nice and a really easy drink. I give it 9.5 out of 10 stars. 10 is reserved for an OMG absolute must-haves, and this is a great product for sure. I will have reviews of the orange, peach and strawberry creme soon. Enjoy! -
oops ladies room, my bad.

gosh this is just so true though, i have no way to pay for the surgery yet, but my biggest fear with a TT surgery is the drains. Heck i was a paramedic for 11 years , but then again i freak out when getting an IV, although putting one in someone else is a piece of cake. lol irrational fears are soooo un fun. lol

Top 10 Signs of Junk Science
Stevehud replied to BaileyBariatrics's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
i made 12 million dollars working at home, on google and through this website, last month alone... Ha Ha I really despise those people. I got called last night by one of those windows service centers for your computer, i wont mention the country of origin because people think I am racist if i mention a foreign country, but anyway. I unfortunately was not in a good mood, was trying to rush out to he gym it was 96 degrees, i had just come home from work, i was washing a frying pan and dropped it and had to wipe up soapy Water on the floor etc, and got that call, and I just exploded at the guy, lol truthfully though i did feel better after. I do love to mess with telemarketers, like the last idiot that called about solar panels, i told him " im sorry sir, but on my planet, we dont have a sun, just ambient cosmic radiation." i was met with stunned silence. I love window salesmen, to them i usually say, I have no windows in my home, i bricked them all up to keep out the zombies. That usually gets a chuckle. -
to each his own. But remember it is called weight loss surgery for a reason. Its not called body change or clothes dont fit surgery. Im proud of what I have accomplished, if someone really wants to know. I tell them. I dont let others judge me, thats my job.

Help the OAC Fight Weight Bias on the Dr. Ken Show!
Stevehud replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Done and done, thank you Alex. -
yep, i am going on Friday to the RMV to get a new license, mine doesn't expire for two years yet, but i look nothing like my picture and I have to fly to Atlanta on Monday for business for four days and it had been brought to my attention that TSA will give me a hard time over my current license. So it was either get a new license ,50 bucks, or get my passport made, and time constraints made the passport option not feasible.

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!
Stevehud replied to Sunshine3073's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I go to the gym 6 days a week now. For me its a bit of a novelty, being overweight or fat or whatever pretty much all my life, this is still like being a newborn to me. The company is work for is full of very fit people. out of 30 employees we have 4 triathletes, 5 regular survival run type people, and 6 marathoners. I was pretty much the lone fat person in the company. My co-workers would say things like, " oh when you start going to the gym, you will become addicted to it!" or " oh you'll be unhappy on days you dont go." .... NOT!!, lol I still dont love going. but i have found its necessary to keep focused, to make that commitment to myself and keep it. Now I am lucky my wife goes to the gym with me 4 times a week and we do all cardio for now. Soon to really join in the circuit training as well. But i found riding a stationary bike while i watch movies on my tablet is just ideal. I can do 12 to 15 miles at a very good pace while watching a movie and i don't pass out and die afterward. Every other day i hit the treadmill and do about 2 or so miles at a 4, incline at a very brisk pace. But under no circumstances do i love it, nor am I addicted to it lol. But i do love the result. And im watching a lot of movies. My suggestion is dont overdo it, dont dive in to the cardio full bore, take two weeks and maybe you do 3 mile son the bike at a easy pace. then slowly each week add a mile or the like until youve lost a good amount and feel more comfortable. Do not just jump in and run yourself ragged on the elliptical or stepper or whatever and barely make it out alive, this is negative reinforcement and just makes you dread the gym or working out even more. I recommend Planet Fitness if there is one close by. If you do use a gym, make sure it is close enough that its not a big production for you to go. My gym is literally 1 mile from my home, and that's a big motivator for going. I have another planet fitness that is like 4 miles from home and that just seems to far for me and gives me an easy reason not to go. Do what is necessary to make it easy for yourself to succeed, or at least as easy as you can make it. -
Recommended level of carbs in the diet - research
Stevehud replied to RetroGirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Everyone's journey is different is not just a common theme, it is the truth. lol I do know the dangers of ultra low carb eating. You have to be aware of how glycogen is used in the brain, and how you can use high Protein intake to run the brain rather than glucose. Also you have o be very diligent with Vitamins. Which I am, also being on top of bloodwork is important. The issues that are mentioned with low carb eating is the assumption that you go high fat low carb, which is not what i do at all. i do no sugar, ultra low carb, so you dont run the same risk of lipid increases etc. I eat things like turkey bacon, no its not bacon, but its good. And probably 99% of my meals are chicken or turkey, very lean cuts ( i tend to trim it myself) usually with spices and i do get some carbs usually from basmati or brown rice. about two tablespoonfuls with my dinner. I do get a little fat from sugar-free pudding, but I get a ton of vitamins and minerals from my Multivitamins, my Iron supplements, and my Protein shakes. Sometimes I do go as high as 30 carbs, for example last night i had some beautiful halibut, and i breaded it a bit, my estimate is about 12 to 18 carbs . Also I do occasionally get some carbs from nice fresh corn, or some carrots. For me hitting this low of a carb daily intake has helped me avoid the truly epic major stalls. Now in truth my weight loss did slow from the proverbial 20 to 30 pounds a month to the mundane 5 to 8 pounds a month. But at this point, it is to be expected. My body changes are still occurring and are dramatic so I am happy with it. and with 23 pounds to go to my goal, I'm well on my way . The most important thing I tell people, is to do what works for you. There are people's eating habits I don't agree with, and I'm damn sure some people don't agree with mine, but as long as you can be healthy, and you are achieving your weight loss goals, I'm all for what anyone is doing. In my eyes, carbs =sugar, sugar= bad , but that may not work for you. Find what works for you, and run with it. -
Recommended level of carbs in the diet - research
Stevehud replied to RetroGirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
my nutritionist, is a triathlon trainer, and as such is on my page of little to no carbs during the losing phase, after that , you increase carbs to whatever you can to offset workouts etc. so you take in what you put out, kind of thing. as such im 9+ months post surg, and i take in about 10 to 15 carbs a day, 30 on a max carb workout day. and thse high carb days are rare for me. I do this because it works. im not good at moderation. i have 2 teaspoon, fulls of basmati rice with my chicken usually 4 days a week, i started that at the 6 month mark. I find that carbs derail my weight loss faster than even sugars right now although i shun those as well. i go ultra low carb because it works for me, After the losing phase i will increase first to 30 carbs then probably upwards of 50 but i doubt ill ever get higher than that. Unless i take up distance running ( yeah right ha ha)
