who is having surgery in September?

Hi Snowblue, I'm doing ok on the diet. It is very hard. I ended making a soup with the allowable veggies and broth, and it tastes super great when I mostly eating shakes and bars. I'm so excited for surgery, but I really haven't been scared. Now I'm worried I'll freak out right before surgery since it seems I'm not dealing with fear yet.

    My second attempt

Hi! I'm scheduled for 9/22. We can be sugary buddies. First, follow your heart. Don't make a decision based on fear. Do your research, make a pro/con list. Then visit a local support group. My clinic has a support group that meets twice a month. Different guest facilitators share leading the group. Sometimes it's a surgeon, a psychologist, a successful veteran. I think meeting folks in person at different stages of the journey could really help you. I also think it is very reasonable to have fear and concern. This is major surgery. You just need to ask which fears are rational, vs. irrational. Sounds easy, but I know it isn't. You might also check out the veterans' forum and ask some of your questions. Let me know if I can do,anything to help.

    10 days from surgery!

I'm 4 days after you. Now it's waiting and being patient. I thank God I am busy at work. When I come home and have down time I think about food. Not good! I,started taking my dogs on walks and reading this forum. It has helped me stay focused on my diet. Please let me know how your surgery goes, and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hi! I got my insurance approval today! 9/22. Insurance has approved, date is set, all pre-op appointments are complete, on day 5 of my pre-op diet! We are almost there! What a long journey...
  6. This is a fun topic. I have had long hair my whole life, but it is straight and fine. When I lose hair and am thinner, I am going for a short haircut! I'm so excited! I think change is good for all of us. ❤️????????????????????

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Good luck to you. After my endoscope my surgeon told me I'm not a candidate for sleeve because it would increase my gerd. Since then I have read so much about folks having terrible gerd and going for revisions. This confirms my decision to move forward with bypass. I wish you luck and a speedy recovery.

    September surgery

Hi September surgery friends! Is anyone else worried about the statistics for total weight loss after surgery? I'm obsessing, worrying... The stats say average weight loss after one year is 62%! I have 100 lbs to lose so applying that stat to me would mean only 62 lbs. I think I really need a support group to actually go to for help. Anyone else have this concern? Do any of you know of a support group in Orange County, CA?

Should I do a sleep study?

I had one recently and have serious obstructive sleep apnea. I'm now on a CPAP machine. The doctor scared me straight in that I'm using it faithfully. Once I teach goal weight doc believes I won't have apnea anymore but I'll do another sleep study to confirm. My insurance covered it though so I'm not sure how much a study then CPAP machine costs.

    New Shakes!

I'm drinking the Premier Protein from Costco. 30 g of protein, 1g of sugar, 160 calories. They are pretty good and they allow me to get my protein in.

    September surgery

My date is set for 9/22, but that was originally for a sleeves after my endo, my surgeon said he recommends the bypass. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow so I hope this won't change the date. Today I'd day two of my preop diet. I was really hungry yesterday, but I'm feeling better today. Let's do this!
  17. I love Dr. Braverman! He is so smart and kind! Very down to earth. He is doing my bypass 9/22. I can't wait!

    Scale

Such a great question! My sister was sleeved in December. I wanted to ask her every time we spoke on the phone. I was living her journey and really excited for her. It is so unimportant now. She is healthy and looks great! I'm so happy for her, and she inspired me to get WLS too. I don't want to get hung up on a number. I want to,feel healthy, energetic so much more than all the other benefits. I really need to focus on getting out of a chair to stand up, walking my dogs without sweating, cleaning my house without being exhausted the rest of the day. Don't get me wrong! I'll also love looking good too!
  19. I have decided on the bypass too for the same reason. I am concerned about anemia and poor nutrition. I have chronic anemia now before the bypass, so I'm working to get my iron levels up before surgery and resigning to future vitamin supplementation.

    Pre op liquid diet

I'm starting my preop diet Monday. My NUT suggested Premier Protein drink from Costco. Each drink has 30 grams of protein. I'm to have three of those, unlimited allowed veggies as a salad or soup. She suggest Walden Farms calorie free salad dressing from Sprouts. I am also allowed 2 protein bars a day for snacks. The idea is to shrink the liver for a smoother surgery. Sounds good to me!
  21. I had my endoscope yesterday and found out I'm not a candidate for sleeve. My surgeon recommended we do bypass instead. Apparently my hiatal hernia is do large half my stomach is sitting on top of my diaphragm. Since reading this forum I'm feeling better about the bypass, so thank you all for sharing your experiences. My sister was sleeved 8 months ago so I wanted to do the same. Now I realize how unique each of our decisions must be. I say go with your surgeon and medical teams' advice. They know you best. Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery! ????
  22. Hi. I just had my endoscope, and my surgeon told me he won't do the sleeve because I have a huge hernia. He said if he does the sleeve I'll suffer from horrible heartburn. He wants me to consider the bypass. I have been preparing for the sleeve for almost a year, so I am really disappointed. Since I've been home from the hospital, I have been reading all about bypass. Anyone else go through this?

I'm 9/22 too! I start my pre-op diet 9/8! I have to go off my hormones tomorrow until after surgery! This will be interesting. I'm really excited, and a little anxious.

    My second attempt

I just had my pre-op with my surgeon, and it made everything so real! My surgery is 9/22. I have to off my hormones tomorrow! ???? kind of worried to be honest, about not taking hormones which could trigger some anxiety.. Anyone else have to go off? If so, how are you doing?
