Happy surgiversary! It's been four days for me so you are inspiring me! -
Oh my goodness! That makes a world of difference on your back! I am only four days post op, but those are the kinds of NSV I'm looking forward to the most! I haven't been able to buy a bra at Victoria's Secret in decades! I can't wait!

You are looking great! Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Three weeks to go! I'm ready
Jolisue replied to ranece's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had mine done on 9/22! Home and feeling pretty good. I've got a bit of the gas pain in my shoulder but it definitely better today than yesterday. Does anyone know when we're supposed to poop post op? Don't feel the urge, but it's been like four days? -
Which pureed soup is best health wise?
Jolisue replied to Angelyaya5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just puréed minestrone vegetable, Progresso! It was amazing! I topped it off with some Parmesan cheese! I feel like I had an Italian meal! I'm on day 4, but my surgeon says, "If it pours, it's yours!" It's a nice change from the shakes, which aren't too bad, and I need them for the protein goal. He suggested the Progresso Vegetable minestrone. I'm happy he did! -
Sleeve Vs Bypass... How did you decide?
Jolisue replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just had the bypass on 9/22. I was totally set for the sleeve. My sister had it and is at goal doing great! When I went in for the endoscope the surgeon said I had a huge hiatal hernia, with half my stomach in my chest. He said I'd get gerd the rest of my life if I went with the sleeve and he wouldn't do it. I was super disappointed but did my research. Normally bypass surgery takes 45 minutes. Apparently mind took 6 hours. The hiatal hernia was terrible and had to be repaired. The surgeon showed me photos of what he had to do! Amazing! Today I'm four days post op and super happy it's all behind me. Do your research. The bypass is still the "gold standard" of WLS. You'll be informed and comfortable once you do that. Best wishes! -
I'm four days post op and much better than yesterday. Walk, sip, breathe! Best advice! I have read other folks say day 3 and 4 are hard the you really start to feel better! I'm counting on that! I'm taking my Tylenol every four hours and it seems to help! I took a shower this morning and feel human! I had a cup of decafe coffee which really feels normal! Now I'm sipping on my protein shake just visualizing the healing! Hang in there!

Woke up from surgery without the bypass.

So sorry to hear this! I'll bet you are discouraged. I'm sure once your infection is gone you'll get the surgery! Hang in there! -
I am scheduled to have gastric bypass on 10/7/14
Jolisue replied to kelli_kelli_kelli's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Kelli, I'm day four post op! It hasn't been bad. In fact tolerable is a good word. I agree to get up and walk walk walk! My hospital actually let us track our laps on the floor so a few of us got kind of competitive. I came home yesterday, and it was good, but a little different. When you're in the hospital you tend to be surrounded by other gastric bypass patients and its like you have a little group. Now comes the day to day, life. ☺️ I've got pain but tolerable, and a great husband helping out. My best advice is to get your support system ready. Having folks understand your journey is really helpful! Best luck to you! -

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I will be having a gastric sleeve on 9/22. I'm currently going through all the tests prepping. Tonight I'm going to have a sleep study. I just keep checking off the appointments and getting excited as the date is closer every day!

Hi! I'm 54 years old, female, 5'10" and I currently weigh 247. I have struggled with my weight since my 30's after kids, but I've always been on some kind of diet. Since my 30s I have been a yo yo dieter. It used to be easy to drop 20 lbs and then I'd be happy, only to regain the 20 and add 10 more. I hit 200 once I turned 40, and that has been my lowest weight for more than a decade. My surgery is Monday, 9/22, at 9:30AM. It is surreal at this moment. I have a slightly stuffy nose so I sure hope that doesn't change anything! I've been doing so so on the pre op diet, but my cheats have been small but not part of the plan. I'm to have 3 Protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars and unlimited veggies. I had a cup of lentils, some almonds, peanuts and cheese over the course of two weeks, which I have felt tremendous guilt about. Almost as though I failed some kind of test. I have lost 12 pounds with two days to go. It makes me wonder if this is an indicator of failing the RNY lifestyle. ???? I think I'm feeling a little down today. Thanks for listening!

I have made pizza out of eggplant and it was delightful! No frying. It's Julia Child's recipe including the sauce. I found it on Pintrist but I'm sure one could simple Google it.

Do you cook the califlower first before mashing? I've seen this on Pintrist and it looks yummy'

Praying for a speedy recovery! ????

???????????????????????????????????? so happy for you, and sending many prayers your way!

Off limit foods after bypass
Jolisue replied to rhfactor272's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I read somewhere that RNY patients have to be careful about drinking alcohol particularly in the first year. Apparently we are at high risk for developing a replacement addiction from food to alcohol or drugs. I think it is a good thing to avoid while we work out out emotional reasons for over eating. Not to mention alcohol is high converted sugar. ???? -
If you Google colors of bowel movements you can learn quite a bit. Black stools for example mean you are bleeding. Dark green is from Iron. Your stool should be a variation of brown. I think yellow to white might indicate you aren't absorbing nutrients. Google it, then talk to your surgeon or pcp. I'm just a fellow RNY patient and don't know anything other than what I read.

Omg! 21 days without pooing! You must have been worried. I'll bet you dropped a good number if pounds once you finally did. Did you have to go to your doctor for this?

who is having surgery in September?
Jolisue replied to veronica.gray's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Surgery is in one week from tomorrow. I bought The Big Book of Gastric Bypass, and am reading it voraciously! Now I'm starting to get anxious! I read the chapter on the surgery, and it does a terrific job telling you what to expect. Now I'm obsessing about sleep apnea and anesthesia. -

What is the word on chewing gum? My sister had the sleeve, and a good friend had lap Band. They are forbidden to chew gum. How about those of us getting RNY?
