How do I verify my surgeon is legit/qualified/accredited?
Cody's mom replied to SlimJill's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to the surgery in Mexico thread, everything you could ever want to know is on there. -
@@Qtpie28, I had prime rib two weeks after surgery, and believe me, it was the greatest thing in the world. All I can say is chew, chew, chew. But if that's too risky for you, there's some funky new runners out there that might hit the spot! Enjoy your birthday and enjoy your new life!

I went out and had steak / lobster and a glass of Champagne with several friends, instead of birthday cake I had a mini birthday cupcake. I might have eaten only a few bites of each, but enjoyed it just the same. It's nice when you can share a meal and costs with someone. I was three months out from surgery! Happy Birthday in advance!

Managing my expectations
Cody's mom replied to kimmeesue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Since Sept 1, 2014 (the start of my pre-op diet) I've lost 45 pounds. I was stalled for two months, didn't lose an ounce. I'm 53 years old. Everyone is different, when those stalls happen and it's frustrating, just be happy your not gaining. -
Thinking about the sleeve, Advice?
Cody's mom replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Sleeve101, you can also try a slice of cheese wrapped in a slice of cold cut meat, cook a little hamburger or turkey burger add a little gravy. I can't do Protein shakes, so I went straight to solid foods shortly after surgery, just chewed things really well, took small bites ate small amounts. I loved clam chowder and broccoli/cheddar Soup, so I ate that a week after surgery with no problem, any Soups really I had no problem with, just chew anything in them really well. -
Who is scared to give up food?
Cody's mom replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@JerseyJules, most of us were on a two week pre-op diet which included two Protein shakes and a small salad per day, followed by two days of clear liquids, then nothing 24 hours prior to surgery, so trust me, we know how many food commercials there are. If you only had to go on a restricted diet for a day or two, you're very lucky! -
There is a thread on here about those of us that went to Mexico, the doctors we had and the experiences we went threw. I personally felt I was cared for much better than I would have been here. The prices are affordable, the doctors fantastic and you can name the date you wnat to go without having to jump threw all the hoops needed for insurance. Please look for the threat about Mexico, the success rate is fantastic, it's safe, and affordable. Best of luck! I went alone as do many patient, and felt totally comfortable.

Who is scared to give up food?

Ohh I love those small cupcakes. We have a place here called Craves, and they make the best cupcakes, they have the regular size and the small. I made a BIG dinner for all my girlfriends this Christmas, we had lobster, beef tenderloin, rice (with egg, chicken, celery, onions and butter), spaghetti squash, and for dessert we had the cupcakes. Well, after two glasses of a champagne cocktail (I love champagne with mandrine oranges at the bottom of the glass to smoosh), we sat down to eat. I could only at that point after cooking everything (and sampling) muster a bite of each item (and WOW it was good), but after sitting and talking for an hour, we broke into the mini cupcakes. I had two, one pepermint pattie (chocolate with mint icing) and a red velvet (yumm). So really, I enjoyed absolutely everything everyone else had, didn;t deprive myself of anything and didn;t feel sick cause I ate too much. I just eat a whole pile less than everyone else. It was a great night, with great friends and great food. I was sleeved September 14, 2014. I had 75 pounds to lose and I have 30 to go (I lost 5 pounds during Christmas). I do not eat like this everyday, but I LOVE food, and I enjoy food, but am so happy I no longer can eat everyone under the table, or embarress myself with the quatity that was me before, but can continue to enjoy the things I loved. Now I taste and enjoy, I don't inhale and feel sick! I was a foodie before, I love, lived and drempt about food, now I love live and dream about the things I can do and will do. Eat to live, not live to eat, and nothing tastes as good as thin feels!!!! Good luck to everyone going into this journey, it's a fantastic tool to help get you where you want to go!!! -

@@shizwiz, and guess what, you can have that subway sandwich, but instead of a 12 inch, you'll be satisfied by one or two inches or bites, and those chips you'll be happy with three single chips, and those three Cookies, you'll be satisfied after a bite or two of one. I had subway last weekend, and I ate probably two inches of a six inch steak sub and that's was good I was content for another four or five hours. Your obsession with food will be gone, but your enjoyment will still be there. -

@@AWholeNewMama, I love pizza as well, and had one during Christmas, the difference is in the amount you eat. Don't deprive yourself, enjoy, you'll only want a few bites. I still love Chinese food, and have it still, just now I'm happy with two bites of each item, instead of the massive amounts I once ate. I have yet to find a Protein shake I like, so I have to rely on real foods and have since the second week out from surgery. Last night I had prime rib along with one spoonful of mashed potatoes, a bite of a yorkshire pudding and a spoonful of corn. It will surprise you how little will satisfy you so you can still enjoy eating, your just not living to eat anymore. Have your pizza on your cheat day, a few bites will be all you'll want, and you will love and enjoy it. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels, so once you start losing weight and feeling good about yourself, so much will change. I had pizza, chinese food and chocolate during Christmas and lost 5 pounds, maybe it would have been more had I not had those things, but I enjoyed every single mouthful (small mouthfuls and only one or two). This is not a death sentence, it's a life sentence, you don;t have to say goodbye to anything but the weight. Good luck! -

Went back to full routine a week after, no problems, not tired, not sick. Worked 16 days straight, 11.5 hours per day, then I got five days off, then back for 16 straight (that's my shift, 16 on, 5 off). I don't do well laying around so I was happy to be back doing what I normally do right away. -

@@AzElle, funny, I had my surgery with him September 14, and I too was playing and shopping within a few days of surgery he was awesome. I'm looking to have surgery in Mexico to "fix" a few things as well.. Keep me posted, there is a Doctor posted on this thread that might be worth looking into. Also several of the ladies I had my surgery on the same day with are looking into PV Mexico for a surgery / vacay later this year. -
Make sure you take them up on the ice cream when you get out of the hospital, we all enjoyed it, and the tomato soup at the hotel was a treat. Enjoy your new life!
