  1. Considering that you won't be able to put much weight on your ankle it might be better to do the ankle surgery first, let that heal then do the sleeve. Because after the sleeve surgery it is very important that you stay mobile and continue to walk after surgery because there is a high risk for clots. Most surgeons tell you that after sleeve surgery hours later they start u walking to prevent clots and it may be hard for you to do that. But you should ask the surgeon who is doing your ankle and sleeve and see what they both think that way you all are on the same page! ! Good luck to you

    Pre-op Class?

I have had to pay for every visit, seminar and class I have attended for my surgery. It has never been that high though. They usually just ask for my $20 copay

New to the process - help?

I started my process on July 3rd,2014. My insurance only required me to do a psych evaluation, blood work and attend a nutrition seminar. I am done with all 3 and am currently waiting for approval from the insurance company. So as of now it's been almost 2 months. But of course it depends on your insurance and what they require of u. Some require 3-6 month supervised diets. But good luck to you on your journey

    Painful incisions...1 month later

I haven't had my surgery yet but I plan on having it some time at the end of September. But my surgeon told me it should take about 4-6 weeks to heal. And that is the amount of time he is taking me off because my job is also hard on the body and requires a lot of lifting.

  7. Since I am currently awaiting for my insurance approval I think I should start buying some protein supplements and shakes. What would you guys recommend? Looking for something high in protein and low in calories and sugar. Preferably sugar free. Any ideas??

Thank you guys for all the suggestions. I believe I'm gonna go with the Syntrax Nectar. Per one scoop it has 24 grams of protein and I've tried this one before but it was a while ago

From what I've read, a lot of people like the taste of the Syntrax Nectars.

@@JazzyJeff chose the sleeve because I feel like it would fit me better as far as the amount of weight I am trying to lose and also keep off. With the sleeve they cut about 80-85% of your stomach out and create a new pouch. And I also chose the sleeve because my surgeon told me that with the lap band it often slides, or there are ways to get around it to gain the weight back. Which I assume can also be done with the sleeve. And also I have friends who have had the lap band and had it removed after loosing a lot of weight and they gained it back. But on a positive note the lap band is reversible so you are able to take it out or get it revised when ever you want. That's cool you don't have to do a 6 month supervised diet. I didn't either. I just needed to do the psych evaluation. .nutrition eval and labs.

How long the process takes depends on your insurance and the requirements needed to have surgery. Some insurances just require a psych evaluation. .nutrition evaluation and labs. Others require a 6 month supervised weight loss before surgery. You just need to talk to your insurance company and go from there. Also it is good to write down any questions you have for the surgeon. It is better to go prepared so that way all your questions get answered. @@JazzyJeff May I ask why you chose the lap band? I haven't had my surgery yet but I am going to have the sleeve. I'm just waiting for my insurance approval. Also your weight loss so far is awesome. Salute to you.

You look awesome!!!! Reading your story really touched my heart. You have come a long way. I have not had my surgery yet but after reading your story I can't wait to start my life over!!

    Deductible

I believe the deductible has to be paid before the surgery is done. As far as the drs fee I'm not too sure. But $4000 is a bit pricey. What kind of insurance do you have?

    Goodbye lapband, hello sleeve!

Congrats on your revision. Good luck with your swallow test tomorrow. Praying for no leaks and a speedy recovery
  14. After calling none stop and bugging my surgeons office they have finally received my psych assessment and called this morning to tell me that my paperwork is being sent to the insurance. FINALLY!!! and they say it will take about 5-7 days for a fax back. I'm excited that part is done. Hopefully everything goes smoother now :)

    Its real!

Congratulations that's awesome. Praying that you have a speedy recovery
  16. Adam you are going to do great. I have not had my surgery yet but I think it is a natural feeling to second guess your decision..and to be paranoid about possible complications. I think it's awesome that the hospital you are going through has had no leaks. Trust me you will be fine. Everybody who has been heavy and lost a large amount of weight has had saggy skin. As long as you stay in the weights and work hard at it, it shouldn't be as bad. But good luck to you and I can't wait to hear your success story

    Still seeing a fat girl?

I haven't had my surgery yet but I have friends who have had the sleeve and let me tell you honey you look FABULOUS! !!!.I honestly think it's a mental thing because they say the same thing..but keep up the hard work you are doing great
  18. That's weird that they would not mention that part to you. As they do prefer you not to get pregnant the first 18 months post surgery I don't think it's a requirement to have to be on birth control. As long as you are being safe I feel it's ok. Me personally I would rather use protection and stay safe rather than use birth control because it throws my body all out of wack. But I wouldn't just give up on it either. You have already started your requirements I say you ask your surgeons office will it be required of you to take it or what are your other options

    Carbonation

My doctor says he does not want me drinking carbonated drinks due to the fact that the carbon/fizz will expand your stomach. He prefers me to drink water or flavored sugar free waters. I suppose maybe after your stomach has healed and u are able to take in more than it should be OK to try it..but I plan on eliminating sodas and other carbonated drinks all together..but good luck to you
  20. Congratulations! !..hope u have a speedy Recovery
  21. 8 weeks out you should be on purees and soft foods right?.I'm assuming there will be food there that you can't eat but I'm sure there are also other foods that are soft and tolerable. I have friends who have gone on cruises after surgery and they have told me that there was no urge to eat because of their stomach restrictions and also because they were scared of "dumping syndrome"...I think you should be fine unless you are still in pain post surgery I would reconsider.

how often do you weigh yourself?

I use to weigh myself every morning and it would always mess with my mind. Like one minute after a hard work out I would be down about 5 lbs. Then go home drink water and go to sleep. Then in the morning weigh my self and have gained like 3 lbs back. It was a mind game even when I know it was probably water weight. So now I weigh in either once a week or every 2 weeks.

    Scared

You are going to do great!!!..Good luck
  24. Well I went to meet with my dietitian today and it went pretty good. I am now officially done with all my requirements. On a bad note I was told by my surgeons office that they hadn't received my assessment from the psychological evaluation. Mind you that was done on 7/24/2014. So I had to call and wait for them to find my paperwork and say it had gotten misplaced but they will fax it over today. I sure hope they do so my surgeons office can fax over my paperwork to the insurance tomorrow (fingers crossed) I'm just starting to get impatient and just want my surgery date already..lol
