I have bcbs fep. Yesterday I got a bill from the anesthesiologist who did my EGD for over $900 bucks!!! Will I have to pay this before my actual surgery? I'm contacting the insurance to see why I'm paying so much out of pocket! Has this happened to anyone else?

THE MAGIC WORDS: "YOU'VE BEEN APPROVED!"

I got approved today too! Yay for us!! -
Got the call today and I'm approved! Then I panicked. Omg, I'm really gonna do this, aren't I? Yikes! But, I've been hoping and praying for this although the few people that know don't get it. I've only been overweight the last few years after having my thyroid removed but the number keeps creeping up! I want my old life back and this is my chance!!

Yea, that sucks. My approval only took 6 days so hopefully you won't have to wait much longer. Keep me posted!

Congrats! What's your date? -
Lol! Right you are! I call bcbs and was told that they anesthesiologist may just accept their payment and write off the remainder. Hmmmm....not sure about that one, but we'll see.

Thanks. I was told my out of pocket for bcbs fep would be $400, but now I see that's just to the surgeon's office!!
-
That's what I did wrong! All of my appts have been set up through the surgeon's office and I assume they'd all be in-network. The psych eval, sleep study, and actual EGD all had small copays. This is the first time this has happened. I'm calling my insurance coordinator today!!

Actually it reflected that the insurance only paid $290. The original bill was over $1200!

I'm also waiting!!! It's the worse!! ????

I hope so too! Hopefully I'll get good news this week!

Federal BCBS paid for my sleeve 100%, minus the copayments for the hospital and my surgon!

This helped me a lot too. I have bcbs federal and paperwork was submit this past Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get some good news this week! -
I have heard of surgeons performing the sleeve while repairing the hernia. The insurance is billed for the hernia as the primary basis for surgery. I do think there is some out of pocket money but not too much.

Thanks guys!

Hello everyone, I'm getting worried and I could use some advice. I attempted to begin the process to get the sleeve during the summer, but was told that my 2 year weight history did not show a BMI of 35 in 2011. About a month ago, a friend referred me to another surgeon who agreed to start the process. I've completed the Nutrition appt, sleep study, psych eval, stress test, and endoscopy all in the last 2 weeks! Whew! I have 2 more groups to go, one in November and the other in December. I'm so hoping that I can submit in January and get approved, but I'm so worried that my medical records will not reflect that I have a full 2 years of a 35BMI!!!! I have chronic high blood pressure that requires two medications to control along with a host of other medical issues related to a thyroidectomy in 2012. Has anyone else had this problem/concern and if so, what did you do?! I so want to get this done at the first of the year! My surgeon's office actually wants to submit in December, but it was my idea to wait until January, hoping it will allow me to get medical records from 2013-2014, instead of 2012-2013!! I'm kinda freaking out!
