First, congratulations on such a huge step. You are in your way to better health. In terms of what is normal, everyone differs but here's my experience. I was dog tired the first 2 weeks (sleeved 7/14/14) and didn't get energy until week 3. Part if it was due to caffeine withdraw. I used to down coffee in the am and Dt. Pepsis all darn day. Add to the fact that I just had major surgery--sleeve and hernia repair at once--and I was straining just to stand for 1 minute! I am back to drinking coffee but it is a mixture of 80% decaf and 20% dark roast caffeinated. I have banned Dt. Pepsi and soda as well as any other drink with caffeine. Also, your calorie intake is very low due to restrictions in diet so its only natural to be tired. Follow the eating plan they gave you but I say stop when you feel satisfied. I made the mistake of going a little overboard and regretted it the rest of the night. I threw up and had a serious stomachache. Be sure to stay hydrated because you won't find yourself wanting to eat but definitely be mindful about when you feel satisfied. I am 1.5 mos out and still can't finish an entire shake. I can get down about 1/2 to 3/4 cups of soft foods in a meal then I have to stop. Soup of about a cup. Good luck to you! I am sure you'll do well. Remember: protein, vitamins (if prescribed), water, water, water, and get up and move even if its only 5 minutes at a time. It gets easier. I still get tired by about 3 pm but I try to power through. Going to start incorporating light strength training into my regiment. That will help with energy.

Don't get into a habit of comparing yourself to others. My surgeon told me that weight loss differs per person and to stay away from scale. The best way to measure isn't the scale, its your clothing and fitness. Right now you are still in the early stages, your body is still healing and might not want to give up the weight as fast. As ling as you are following the advice of your NUT and your doc you'll be ok. This is a life long journey and thats a good thing because it takes time to break old habits. It is hard but you'll see magnificent results a month from now, 6 months from now, a year from now....just keep on trucking. Also, go to those support group meetings! They are a huge help. Did you take any pre-op photos? Those help too. Just don't obsess. -

I am the same as you. I also felt like there was something wrong with me when I read others talk about how little they eat. It gets better. Remember that you just had a significant surgery and no one feels normal after a major surgery. Add to this the fact that you are unable to continue eating like you used to. I felt the same way my first 2 weeks...I was miserable and wish I hadn't done it. Now that I am 6 weeks out I am so very glad I did it. It is forcing me to make good choices and adopt a healthy lifestyle. In time you will feel the same way especially when you are better healed and can progress your diet. Hang in there! I have lost a close to 30lbs since July 14. -

I am about 7 weeks out and I am finding I feel satisfied when I take in about 900 calories a day when I workout and about 700-800 when I don't work out. I've perused around other boards and found some folks still eating only 600 calories at this point. My appetite is definitely different than pre-op but I feel like a pig compared to those other folks. I track everything that goes in my mouth to ensure I meet the protein and water goals but I am also careful with fat and carbs. Anyone else feel like try need to get in a bit more to be satisfied? Maybe my anxiety is getting the best of me. Date sleeved: 7/14/14 HW: 265 Day of Surgery: 244 CW: 220 Goal: 125-130 @ 5'3" -
Forced to be put on birth control after surgery?

I was simply told it is not advisable to become pregnant within the 1st 18 mos. To me, it was a no-brainer as to why. The office didn't say how to keep from becoming pregnant. I didn't expect them to have to tell me that part because I know the options and am also done with childbearing. Your friend has to do what works for her. If it means taking birth control or being abstinent then that is her decision, not one being forced on her. -
No excuses given. I tell them I have decided to take control of my health. Only people I have told is my "sister" who is a friend I have known since age 4 so she is family and she is also a licensed psychologist so I can trust her that much more. Obviously my hubby knows. Thats it. I got my surgeon and dietician to give me notes for work so I can eat properly and as I need but the notes do not specify why exactly. That is all anyone needs to do. Your medical info is private and you shouldn't feel obliged to share.

Sure, you can. You must remember the procedure is only a tool. You must commit to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. I am 4 weeks out and am not craving foods like I did the first two weeks. For 2 weeks after my surgery, I was on Pinterest daily looking at cheeseburgers, cake, cupcakes, steak, cheesesteaks, and jelly donuts, mad as hell with myself for having a surgery that prevents me from eating that stuff. It was like food porn! LOL But I also knew that I did not lay on the operating table, get anesthetized, and have part of my stomach amputated just to go back to bad habits. Make sure you go to support group meetings, talk to your doctor and NUT. If you have a lot of anxiety about gaining weight back, see a therapist who specializes in eating disorders but most of all learn to take care of yourself first! Take some nutrition classes too. That's a huge help. My problem is I still crave Dt. Pepsi. I swear Walter White delivered cases to my house daily prior to my surgery decision. I'd put one in the freezer until it got to that ice-cold-but-not-frozen point. Everyday after work.......that is how I relaxed. But now I can't touch a drop and its making me crazy. On the other hand, I'd rather suffer through the cravings than to give in and be sorry later. That Dt. Pepsi will hurt going down and can increase my pouch. Will I abstain forever from a bubbly drink? Not likely but it will be a long time before I have a few small sips. Just remember, your will is stronger than you think and once you start to feel better, look better, and manage stress better you'll be just fine. -
I was sleeved July 14 and can say the liquid faze was the hardest. The urge to chew can be overbearing. That being said, I admit to tasting a few things that required some chewing BUT I was sure to chew, chew, and chew some more. I am on soft foods now so it is getting better but I still miss chewing. Once you can get to the soft foods stage it'll get better because you can incorporate more flavors into your diet and I've found this to reduce the urge to chew. So far I am down 20 post op, 20 pre total 40.
