    Surgery tomorrow!

I have been using Spiru-Tein. I have a strong aversion to sugar substitutes and this powder is low in sugar but what it does have is natural.. Nit is more expensive than some others out there but it is very high quality and I think it tastes great.

    Trouble sleeping

I was taking melotonin regularly before surgery and surgeon gave no indication not to take it post-op

    Had my surgery yesterday

My surgery was on Monday and I am still in the hospital but hoping to go home tomorrow. Getting my walks in and my plan is to not have more than two oz of fluid per hour. Funny how every plan I'd different. My oxygen and blood pressure are still low but hopefully they will be all set tomorrow. Good to tal to others with same surgery dates.
  4. After a year long effort to get to this point I finally had rny on Monday. I am still in the hospital and having trouble walking bc my blood pressure is dropping very low (90/50) and I get pretty dizzy. I could really use some words of encouragement while I am lying here very bruised and in a significant amount if pain. I know in my head that it will get better but having a hard time right now.
  5. May 11 surgery date for me! Trying so hard to work through the pre-op diet and doing pretty good but did break down and had 2 ounces of grilled chicken breast on day 5 of the liquid diet. I had my pre-op testing yesterday and I'm starting to get a little nervous. This has been a very long process so I'm excited to be on the other side.

    Fair Life Milk - thoughts?

My NUT said big thumbs up for the skim white milk big NO TO THE CHOCOLATE!

What were you approved for? What were the circumstances surrounding your approval?
  8. Can you post an average food day? It may help others understand better what your protein vs carb/ sugar intake is. How many grams of protein are you getting in each day?
  9. My surgery is May 11. I am 1 week in to the liquid diet and finding that the busier I am the less I think about it but man I am hungry. I had my pre-op testing today and everything seems clear for next Monday. I'm nervous but excited about the next steps. I was scheduled back in October and the surgery fell through at the last minute so I am not going to believe it until I'm on the or table.
  10. I currently use My Fitness Pal to track my food but I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a different WLS specific app that helps track the timing of food and water intake? I am scheduled for surgery on May 11 and trying to prepare as best as I can for the changes.
  11. I am still pre-op but I will be traveling on a family vacation about 6 wks after surgey. Wondering how the average person is feeling 6 wks out from rny?

    Traveling at 6wks out.

We will be driving (only a couple of hrs) to cape cod. We rent a house so meal prep should be fine bc I can bring whatever I need. I was more concerned about pain or being tired still. We will be putting in a lot of beach time but I am hoping I can still ride my bike on the bike trail and do plenty of walking.
  13. I am still pre-op but making a serious effort to restructure my eating to a protein forward diet before surgery. One of the tricks I have found is to add unflavored protein into other foods (I use unjury unflavored and it is basically tasteless). I also incorporate plain Greek yogurt into my protein shakes to give it a protein boost.
  14. I was scheduled to have RNY surgey back in October and days before surgery it was cancelled due to some unusual test results. I have severe GERD and therefore RNY was presented as my only option. I am now seeing a new surgeon and at my first apt he suggested that the sleeve might be a possibility but he wanted to consult with my GI specialist and he said we could always revise to RNY if needed. I really do not want to have surgery twice so I am curious to hear from those who have had revisions from sleeve to bypass what the reason was.

    Gastric Bypass Approval

HollieSommerville, any chance you are from Sommerville, MA? I am on the north shore and if so wondering which hospital/surgeon.
  16. I am in the process of completing all of my pre op requirements for RNY and I am curious about the real life total weight loss from those who have had surgery at least one year ago. The docs keep suggesting that it is expected that an RNY patient will loose 70% of their excess weight but in all of the posts I've read it seems like those on maintnence seem to have lost more than 70%. I know every body is different and has different results but just looking to hear people's experiences.
  17. I saw my NUT and psych yesterday and began my 2+ weeks pre-op diet. During psych visit t He asked me what my weight loss goal was which is 90lbs. I am 5'7 currently at 240 and would like to be about 150. He suggested that his expected weight loss given my stats would only be between 55-65 lbs bringing me down to between 180-190. I am having RNY. I know everyone has a different loss rate/pattern but wondering if anyone in the 5'7 height range can share their weight loss experiences. I want to keep my expectations realistic but I also want to achieve the best goals I can.

I use MFP and fit bit too. I also use the fitbit scale (aria) and all three sync together and give me a very clear picture of my food, exercise, and weight trends. Highly suggest!

    Movement Trackers

I had the Jawbone UP and had so many issues with it I bought the fitbit flex and I love it. If you have a smartphone you can see your progress all day. I also use the fitbit Aria scale and all of the data sinks together and is so helpful.
  21. This might seem like a silly question but... I have seen many posts about issues with incision at the "drain" site. Just wondering is having a drain a standard part of the rny surgery?
  22. I am part of GIC too but I have Harvard pilgrim ppo. I had my approval w/in 24hrs.

    Heartburn and indigestion

This is so interesting to me because my. Surgeon refused any option but rny because of my reflux issues. I was told that sleeve has significant risk of making acid worse or creating reflux issues when there were none prior. I don't know much about revision but it seems I have seen people mention revision to rny for this reason.

    Heartburn and indigestion

Just curious, Did you have sleeve or bypass? Did you have any acid issues before surgery?
  25. I have GERD and sleeve was not an option for me because of it. From what I have read and after discussion with surgeon I understand that the sleeve can worsen any reflux issues that are already present and can cause reflux issues when there were none. The other difference i have read a lot about is type 2 diabetes and a clearer path for coming off meds with the bypass, though I have a friend who just had sleeve and was off insulin the day after surgery. Both surgeries have different risks/benefits and hopefully your surgeon can guide you in the right direction.
