    Rumbling in the Bronx!

I don't know that there is any way past it. Our tummies have always made noises when digesting food and beverages, but the volume increased now that our tummies are smaller. I don't know if it will ever stop. Mine tummy makes noise after drinking and eating. Yes, it is loud enough for others to hear. Some folks think it is gas and that chewing some Tums might help, but that doesn't work for me.
  2. Enjoying my new strength & cardio routine, but not the increased weight on the scale. I know why that happens when doing strength training so I'm trying to not let it affect my psyche. NSV - Toning muscle and losing inches!! Yeehaw!!

Awesome job...keep up the good work! Even though you may not see it in pounds, you should see it in your clothes and how they fit!

Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! @CanyonBaby, @ShrinkingPeach, @Djmohr -- I felt like I needed to ramp up what I had been doing at the gym so I met with a trainer a week ago last Thursday. The routine is a bit more intense, but very doable for me despite my normal chronic pain and limitations. Good thing I like exercising - grins......

    Portable snacks?

My favorite food items to keep on hand are (not in any particular order): Beef jerky - Simm's from Aldi's (if you have one near you) Protein bars Boiled eggs Turkey or ham roll-ups Peanut Butter (get some individuals for easy transport) cheese sticks, Babybels, or measure out 1 oz. pieces of the cheese of your choice and put in a snack bag Protein shake, premade (with unjury, you can make your shakes a day ahead per Unjury dietitian). I've been known to drink them 2 days after making and they've been fine.) Nuts. My favorites are cashews and almonds. Celery filled with flavored cream cheese or pimento cheese (not high protein, but filling).

How do I hoist these girls up!?

Lane Bryant Cacique Balconette is doing the trick for me. My girls have NEVER been perky, but after losing 60 lbs. they weren't as robust as before (no pun intended). I love the Cacique bras and seamless panties. Wait for one of their really good sales. If you can get an associate who knows how to properly fit you in a new bra, you'll be in great shape. I believe all associates have been training in fitting for bras. I had an excellent idea of what size I was going to need when I last shopped there. The unfortunate thing was they quit carrying the style I had been wearing for about 2-3 years (back smoother), so the associate recommended the Balconette. The girls and I are happy now.......so is my hubby

Unjury - Sample Pack Purchase Review

I've been using the unjury powders for over a year now; started about 6 months pre-surgery. I love them! And the customer service has been great!!! Just yesterday I received my autoship order to which I had added 2 containers of the PB2. Looking forward to trying the PB2 because I've heard so much about it. The chicken Soup option is a lifesaver for lunch at work a lot of times. Good luck on your journey!!!
  6. I experience that sometimes, too. I call it "feeling swimmy headed." When I stand up from a seated position, I pause before taking that first step. It doesn't happen often, but considering I sit at a desk all day, I am very careful when I have that sensation. Don't know why it happens - BP? Blood sugar? Not enough fluids? Inner ear issue? PCP hasn't been able to determine a cause.
  7. Wearing WHITE slacks today for work.....with a very colorful jacket and orange shell underneath. And feeling great about my NEW outfit!! I love colorful clothes and am so very tired of always wearing black slacks to work, even tho I pair them with a variety of colorful tops and jackets.. My co-workers and I joke about black slacks being our corporate uniform (we work in Administration at a hospital). It's great getting out of the black rut!!!! Now to on to getting to Onederland!!! So very close......

    Blood pressure after

Also came off the Metformin for diabetes immediately and have not restarted any arthritis meds yet - I'm surprised I don't hurt anymore than what I do right now. Granted, with 60 lbs. lost, they say there's less inflammation in the body and less stress on the joints and that could explain my decreased pain level. However, night pain is the worse so I do take pain medication at bedtime so I can get through the night.

    Blood pressure after

I had to stop my HBP meds prior to surgery, and have not gone back on them. Even with the diastolic dysfunction, my BP has been in a good range sense surgery. Next appointment with PCP is mid-July and we'll be discussing this and the triglycerides and low HDL again after he sees my next set of blood work.

    Just sharing

I third @@Miss Mac 's cautions. Isn't the feeling wonderful as the pounds keep coming off and clothes fit better, and even better-get too big for you? You are obviously on the right track with your weight loss. But please use good judgement about exercise and eating/drinking while your body is steal healing from surgery. When I viewed a gastric sleeve surgery on YouTube before having my surgery, it was an eye opener as to what exactly would be going on inside me during surgery; not to mention that my surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia I did not know I had. It will be months before your body is completely healed. It would be wise not to push the envelope on anything for awhile. I would hate to see you have any setbacks in your recovery and your progress. Good luck to you on your journey!!! Know that your BP buddies are here to help, support, and encourage you. And be sure check with your surgeon's office when you have questions -- that's what you're paying them for post-surgery.

    Tomato Soup ?

I love the unjury products!! So much so that I'm now on the autoship program I keep a container of the chicken soup at work for lunches, along with a container of vanilla. Even though the 140 deg. max. temp for the Water isn't as hot as I would like my soup, it is still very doable. I add just a dash of chicken bouillon to it for more chicken flavor. I inadvertently got my water too hot one day and the whey did clump. It did not change the taste, but the texture was weird feeling in my mouth. You could also experiment with hot sauce or other seasonings added and such to help break up any boredom. The chicken soup was a life saver for me during my 2 week pre-op liquids. It's so easy to tired of all the sweet Protein beverages and bars. I also kept some of the tomato soup Protein Powder around which I got from my surgeon's office....HealthWise is the brand, I believe.
  13. I also use the unjury powders - love the way they taste! I love the chicken Soup option and keep a container at work. You just have to be careful that the Water temperature does not exceed 140 deg. No, that's not as hot as I would like my regular soup, but for lunch at work, I can live with the 140 deg. I keep a thermometer at my desk so that I don't have to guess. I did get the water too hot once which caused the whey to clump; the taste did not change, but the clumpy whey looked weird and felt weird in my mouth. I do mix in a touch of chicken bouillon just because. Another good thing about Unjury, if you don't like it, you can return it.

How accurate is your calorie counting?

I track my food intake via SparkPeople on a daily basis. It's the only way I can be fairly certain that I'm getting the Protein grams recommended by my NUT and surgeon and keeping my calories within range. My husband and I have been weighing and measuring our foods for years as he is an insulin dependent diabetic who figures his insulin dose based on a carb to insulin ratio calculation, so weighing and measuring is old hat for me. For the home recipes, I enter the recipe in the SparkPeople recipe calculator and let it figure the nutritional information for me. I do not feel the need to carry a measuring cup to restaurants because I eat so little now during a meal. In fact, we now order only one entree and share. Even if the numbers aren’t exact for all food tracked, I at least have a very good idea which way I'm headed.
  15. For the past few weeks, I've had a hankering for a peanut butter cup, and have managed to resist buying any every time I've gone shopping. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate is a favorite even though I'm not a choco-holic. Recently I've learned about PB2 powder and have found a recipe on Unjury that just might satisfy this craving and still have more protein and good stuff than bad stuff. I just ordered some PB2 to try. Will let you know how the peanut butter cups turn out.

Love PB2. The chocolate is a nice treat when my sweet tooth nags at me. Love either on on apples or celery as well as in a smoothy

  16. I can recommend the unjury unflavored Protein powder. I tend to mix it with things like skim milk and flavored drink beverages. I do love all the Unjury powders! Here's a link which if you'll scroll to the bottom, you can see the nutritional label for this powder. http://www.unjury.com/unflavored-protein-container

    When will the gas end?

Well, what can I say, my new tummy makes noise anytime I eat or drink something and I'm 7 months out from surgery. The noises have not been gas in my case. My surgeon said these sounds are normal. I just take it in stride and should anyone be around me when it happens, I just explain that it is my new, smaller tummy giving the concert.Yes, it's embarrasing at times, humorous at other times. Check out the information in the link below. And, as always, you can check with your surgeon. http://www.healthline.com/health/abdominal-sounds#Causes2

    Repeatedly overeating

I have not thrown up either, but have made myself miserable a few times by eating a bit too much - like the last 2-3 bites which can take you instantly from satisfied to miserable.
  20. I do well with my meal plan most days, but then there are times when I eat just a bite or two too many and wish I could undo what I just did. Now is one of those times -- a few too many cashews. I know the misery will pass, but until then......Yuck!

Were they the salted type? The salt gets me every time...I am a salt-aholic....love salt, always have, and it is my nemesis. So I always over-do with salty-crunchy stuff...have to stay away from it! HAVE TO!

    3. MrsSugarbabe

      MrsSugarbabe

@CanyonBaby ...... yes, they were salted cashews. I, too, am a salt-aholic, always have been. And it is the salty-crunchy stuff that calls my name, esp. the beef jerky. I'm working on saying "NO" to those things that I've not planned into my day. Let's face it, besides the additional calories, carbs, etc., the additional salt isn't helping with the water retention issue.

    Occasional indulging!

@@Babbs -- You're not a bore!! You've gained wisdom on your journey. One phrase I've heard in a variety of places over the years is "Eat to Live. Don't Live to Eat." (Or some variation on that theme.) food is fuel for our bodies. I'm working on not thinking of food as a "reward" or a "treat," but a necessity for a healthy body and strive to make wise choices within the parameters given my by surgeon and NUT. It does take work, a lot of work.
  22. I'm with @@Babbs on this one. My heart is a muscle which needs to be exercised, and that can't be done from behind a desk or in front of a TV. I choose to exercise my entire body so I can be healthier physically, and that combined with making smart food choices will help keep me healthier for years to come.

    Need pre op shake recipes

I use unjury Protein powder, have since 6 months prior to surgery and still incorporate 1-2 shakes into my day. A favorite flavor option: SF classic orange drink, a little bit of SF pineapple Crush mixed with Water and 1-2 servings of vanilla powder, depending on how much water you use. I love Orange Pineapple anything! Vanilla powder, skim milk, and Torani SF Black Cherry syrup-1-2 pumps. Also, 1/2 chocolate powder, 1/2 vanilla powder, 8 oz. skim milk, 2-4 ozs. brewed coffee, chilled. MOCHA Vanilla powder, SF strawberry Crush, 16 oz. water. Chocolate powder and skim milk. Vanilla and banana extract. Vanilla and crushed fresh strawberries w/a little strawberry extract. And, if you're tired of sweet shakes, get some Unjury chicken Soup Protein Powder. Watch the water temp when preparing and add just a touch of chicken bouillon.
  24. Isn't it interesting what we are learning about ourselves post surgery and as we adjust to life with a new tummy? I was afraid that my tastes would change and that maybe I wouldn't like my unjury Protein shakes anymore, or that spicy Chinese food would not taste good or that my new tummy wouldn't like it, or that I couldn't enjoy my favorite salads anymore. Fortunately for me, I still like my Unjury shakes, spicy Chinese (NO rice) does not upset my tummy and I can eat my favorite salads although it takes me at least 2 meals to eat a whole one (i.e. strawberry fields from Wendy's). Of course, with any solid foods my typical serving size is about 1/2 cup (yes, I measure), and a few things a little bit more. Still learning to navigate some of the portions/boundaries. Definitely a learning process. Sometimes just two bites of something is all that is needed to satisfy my taste for a particular food.
