    just banded!

Longhorn, how was your second day? I hope you felt better! Sumz30, congrats on your clothes feeling looser! That is definately an incentive!

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?

Congratulations Bob on your great weight loss. You must already feel so much better. Keep up the good work. My banding date is Dec 27th and I know I have to start my protein liquid diet 10 days before the surgery so I'm working on eating better now and actually practicing the protein liquid diet except I'm having a meal at night, which that will have to change that to all protein very soon. The doctor didn't say how much I have to lose B4 the surgery but he said if I don't do the liquid diet for 10 days he won't operate and he said no cheating. I'm sure he'll know when he weighs me. Does it get easier every day? You've done it for a while now. I give you a lot of credit. Have a super day! Stevie

    just banded!

I'm very sorry to hear you had a tough first day yesterday back at work. You also teach at night? It's strange how things have a way of happening sometimes. It's definately not funny you locked your keys in the car - you must have been so tired waiting, but it forced you to go home and get some rest. That would have been a lot to handle after working all day! I give you a lot of credit for trying. What type of work do you do during the day? I hope you get to sit a lot. I hope things will get better now for you as your week progresses at work and you get more rest at night. Don't overdo it. Going back to work has got to be the tougest thing. Take care.

    just banded!

One of the good things at our family Xmas party is everyone is pretty much everywhere, no one really sits down for long, so i'll have to move around more. I can still be sociable with a glass of Chrystalite, that's what I'll have to bring. Longhorn, good luck with starting work, It's only been 7 days for you. If you get tired, maybe walking around may make you feel better. Get some extra oxygen, go outside for a few minutes? Drink an extra protein drink? Wow sumz30, I can't imagine flying after surgery and all that walking at the airport. Glad to hear you're home now so you can rest - I guess we do what we need to do.

    just banded!

The doctor's office told me the doctor likes to do the surgeries on tuesdays and thursdays only and i'm scheduled for Dec. 27th!!!! (my choice - because it's two slow weeks for me at work...sales, yup!) but now what that means is that I will be doing all liquid diet for 10 days prior to this date and it will be right through Christmas! That should be quite a challenge since we have our big family gathering on Xmas Eve! I will have to figure out what to be sipping on all night without anyone noticing I'm not eating - anyone have any ideas? maybe jello? that might be a little weird because who eats jello at a party! but do I have a choice? The only ones that will know about the surgery is my husband and closest friend. I am not telling anyone else, not my kids, not my parents or sisters & their family. Maybe later I will probably tell them if I start to lose a lot of weight which is why I'm getting banded. So I'm excited!

    I'm done...I made it

Hi Patty, You were just banded on the first and already you've lost 37lbs! that's awesome! did you lose it before the surgery? Can I ask you how you did it? I'm getting banded probably in the beginning of January and I've been trying to set myself up to eat better now that I've had all the testings etc. - For some reason the past few days I thought I was eating as if every minute of the day was my last supper - what mental frame I was in! Today I'm waking up and realizing I'm going to gain weight if I keep this up and I don't want to feel worse than I already feel as being so overweight and feeling so bloated. I would love to hear how everyone loses so much before their surgery - what do you eat? I am making a chicken breast, no skin/vegie soup right now as we speak so I can eat it all night if I get uncontrollable hungry horrors!

    New and feeling Lost!!

You really need to call your insurance company instead of trying to find out what we think - they have the answers for you. I called mine right away and they were very nice and explained everything to me and all the requirements. BC is a great one. I have BC MA and they are paying 100%.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?

Will have to do 10 days of liquids before surgery date. I'm worried also like everyone else, but if I want the surgery I'll have to abide to the doctor's rule and I also understand it's very important for me too. It'll be good to cleanse my body anyways, I know it'll make me feel good.

    I'm done...I made it

Thank you Longhorn I'll find out if it works now... and hope you all feel better soon after being banded.

    I'm done...I made it

I have tried twice to "practice" doing the liquid diet because I have to do it for 10 days before surgery. I have not been able to stick to it. Maybe it will be different when I have no choice. I seem to be eating more right now too, I don't know if it's nerves or because I know later I won't be able to eat. Anyone go thru this?

    I'm done...I made it

Can someone help me get the slider onto my messages? I made it but it won't show up. Thanks.

    I'm done...I made it

Yes congratulations! Keep on smiling, I will be getting banded in January '08! They say it's not an emergency, I wish I was already banded, but I know I have to be patient. Best wishes to an easy and quick recovery! Take good care, Stevie

    It's getting closer!

Bobbi, How are you feeling? It's been 4 days since your banding. I am totally with you there. Staying positive is how I feel too about everything. I'm 53 1/2 and it's a new and good journey for me to take on. I need to feel good physically and I know it will do wonders for me mentally also even though I can pretty much keep in good spirits most of the time. I've been through all of the required testings and we're now waiting for results to get to the surgeon's office. They will then give it to the insurance co. (which we know already they will cover) and then the date will be determined. I'm very excited because this is going to help me with the overeating and I am ready to make a complete change in my food choices with the lapband's help. I am hoping for a date right after January 5th, anytime after that. I have a busy season at work with the holiday coming up, sales... and my daughter just told me she's graduating Jan. 4th 08 from cosmetology school and she expects us there and we want to be there. The only one who knows I'm getting this procedure done is my husband and my closest friend. No one else and I don't plan on telling anyone cause my mind has been made up and I don't want to hear what everyone has to say. This is a very personal decision I have made. Best wishes to you for an easy and quick recovery. Stevie

    October 07 Exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!

"the spin class it's a killer. If you have been working out though it isn't that bad. " I haven't been working out (I am out of shape) but I'm not a weakling so I should be able to catch up so not to be out of breath! This is the beginning for me. I want to try spinning anyways. I'll do what I can. If I find it too difficult I'll have to choose a beginner class or begin just doing the treadmill for a while until the next spinner class begins. I can't wait to be able to say I feel better physically. I can tell that exercising makes you all feel great, you sound very energetic and addicted, that's a nice feeling I'm aiming for! I'm ready for tomorrow!
  16. thundandlight

    Spinning class?

How long would you say to wait on attending the spinning class after surgery since it's intense? I haven't had surgery yet (Dec.) but working on planning my new schedule once I have it. The Y has it twice a week where I live. The nutritionist told me if I don't exercise I won't lose the 2lbs a week I want to lose and it's important to tone while losing. I'm so excited I wish I was being banded tomorrow!

    October 07 Exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have trouble starting to exercise because of your starting weight? I in the process of completing my app'ts so I can get the ins. to approve the surgery and we're estimating sometimes mid to end Dec. I am 5'4" at 245 and have the fear of going out to walk because I know I'll be out of breath and afraid people driving by will think I'm so fat! This has been a fear for mine for a long time, resulting in no exercise. I feel awful physically. My dh got me a membership at the Y and I dont go. My Nutionistist told me to start now, 10 mins at a time. I still have the fear to go out looking the way I do. Am I the only one that feels this way? Any recommendations?
  20. Opps, sorry, I thought I lost the first post so I quickly reposted! oh well! Stevie
  21. I think that's great! I'm going to myself "push" for all the app'ts so mine will come faster too. Today was my first "real" doctor visit and I signed papers, yeah! He said I was a good candidate for it and he's got me on my way for the surgery! Yeah! I'm fat! But not for long. I can't wait to feel good again. I already have my nutrionist app't next monday the 22nd and I plan on getting everything else schedule soon. The dr thinks I'll have it beg. of Jan 08. I hope sooner if I can work it out. I'm ready! I need to ask, is it hard to do all clear liquids? I have to do this at least 10 days prior to the operation. I've never done it before but I think it will make me feel better, physically and mentally. I need to stop the need to overeat like I do now. Thanks for all your info. Stevie I'm a 53 yr old female, married with a husband who's supportive and I weigh 246! Need to lose 115 lbs. I live in Massachusetts.
  22. Amy, You have a lot to be proud of!!!! That's what I call a real go-getter!!! I had my first visit today and it went great. I'm also going to "push" for all my appointments like you are. Already I have the Nutritionist next Monday the 22nd, I've already put the call in for the Psychologist and will call again tomorrow and am waiting for the sleep apnea test, they're supposed to call me. I have to find out how soon I have to have all the tests (blood), my doctor's office told me I was supposed to have it no more than a month from my surgery app't, which I don't have right now. I can't wait. I'm like you, the sooner the better. The surgeon expects me to have it the beginning of January. I'm going to do everything in my power to get it maybe before Xmas? I don't know if it's doable. It would be strange doing the liquids around the holidays but I don't care. I wanted to ask you. How did you find doing the liquids 10 days before the surgery? that's if you were asked to do it. that's what I have to do. Is it hard? I've never done it. I'm sure it'll make me feel better though. I'm eating so much right now, it's pathetic. I was thinking about starting the liquid diet next week, now that I don't have to worry about getting the procedure, the doctor said I will have it, I was the right candidate for it. Ya, I'm fat, how wonderful!!! hehe. Thank you for your input. That was nice. Stevie
  23. Tomorrow's my first doctor visit. I've already been to the hour informational seminar the surgeon scheduled. The doctor told us it will take appx. 3 months before we have the lapband procedure. We have to attend doctor's visits, nutritionist app'ts, spychologists app't and a few tests among them is the sleep Apnea test. The doctors I'm going to do all their own pre and post-operative care. I was already given a "BioEnteriecs" LAP-BAND System PATIENT INFORMATION PROFILE that I filled out, it's about 10 pages, and really everything about me. I will post tomorrow after my first doctor's meeting to share the information for the ones that haven't yet done the initial meeting or are thinking about going thru with it. I have studied and studied all the materials, including the actual www.LAPBAND.com site. Anyone thinking about it should definately print out the entire site, I did, and I'm really glad I did. This way you can take it with you anywhere when you have time and study it.
  24. My first consult is scheduled tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 15th. I'm extremely excited. It is great to read what you all have to say. Does anyone know what the doctor does the first visit besides weighing in?
