Hello everyone! I had gastric bypass on April 2nd, 2014. I was self pay so the whole process took just about a month from initial visit to going under the knife. During that time I read a lot on the process and tried to mentally prepare myself for the monumental event I was about to undertake. No amount of preparation could have got me ready for this journey I have begun. It has been the most difficult thing I've ever done and there are days when my head screams for the days when I could rely on my old addictions. But I look at the pain I felt everyday before my surgery and know the new hardships are worth it and that I have to be successful if I want to live healthy and strong. I have lost 76 pounds in just shy of four months and I am eager to lose more. I have had problems with mood since the surgery as well as problems with falling back to old habits. It's been a slow process building up exercise and getting my alloted protein in has been difficult as well. I truly admire those individuals who follow the weight loss guidelines perfectly and are exercising machines. I need advice from anyone who will give it to me as it seems my mind is my worst enemy at times. I'd love tips on how to get more active, healthy food ideas, and ways to combat the lies my head tells me. Excited to go through these forums and happy to meet fellow bariatric patients.

Wow! This is such great information! I just recently started using an app to keep track of my foods and it is helping immensly. I knew I wasn't getting enough protein but now I know I'm not for sure. I generally only am getting 40-50g. It is good to hear that protein will help me stop being so hungry all the time. It's like I go through phases where I'm more hungry and times when I'm not but combating that with protein, and water is great to know. As for calories I typically get about 600-800 in a day. Is that too much? I'm glad that 5 oz. doesn't seem like too much since I was very worried about that and I'm glad to have what my doctor said confirmed that it's unlikely that I'm stretching my pouch. I also didn't know that you could take too long to eat. I never have that problem as I tend to eat too fast (10-15 minutes) and I'm trying to stop this bad habit. It used to make me sick when I ate fast but now it just can be uncomfortable which reminds me to slow down. Thanks for all of the great help!

Hello everyone! I had my surgery April 2nd, 2014. So I'm about 3 months d 3 weeks out. I've been trying to adhere to my guidelines but get worried that I'm messing up often as I'm struggling with my addiction to food. I find that I've started getting hungry in the last month which is really frustrating because in the beginning I wasn't hungry and I could tell when I was having head hunger. Now it's hard to differentiate. When I eat I can comfortably eat about 5 oz or maybe slightly more. Is this too much at my stage? Have I stretched my pouch out? I try to just measure out 4 oz for each meal to be safe, though sometimes I still feel slightly hungry. I rarely get a full pouch feeling which I used to get often in the beginning month or so. So I'm worried my pouch might be stretched. My doctor said this wouldn't be an issue at my stage, but I worry since 5 oz seems like too much. Thanks!
