    Tomorrow (10/15) is the day!

I'm too nervous to sleep! I am October 15th as well! I'm on edge right now! Gotta be at the hospital in 6 hours! Hope everything goes wonderfully for you! See you on the "loser's bench"!

    October 2014

I have tried the various Syntrax Nectars. Ordered two samplers. Love the fruity flavors. I have also had the Premier Protein in chocolate. Like it a lot. I hope I still like just about all of them after surgery. I will choke them down, regardless of whether I still like them or not. Thanks to those of you who suggested getting samples. Great idea! But the best tasting so far, to me, besides the unflavored variety, is the Chocolate Splendor flavor by Unjury.

    Who Are You?

You could be my "twin"! I don't share the same hobbies, but I read this post, and I said, "Wow!" I, too have been in the same field since graduation, and I'm 45 and single. Good luck to you. I'm scheduled for October 15.

    October Surgery Date

I'm traveling to "Who Dat Land", aka Louisiana, this weekend, and grabbing my mother who is really coming up here to watch season 4 of Game of Thrones, and not to take care of me, as she says. I've created a GOT junkie! Ha! Ha! I've cleaned my house, shopped for "groceries", and started a pre-op diet of sorts. I have to lose 5 pounds before surgery, so...I'll be good while I'm in Louisiana. No food funerals. It still hasn't hit me yet because the process happened pretty fast. I am ready to look good again, feel good again, and get out and do the social activities I'd avoided once the weight started creeping on. I'm calm...for now. I've also ordered sample packs of all the Protein samples out there, and tried those; got my Vitamins, arranged for my dog to go to his girlfriend's house for a week, got the hospital bag packed...just waiting. One week and counting! Well wishes, speedy recovery, and awesome success to all who are on this journey! I'll check in again on the morning of the 15th. PEACE!!!

    October Surgery Date

Great stats idea! I am going to do it the day before surgery. I'll also post a "before" pic. Like you, I'm 5'2" as well! My surgery is on October 15.

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

October 15! Memphis, TN. I got my date on this past Wednesday. Hard to believe it's in less than two weeks. Started this journey on May 8 and five short months later - WOW! Can't believe it!! Still in shock!
  7. I just ordered and received a bunch of the Syntrax Nectars sample packets from Bariatric Pantry. Tried Caribbean Cooler today, and OMG! Delicious!! Really quick delivery. Premier Protein was my favorite until I tasted the chocolate Unjury. Delicious chocolate flavor, and the unflavored blends well without a strong smell or taste.

I got my date yesterday! October 15! I cannot believe it's in less than two weeks! Woooo-weee! This journey started 5 months ago. I know some wait longer, but I'm shocked that they date is already here! I have no pre-op diet, just liquids on the day before surgery. Wow! :-)

    October Surgery Date

    Who Are You?

Me: 45 year-old who started getting fat at 41! Yep...gained 41 plus pounds after moving back to Memphis, and I could not stand myself. Kept losing and gaining the same 20 pounds, and some of its friends. Body is getting older - joints, feet hurt after attempts to exercise. Prednisone & cortisone shots galore! I also did not recognize myself anymore. The extra weight started causing other, more mortifying changes with my body, and it was literally freaking out hormonally. Just yuck! It was time to push the plate of barbecue away, and say no to that third specialty martini. Time to stop the fat and deterioration in its tracks, reevaluate my life and career, and grab my health back!

An EGD is not needed for approval. I had mine on 9/22, weeks after I was approved. If your surgeon does not require one - run!

Paperwork sent in to insurance on August 27. BCBS-Federal approved me officially on 9/2. I received an email from BCBS Federal on 9/4 about the approval. I was notified by my surgeon's office on 9/9. Good luck to you!

    Keeping it a secret

I got approved on Tuesday, and I'll be darned if I tell anybody! Frankly, it's nobody's business but mine! Back in April, I merely mentioned WLS, and oh-my-gosh!!! You'd have sworn I'd said I was thinking about join a terrorist organization the way they reacted! "Girl, why? You're not even that big!" and "I don't want you to do that!" Well...I started the process, and BOOM! Approved. Didn't discuss it with them any further. And won't! As for my co-workers...I will disappear for weeks, and no one will know why, just that I'm having surgery. If they try to ask me any particulars - and they won't because they are my coworkers & not my friends - I'll quote policy reminding them that they are out of order for even asking me about my personal business. They'll leave me alone quickly!

    In the waiting stage now...

No, I'm living in Tennessee now. I was born and raised in Louisiana, near Lafayette. No matter where I am, I'm a WHO DAT 4 LYFE!!

    Stats when you were approved

Approved today! :-) Height: 5'2"; Weight at initial appointment: 215 pounds; BMI: 39.3; Age: 43. Comorbities: very high blood pressure. Very iffy. Didn't think I'd be approved. I also logged into my Blue Patient Portal and looked at it to see all examinations and treatments I'd had while with my plan. I actually had a documented history of weight gain, and various treatments/weight loss plans to include HCG, the nasal spray, listed in my patient treatment timeline (yes, I had a really drug-happy PCP before she relocated). So BCBS knew I was getting fat because each obesity related appointment was clearly documented!

    In the waiting stage now...

Approved! Got the "official" call today, but I've known since yesterday, because I'd emailed BCBS FEP on Sunday night and got a reply on Monday morning. They'd approved me on 9/2/14, and sent out letters to myself and my surgeon. So, realistically, it was 7-8 business days. Next bloodwork, labs, and EGD. Looking at October surgery date if all goes well.

    Told my coworkers

I'm not telling any of my coworkers anything. Frankly, it's none of their business. I don't consider my coworkers as my friends, and never will. If someone does try to ask me anything, I will be as direct as I can in letting them know it is none of their business, and will remind that person that he or she does not have the right to ask me about my personal business. That'll get them running away and quick!

Congratulations to you, K*L*L! Best wishes for a successful surgery, speedy recovery, and healthy weight loss!

    In the waiting stage now...

My paperwork was submitted to my insurance company on Wednesday. I have been trying to stay busy to keep my mind off it. My house has never been so clean and organized! :-)) I was told 2-6 weeks, but I see on these threads (I'm a real lurker, only 5 posts so far -ha!) that BCBS Federal took as little as five business days. I'm worried too, because my BMI was slightly below 40, and I have one co morbidity, (high blood pressure) so I'm trying to keep it together before I go totally bonkers. Just want an answer so I'll know how to proceed with the rest of my life. :-) Good luck to all who are waiting for approval!

    Stats when you were approved

Following. O_O I'm curious, too. My requirements are met, and, per Dr. Woodman's office, my paperwork will be sent to my insurance company in the coming week!

    ISO Low BMI Sleeve Mentor

Wow! I read each post with awe, because, except for minimal differences here and there (age, BMI), these posts are ME!! My PCP finally sent my letter and my 3-month supervised diet to the surgeon today, and according to them, my packet will be sent to my insurance company, BCBS Federal, next week. With all the waiting, I can't even let myself get too excited. My blood pressure will be through the roof! It's already "too damn high"! I'm worried I'll be denied, with a BMI of 39.1 and consistently HBP for the past three years...we will see...Congratulations and best wishes to all who have been approved.
  24. True...waiting on my PCP to decide when she wants to write and fax my letter and other paperwork to the surgeon's office. I thought I could get the letter the day I completed my 3 month supervised weight loss, but it has been a week and a half, and if was told to contact her office on Monday. Big SIGH! SIGH again. It has been a big secret - only three people know what I've been doing. Living in a kind of limbo.

I think I'm in big trouble

I am new to this site. I go for my last supervised weigh in on 08/07/14, so we have something in common. I was also required to do 3 months' supervised weight loss (BCBS Federal). However, my starting BMI was 39.7 and I have one co-morbidity - very high blood pressure over a three year period- so I didn't really try to lose a whole lot of weight, because I fear denial. Over two and a half months, I've seriously lost four pounds. From what I've been reading, these insurance companies are so fickle, and deny you for every little thing. I'm trying not to mess with my BMI. It's tricky to know what to do and what not to do. I'll be submitted for approval shortly after that time. But good luck to you.
