Hello all! I am having surgery on October 14th with Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Mexico. I have just learned that I will be making the trip alone. This saddens and terrifies me. I have wanted this for so long and I am not backing out now. I was wondering if anyone out there is having surgery the same day with the same surgeon. Or maybe others who have gone before me could give me tips and/or pointers? Thanks in advance. Anything will help....

Thank you. My son may go. He's 17..... We're working on getting his passport

Hey guys, just learned that I will be making the trip to Mexico for my Gastric Sleeve by myself. I'm really sad and scared. Is anyone else out there going that same day? Maybe others that have already gone there and had the surgery, do you have any tips or advice? I refuse to back out now, I've been wanting this for forever. Sigh. I'm sure it will work out. -
Getting cold feet about my surgery on Tuesday!
Nurselori replied to Thinthoughts's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Kedwards 1950, I share the same concerns. I am having my surgery in Mexico and from what I've read on here, the surgeon I'm using doesn't use any strong pain meds. I'm the biggest sissy ever. Also, it's looking as if I will be making the journey alone. I'm scared to death at this point. Originally my husband was going to go but now he's not going. I'm not going to back out as I've wanted this for such a long time..... -

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

I'm Lori and I've been an RN for 14 years. 10 years ER and 4 years urgent Care. I finished my BSN in 2012 and tomorrow I start FNP school. I'm not currently working. I had back surgery-3 level lumbar fusion and suffered complications causing the surgery to have to be completely re-done 10 days later. I walked with a walker for 6 months. I'm doing better these days but have gained a lot of weight due to physical inactivity since the back surgeries. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for October 14th and I couldn't be more excited. I'm hoping I will be able to lose weight and alleviate some pain. I'm scared about keeping up with school while going through sleeve surgery. Heck, I'm also scared about school for the obvious back issue reason and wonder daily if I will be able to do the job physically. The sleeve is my hope. October 14th can't come quick enough!!!!! -
Well I'm glad it's done and over with!!! Sounds positively annoying! At least you are still on track and it's not going to slow you down for surgery. Stinks that it'll be a week for the results. Anyway, I'm glad you're doing well and getting closer to surgery everyday!!

Congrats!! Nice to meet you...my surgery is October 14th. It's neat to have someone else on here with a surgery date close to mine!

Mental vs. Physical Disconnect
Nurselori replied to matt1912's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Another quick thought....if you had to have your leg amputated, it would no doubt take some serious time to adjust to that change in appearance, right? Same with major weight loss....big, major change in appearance as well. -
Mental vs. Physical Disconnect
Nurselori replied to matt1912's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
MATT1912, what you're experiencing is often referred to as "phantom fat". It's actually very common but can take awhile to get over. It's like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. Often we are subconsciously still overwhelmed about our former weight problems and probably somewhat afraid we will regain the weight. Other people your weight never give it much thought because they've not been obese. I mean, if you and one of your co-workers,for example, weighed the same but he had been that size most of his life.....then he hasn't had to go through the journey you have AND he's had years to be accustomed to his weight. You need to find someway to condition yourself emotionally. Perhaps putting your before and after pics on you fridge or in your wallet where you will see the transformation often. Or get out some of your old "fat" clothes and compare on a regular basis. Be proud of all you've accomplished. Give yourself credit, clearly you've had to work hard to make this transformation. It's time to let go of the old Matt. He's not coming back I recently read about this topic in an article by a woman named Jacquelin Stenson when doing some WLS research. I'm having my surgery (sleeve) October 14th. Good luck to ya Matt.... -
That's great news! I am very nervous too. My surgery is October 14th. The good news is that you're not alone. There are tons of people on here that have been through everything we are going through and are really great about answering our questions and cheering us on. We're all in this together!!! We're gonna do great, we have bright futures ahead of us

Wow! I am really impressed. Looks great!!!!!!

Thinking of Gastric Sleeve in Mexico!
Nurselori replied to mom2bubsnboo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hey I just wanted you to know that I recently sent for my passport, paid for "expedited" and got it back in a week!!!!! I'm sure there are a lot of variables but hopefully your passport will come quickly too! -
That is wonderful news! Glad to here that it went smoothly and you're feeling pretty good. It's the first day if your exciting journey. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!!!!!

Wow. Have you been tired and fatigued during the day? Shouldn't push back surgery. They'll just send you for your machine and mask fitting. Should get a lot better after surgery Hey Nurselori, the thing is I never noticed! I have always kept busy with multiple jobs working 11 hr shifts and overtime. Also i finished art school a few years ago and pulled tons of all nighters while in school... I guess i just thought my lifestyle of staying busy and being overweight kept me tired! lol I'm glad I went ahead and did the test my doc had said that out of the bariatric patients he tests 80% of the time they will come back positive even when they have barely any symptoms i hope this surgery fixes it..I'm even more excited to get to October now! Hey! Just checking in to see how things are going for you since your sleep study...

That's so exciting!! And you're so lucky not have to do a liquid diet. I'm jealous!!!!!
