I had a Mirena IUD put in place in May before my August surgery. Body took about 4 months to adjust to the IUD and I had no period at all for 8 months. I lost 85 lbs, and then my weight stalled. For three months I have bounced around the same weight + or - 2 lbs. I've tried more exercise, adjusting calories, more Water, increased Protein, etc. Then, out of the blue I get a cycle. Weight still isn't budging. I have my one year anniversary coming up soon and I intend to talk to my doc, but was curious if anyone has experienced the same thing and/or has words of wisdom for me.

No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!
geelynn replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My mother was a diabetic, wore a size 4 clothing and weighed within 10 lbs. of her high school weight all of her life until her death. She forbid sugar and fast food of any kind (which is what made it so attractive to us kids, so we gorged whenever we could), but she had an embroidered pillow (I kid you not) on her bed that read "one can never be too rich, too thin, or have too much cheese popcorn". I think she thought she was doing her best, but years of therapy have taught me otherwise. -
Never mind . . . Google fixed my question! Interesting. I'd be curious about your results. Good luck!

Question . . . what is the 5:2? Curious. And no, it's not too late!

Mirena IUD - I think it may have stopped my loss?
geelynn replied to supbanana's topic in The Gals' Room
I had mine put in place several months before surgery. It took my body about 4 months to adjust to the IUD and then I had no period for 8 months. Suddenly, my weight loss stalled (85 lbs. lost and the scale is NOT MOVING) and then wham! I get a period. Crazy. I hadn't thought the two were connected until I saw your post. Now I'm thinking about it . . . . I'd be curious what your doc says and I intend to follow up with mine! -
post sleevers: how long before your weight loss halted?
geelynn replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm glad to be reading this topic and responses . . . I'm 10 months out, lost 85 lbs. total and feel great. Weight loss is at a dead stand still. BUT . . .the hair loss has stopped I've found that I've become lazy about food journaling, and I can't do that. I've also let carbs slowly creep back in and I can't do that. I've noticed that I'm not getting as much Water in. I have to remind myself that it took me a long time to get obese . . . it's going to take a long time to undo the "head harm" I've done. We can do this! -
What a difference! (9 months post-op w/pics)
geelynn replied to Rogofulm's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is exactly what I needed to read tonight. Congratulations on your loss! I'm 9 months post op and stuck at an 85 lb. loss--need to lose about 60 more. I've let some carbs slowly creep back in, but I am recognizing I am VERY carb sensitive. You've given me the motivation to journey on and revisit those rules. It does work and thank you for the inspiration! -
Size dropping w/o major weight loss?
geelynn replied to naturreal's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 9 months post-op and sitting stuck at an 85 lb. loss. The plateau has lasted two months and I'm about over it . . . BUT, pants are fitting better and my waist is coming back and my hair has stopped falling out in chunks. I think my body just had to sit here for a while. I'm trying not to be discouraged . . .but I'm not seeing the 1-2 size pant drop you are seeing! Congrats--that's progress! -
100 lbs Lost and Onederland!
geelynn replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! Can't wait to see that "1" on the scale myself -
So frustrating! I'm there with you. The first 80 seems to fall off (I had a few stalls at around 50 lbs, and then again at 75 lbs. lost) and a friend of mine who teaches Physical Education classes at the college level, suggested that I add a few calories two days a week (not junk calories, healthy calories, which for me meant adding a Protein shake before bed). And that helped break the latest plateau. Next time this happens, I'm going to make sure that my journaling is accurate!

Let me start this post by saying I live near Seattle . . . hard to avoid the stuff here! I too wasn't willing to give it up, but I drink half caff--one cup a day with sugar free creamer. My doc is fine with it--but that's my doc!

I am struggling with this "side effect" as well. I am 6 months post-op and started this journal with very thick, wavy hair. Now it is very thin and brittle. I started taking Biotin and making sure I got Protein in (up to 80-90 g per day) and notice that it has slowed, but not stopped. I've noticed baby hairs coming in and hope this will correct itself! My hairstylist noticed as well--my hair is not growing either (saving some dough on color!). My blood work came back fine at 3 months out--have my six month follow up this week and intend to speak to my dr about it. Realistically however, I'll take the hair loss along with the 75 lb. weight loss any day! This has been the only side effect I've had

I just unpacked my Vitamix this morning and made my first veg smoothie with Protein powder. Delish! Going to make the tofu carrot Soup tonight and chocolate ice cream later tonight for my kids. I am in love.

My general rule is to avoid anything white. White sugar, white rice, white flour . . . you get the idea. However, not going to lie--I had a few holiday Cookies these past two weeks. But the way I look at it: it was only a few and not a few dozen (and I'm down 71 lbs. since my pre-op diet).

Do I Have Unrealistic WLS Expectations?
geelynn replied to Smye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try hard to not compare your loss to the weight loss of others--I think someone has already said that your body will do what your body will do (male or female). I got into the trap early on of comparing my loss to others on this site (to the point where I just got defeated and stopped logging on). I've come to the slow realization after small milestones are reached (like the compliment from a person that hasn't seen me in a while, or the seatbelt fits on an airplane ride, the fact that my doctor said my blood pressure is now that of a teenager, the reduction of several medications, or the fact that I can bend over to tie my tennis shoes without feeling like I just ran a mile) that my loss is significant to my health, and although it is slower than other folks on this site . . . it is still going in the right direction! You will do great -
I'm putting this post in the success forum . . . because that is what I consider it I just listed some clothes on eBay that are brand new and with tags that I cannot wear due to sleeve surgery. Here is a link for one sweater, and then you can look at my other items: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181628339848?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 If you win (and or "buy now") an item and mention that you found the auction on bariatric pal, I will pay shipping as a thank you. Here's to moving down a size!

I'm 4 1/2 months out and my dr. and nutritionist still haven't cleared me for salad. Said it's too hard to digest. I miss it--who would have thought that? Not me!

Hi! I try to get between 70-90 g per day. I track my intake on the Lose It app on my phone (love it) but a lot of people like My Fitness Pal as well. I drink 2 Protein shakes a day--one mid morning and one about 1/2 hour before bed. This really helps to up the protein. Hope that helps!

I was sleeved on 8/13 and have lost 64 lbs. to date. I was feeling pretty good up until about 4 weeks ago where I just stalled out AND I started loosing hair--big ole clumps of hair. Not only was I frustrated that my weight wasn't moving, I was frustrated that hair was starting to go just when I thought I had avoided that side effect! I thought I was working the plan . . . journaled my food intake, exercising 4x weekly, Water, Protein etc. Then, I decided to log on and research hair loss and weight stalls since I don't have a support group option near me. Many people said hydrate, up your calories, get your protein in. So I have been consciously doing that for the past few days and FINALLY the stall has broken So thank you my little online support group. You helped without even knowing it
-
And you've had fantastic weight loss! Congrats. Any ideas how long the hair loss lasts?
-
I'm there with you! I've been on a four week plateau as well, but I just keep on keeping on. I think (in my case) my body is so in shock it kind of has to settle in to the weight loss. Don't feel sad--rejoice in the positives thus far!

Does everyone experience hairloss?
geelynn replied to mechidallas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Like the previous post, I am loosing more hair than pounds at this point . . . I'm 4 months post-op, lost 64 lbs. total and my hair just started coming out in clumps this past week. My stylist also noticed at my last color that she didn't have to apply as much as it is not growing. My weight loss has also stalled. I get all the Protein daily and take my Vitamins. I even use WEN hair products, hoping that would help. I'm encouraged to read that it will stop, and although I was aware of the side effect, it still makes me sad to see all that loss on a daily basis off the wrong end of my body! -
How do folks handle binge eating disorder after wls?
geelynn replied to elad1002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried about this too (I'm the textbook definition of emotional eater) and I have had a few times when I've eaten foods that I probably shouldn't. However, my sleeve prevents me from over doing it. So, yes, I ate one Oreo. But I did not eat 20--and that's success (in my book)! -
That's my birthday, so it will definitely be a good day! My best as you start your journey!

I started at 351--was sleeved on 8/13 and weighed in today at 297. I stared at the scale for what felt like 5 minutes. I haven't been in the 200s for years and years and years. It was a glorious feeling.
