Three month check-in. I'm down a total of 54 pounds...including pre-op diet. I'm sitting at 196. I have to be honest about two things. 1. I have GOT to start exercising more, I know it will help with my weight loss and how I look! 2. I'm really getting scared of the amount I can eat now, it seems to be so much larger. I will start weighing my food to see just how much I'm eating but my nutritionist not to eat over a cup of food at each meal and I think I'm pretty close!

I hear you Stacy! I am struggling with after dinner sweets cravings too! Here's something kinda of silly that has really helped me. After dinner I brush my teeth and then do a generic listerine mouthwash for a full minute. Because I've done the mouthwash and brushed my teeth, I think it can sometimes trick my brain into not wanting to eat anything else.

I hear you! I just said to a friend that the farther out from surgery I go I really have to fight hard against old habits. I'll be honest with you. I'm not getting in the required amount of Protein either! Ever since surgery I cant stand Protein shakes, they make me gag. So I need to get creative with my foods, switch them up a bit. Try to take one day at a time. Try to get your emotions figured out with your therapist and when you've taken care of you, then Mr. Right will come along. ((virtual hugs))

    How's everyone doing?
  6. It’s a special day here at BariatricPal, according to your profile..it’s your birthday. Happy Birthday, KatieD6982!

  7. Just over 3-weeks post-op! :)

  8. I just got back from my doctor's office where I talked this through with her at length. She said because the sleeve is a restrictive procedure only, you don't have to worry about it not getting absorbed by the body. She does recommend using a barrier method (condoms, or switch to nuva-ring) for 3 months. Gastric bypass patients are told to use the barrier method for good because of the absorption issues.
  9. Ok, ladies, for those of you who use the "pill" what were you advised to do after surgery? Were you told to increase the dose, also use condoms? (If condoms, how long did you have to use the double-up method?) Thanks for any advice! -K

You know, I've been thinking a lot about this subject. Before we had surgery, we would try to eat well, make bad choices sometimes, and then beat ourselves up about it. That is a HARD habit to break. Try your best to not beat yourself up. Are you logging your food on myfitnesspal? I haven't been but just started as a way to keep me in check. We're all in this together and I believe just about 75% of this journey is mental! One small step at a time and before you know it, you'll have walked a mile
  11. I have a question: My doctor seems adamant that I use two different forms of birth control now that I'm sleeved. I've been taking the pill for years (hubby will get a vasectomy sometime in the near future.) Is there something about bariatric surgery that makes the pill ineffective? Was anyone else told this? Of course, I do not want any babies I'm just wondering...... Thanks, K

Hi All! I'm checking in. I'll be two-weeks post-op tomorrow. I'm struggling a little with getting in water and protein. The past few days, I feel like I can only get in around three bites and boom, I'm full. I really don't want to get dehydrated so I always have a bottle of water or Isopure in my hand. I don't see the doctor again until 4/15 when I'll begin some meats and soft foods. My diet consists of Water, Isopure, a little yogurt, some scrambled eggs, and some baked ricotta for supper. I feel like I'm not getting enough of anything, really. But overall, I feel good, I'm not in a lot of pain. Today is my first day back to work and I'm taking it easy with a half-day. I feel like things use more energy now!
  13. Hi everyone! I was sleeeved on the 24th. My recovery is slow going but I'm hanging in there. I have a sudden adversion to protein shakes but I'm hoping it passes soon. I've been drinking Isopure as much as possible But I'm not getting in the amount of protein by far. I'll do the best I can and go from there. Has anyone had problems with bm afterwards???
  14. Yes! Only 6 more days...but it seems to me like they are dragging!! -Katie
  15. We will be under anesthesia for both intubation and removal. I don't know if this will help but I just watched my grandfather get intubated when his heart stopped in his hotel room. It's actually not as big as you think..... It only looked like the width of a highlighter. They have to put the scope down as well so it can't be that big.
