abckids posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi All... my name is Amy and I just had my lap band placed yesterday. Still in recovery mode... I am very happy:whoo: that I found this site so I can talk to others who have went through it before as well. And to talk to those thinking about it. Looking forward to making new friends. God Bless! Definitely push for it... the faster you can get those done, the faster the approval. Good thing though - you don't have to see a psychologist per se, just a registered therapist LMFC or something like that will work too... so that might help expedite it as well. The liquid diet preop - didn't have to do that, just had to do sugar busters which was hard enough. If it wasn't for having the band right now, I would have eaten pizza last night, fried chicken today, baked chicken two days ago, etc. etc. I am struggling with the hard reality that I am an addict who is trying to come clean. Bad part is is that food is my drug. So if it wasn't for fear of then I would be eating my same ole' way. So I imagine that the liquid diet preop would have been super hard for me. Thank God I didn't have to do that!!!! But if you are strong willed enough and want something bad enough - I suppose nothing is or could stop you! I know that is how I am and it sounds like you are the same!!! :Banane20: Keep me posted as to your progress... I am very interested in keeping up with it!!! Amy -

Do you have DJD or arthritis, insomnia, fibromyalgia, any other nerve related pain etc., anything else that is bothering you could be related to weight. All of it is a potential comorbidity... not to mention the depression - we ALL HAVE THAT! that is the biggy... make sure it is all listed and documented. Good luck - will be praying for you! Amy -
Hi Kathy, I am down south from you - near Dublin... had my surgery in Albany - glad you came out of lurkersville to join the party... LOL Amy

Mine is very similar (post op diet) Clear Liquids for the first week, then creamy clears for second week. Then more liquids for next 2 weeks... then baby food for 2 weeks and then solids chewed a lot. the gas is the worst! But today my camera incision is bothering me pretty bad. I assume it is the camera because it is the most bruised so it had to be moved the most - I think. Yeah, we will definitely be able to get through this... :faint:one way shape form or another... LOL Amy -
Mine are still there - but then again it has only been ... 3 days. LOL Amy

When steri strips fall off are you going to use mederma right away?
abckids replied to new_me_2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good question.... does mederma really help though? I have heard about it but never really tried it.... or know anyone who has. Amy -
I am surprised how it seems that each day I feel worse - I think a lot has to do with the fact that I am off all my other meds until I go back for my post op check this week. I think my other ailments are starting to take over. I feel AWFUL!!!! I bet if I were a "normal" person I wouldn't feel so bad but because I am off all my anti-inflammatory meds and other pain killers, I bet that is why I feel so lousy. Thanks for the kind words - I hope it gets better soon.... The nausea is starting to get to me today really bad as well... Amy:sick

Ok - so my stomach has been growling today - A LOT. and it hurts when it does - reminds me of when I was a kid and got into a fight with my sister and she punched me in the stomach... just hurts.... Does that go away? I am not hungry but just feel blah because of the growling... any suggestions on helping it subside? Thanks, Amy:sick

I used Dr. Bagnato as well!! He is great! My surgery was on Friday - there were three others that day as well. I met one lady who was getting it done that same day as well. The staff is great and the doc is great! I am very happy I did it! LOVE PALMYRA SURGICAL folks - they are the BOMB diggity (as my son says to me - Mom, that is soooo old school - ewww)... LOL  Amy
-
I had mine done at Palmyra on Friday. Great experience - Great Doctor - Dr. Bagnato from Albany!!! My port is in the same place as yours is - from what I read - I am definitely happy with that! Glad Dr. Bagnato developed that part of the procedure and placement. amy
-
I figured that is what mine was too - the emptiness and gas. Although, I wonder when the whole rest of the digestive track will kick back into gear? Anyways - tomato Soup watered down works wonderful for that horrid emptiness/gas rumbling. And it is very filling. Yummy too! Since you were banded one day before me - maybe by tomorrow mine will be better.... Thanks and hope you are up and running again soon - Amy :notagree (sleepy me)
-
Thanks... glad to meet you as well!!!! Amy

LOL.... I know what you mean... I am making baked chicken with my secret seasonings (lawry's season salt, Tastefully Simple's garlic-garlic, and McCormick's Steak seasoning) and it smells soooooo good... maybe I can have some of the broth... ummmmmm yummy!!! And I am only 2 days post op... LOL OH and let me tell ya'll this - my body decided yesterday that it DID NOT want JELLO~ lol... so no Jello for me... enjoy that too while ya'll can! Amy

getting all that water in is what worries me too... I have never in my life drank so much water in one day. I have my bottles color coated with crystal light mixed in so I know what color I have to have drank by bed time... I am already 2 bottles behind today. if I wasn't so darn tired.... auggggg.... No, I didn't sleep well last night at all... But anyways - glad that you are sucking it down slowly and hope it will subside soon. Keep the faith! Amy

Depends on your history and payment and surgeon schedule... could be in as few as 2 weeks from receipt of all items required to 45 days from receipt or even longer. Ask your surgeon's staff the normal timeline. Amy -

The lapband site is great - tons of great info! My process started on Sept. 9th of this year and resulted with surgery on October 12th... Why did mine go so fast? Because I had months of documented medical supervision on a weight loss plan, had already called my insurance company to see what the requirements were, scheduled the nutritional consult within 2 days of first visit and scheduled psych eval within same two days. I really really pushed for mine to go through extremely fast. And it worked. I knew what weekend I would have a 4 day weekend from school and jumped on it so I could have that as my recovery weekend before going back to teaching... And I had the greatest surgeon and team to help me work through getting it pushed through as fast as possible.... that is why mine went so fast - but my sister is going through the two more months of medically supervised assisted weight loss right now b4 her insurance will even consider her. SO each person/doc/insurance is different. My thing is to be VERY PROACTIVE and stay on top of requirements and try to get everything crammed in asap and that moves the schedule up some. Definitely keep us posted as to your 1st visit... Good Luck! Amy -
It is also a sign of dehydration. Make sure you are getting your Water in and liquid Vitamins (if your doc said to take them). If it is dehydration, you will be able to tell by the color of your urine. If your urine isn't clear - if it is at all yellow, then you need more water. Hope that helps. Amy

My biggest recommendation is to go watch the emmi video on the LapBand.com website. Sign up for a journey membership there (it is free) and it will help you out tremendously. There are many great stories and tons of wonderful information (read the pdf file on there that is the main pamphlet that the doctors give you.) There is a ton of information on that website. The dr. wants to know your weight loss history and your past successes/failures with weight loss. He / She will also get a general family history and health history on you as well. They will also ask you if you have any questions for them... BE SURE TO ASK AWAY!!! Take a list of questions with you so you don't forget any of them. The main point of the first visit is to establish a relationship and provide information about yourself to the surgeon so they know what they are getting into as well as what you are getting into. Hope that helps and Good Luck!! Amy -

Don't second guess yourself... It will be the best thing you ever did... However - the funny thing is is that yesterday when I got home and had the gas pains, I told my hubby that I didn't want to do it anymore... LOL :Banane10: Other than that - so far it is great! I can already notice a difference. Keep the faith! Just remember - if God brought you to it, He can bring you through it! Amy -

Actually, I didn't know anything about it until I woke up with it on. It was definitely a doctors thing. Works great. It is called the Relief Band Device. Definitely ask your doctor for one - or at least a script for one. Works wonderful!!! I can even dial it up when I get real bad nausea or dial it down if I have none. So far - so good! -
Let's get to know the TENS...come on you know you wanna!

I feel good, right after the meds kick in. No really - it isn't really that bad. The worse part is the gas they fill you with to make room for the tool movement. Getting rid of that gas was / is wonderful!!!! It is CO2. Other than that, imagine getting cut by something on your arm - the pain is the same as getting just any regular ole cut. BUT if you overdo it (like I did today) then it hurts really bad until the meds kick in. Then you are brought back down to reality that "Hey, I just had surgery yesterday - I better take it slow!" The bracelet for nausea is WONDERFUL!!!! I am already looking for a replacement for when this one dies (since the batteries are not replaceable). It helps tremendously. So... overall - I say it is all good. I still am trying to get over the fact that for TWO WHOLE DAYS already I have had nothing but liquids and am not dying for food. That is the most amazing feeling... not being hungry is ... different and so liberating. :whoo: Anyways, good luck and thanks to all the well wishers!! I have given myself a new BIRTHDAY - it is October 12th! Amy
