If it feels hinky to you (and it does to me) seek a second opinion. I mean, if they aren't being honest with your paperwork, can you trust them to perform major surgery??
-
They are offering AVERAGES so as to provide a realistic expectation. In other words, so you can ask yourself "if I only lose 60 lbs (instead of 100) would I still have the surgery?" I pushed myself, and followed Doctor's orders to exceed his goal of reaching a final Wright of 160--I thought 150 was better but an actually hovering at 138-139, down from 267 at my highest, and 237 the day of surgery. Your success-or failure-all depends on your efforts.

Learned last week that I was denied for skin removal surgery. Pretty bummed, what with warm weather coming and the thighs sagging. Apparently there's no way to appeal since BCBS has changed the criteria to qualify. Anyone else go through this, and what did you do? I can't afford to self pay, unfortunately.

5 months post op 53 pounds lost!
MyKidsMom89 replied to tiredofkeepingup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well done!! -
I set mine at 600 when I got it last June, and track EVERYTHING that I put in my mouth. I only eat when hungry and try to leave 200 calories 'on the table' every day. I know what you're thinking, but I'm not hungry! My NUT said I'm doing great, my numbers are terrific. She told me as long as I'm not hungry and I'm maintaining my weight it's all good. On days when I work out a lot, I may go as high as 700 calories. I struggle to avoid the carbs, but have found who's grain bread products help with constipation.

Okay, finish the sentence "One year ago, I couldn't have..." What? For me, a year ago, I couldn't have worked 12 days in a row, catered 4 events in 2 days, put in 25 hours of overtime, assisted with classroom parties and attend Christmas parties of my own without being completely exhausted. Sure, I was tired, but not mind numbing, @$$ dragging, near tears all day exhausted. And I even drive several people home who drank too much, not getting home until 3:30 am (after being awake for 24 hours!) and I could function the next day! One year ago?? Forget it!! I'd still be in bed trying to sleep! So, how about you?? What can you do this year that you couldn't do last?

When mine started to fall out, I stopped washing every day, and went to every other it every 3rd day. I would wet it in the shower, but not shampoo so I wouldn't break off the hair, and then blow dry on a cooler setting. When I did shampoo I made sure to condition as I noticed it was very dry. Don't worry though-this phase actually passes quickly!

I just want to share with anyone who is in the fence about having this surgery that you should go for it! I will celebrate my Surgi-versary tomorrow and it literally changed my life!! I've lost 130 lbs and am now in a size 6/small; I actually like myself for the first time ever in my 52 years of life;I've never been healthier or happier! It's NOT the easy way out by any means--it's work like you've never done before--but it is soooo worth it! That's all for now--keep up the good work y'all!

What do you tell people?
MyKidsMom89 replied to Painter Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tell people that I e taken charge of my health! I tell them I'm following a bariatric diet (truth) eating smaller portions (truth) and working out like a maniac (truth). They don't need to know I had the surgery. I felt like I was lying by omission at first, but I certainly wouldn't ask them about their medical procedures, some don't feel the need to tell them about mine. The only person I made a point of sharing the surgery with is the daughter of my friend--her father is constantly on her about her weight (she's 18) and he told her she should work out like me so she "wouldn't be such a fat ass" right in front of me. That killed me!! So I told her the whole story and reminded her she is a beautiful young woman (she's GORGEOUS!) and I didn't want her to feel bad about herself. -
I was allowed to drive once I was off pain meds for 24 hours....if I recall it was only about 3 days or so.

You DO know that a dishwasher weighs 80 lbs, right?? Now imagine walking around all day carrying a dishwasher! You have to remember that you are losing, that this is a tool, and a process. I feel terrible that you've endured so many challenges and want you to know we are all here for you! WLS isn't easy-you know that. But you deserve to be healthy and happy and confident.

Wendy's small chili is filling and delicious-it's my go-to when traveling for work! -
this might be a bit awkward but....

Smooth move tea has been a Godsend for me! More effective than Miralax, and it's a nice calming break in my day. If I drink in the evening, all is better in the morning. No cramps at all. You do not want to go more than a few days between bm's--very uncomfortable! -
I am so excited for all of you!! This is the beginning of a whole new life, and while the first day or two might bring regret and discomfort, I PROMISE it will get better and the only regret you will have is not having had the surgery sooner! We are all here for you--please keep us posted!❤️❤️

Best piece of advice you have! I'm a day away from Gastric Sleeve surgery.
MyKidsMom89 replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Follow Dr's orders....don't be afraid to use Miralax it SmoothMove tea if you don't poop in a few days....don't trust a fart....and push those liquids-Popsicles will taste amazing!! Best of luck to you--keep us posted, please! -
I was sleeved 11/3--lost 30 pre-surgery and 73 since. Dr is delighted that I've lost 97% of my excess weight so quickly, and so am I ????

I developed a rash on my legs and the backs of my hands--it got so bad that I wanted to find a Brillo pad to scratch! I went to urgent care and they said it's not shingles, scabies, impetigo, psoriasis or eczema, but they didn't know what it is. I've been using a steroid cream which seems to have quieted things, but it's not gone completely yet. It looks worse than it is, but unfortunately it can be seen when I wear capris. I may have to cave in and call a dermatologist....

So, I'm having my sleeve done in August-just as I return to a new school year-and I'm wondering if y'all would share with me how much down time you had. I have a high pain tolerance, but I am worried about the fatigue that so many write about. Will I be able to make it through the day? I'm on my feet 80% of the day, so I'm pretty concerned. I know better than to push myself, but I want to be fairly productive, too. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

wondering what to expect for the rate of loss?
MyKidsMom89 replied to BarbHY's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since I got serious about my weight in late July, I've lost 75 lbs.-- 30 before surgery, and 45 since sleeve date of 11/3. Like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. Stay motivated, listen to your body, but don't be afraid to push yourself abit. I have developed such a love if the gym, that my hubs has questioned whether I'm going to "the gym" or "the Jim" ( I have only 1friend named Jim and he's happily married!) it sounds like your in the right frame if mind, and I'm sure you will succeed-and we are all here for you! -
What is Your Goal Weight at 5'5
MyKidsMom89 replied to sukik's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
5'7" and 52 years old-Doctor's goal is 160, My goal is 150. Had my sleeve on 11/3 and am currently 191. I told Dr. I'd be at 160 when I see him on May 5th, and I think I can do it--with your support, of course! -
For the people actively Losing weight that track food...
MyKidsMom89 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't been tracking my food intake very well. I just try to stay under 600-700 calories a day. I honestly think I have developed a fear of food. I have a scrambled egg for breakfast, then I may have some coffee. I try to drink a protein shake, but they are really sweet now. I'm also struggling to get my fluids in, averaging about 48 oz per day. For a late lunch/early dinner I may have cottage cheese, or some turkey or chicken. I know in my head this isn't enough, but I would be devastated if the scale started climbing. I've lost 63 lbs since I started getting ready for this journey in late July. I did try saltines, as my NUT said they were allowed at this point (sleeved 11/3) but found myself craving them, so those are gone from the pantry. It's so bizarre now-I'm not hungry at all and I don't find the pleasure in food that I once did.
