    Scared to eat different foods

I went with Dannon Light & Fit Greek. Only 9 carbs. Made a great afternoon snack at work. Did your nutritionist give you a carb range to stay in? Mine did not. I found that just by meeting her 100 grams of Protein per day goal, my carbs were naturally limited. Simply didn't have room for them. So I didn't make any special effort to AVOID carbs. Just focused on my protein goal and the rest fell into place.

I kinda feel out of place....

I've been maintaining at my goal weight for over 6 months. I haven't been in plus sizes for close to a year probably? I STILL feel SUPER self-conscious walking into any normal clothing store in the mall. I feel like everyone is staring at me thinking I have no right to be in there. I used to only ever go into those stores with my much thinner sister and at least then I felt like people knew I was only in there to help shop for HER.

    I think I messed up

As other's have said, it's very common to see a stall on the scale at this point, so it's likely not being caused by the things you are doing wrong. However, that's no excuse not to be sticking to your surgeon and nutritionist's plan for you. You really really really need to stick to the plan. This is your chance to break free of bad habits and establish the healthy new habits that will see you through this process. It's also the time for your stomach to be healing... remember how brutalized it was. Pushing it too far too fast can have SERIOUS health consequences. You need to be very gentle with it like the wounded little baby it is.

    Scared to eat different foods

I wasn't allowed nuts or berries with seeds until 3 months post-op, so you should definitely check with your nutritionist. As for carbs, I was allowed "soft whole grains" somewhere around 6 weeks post-op, iirc. However, I found anything "bready" WAY too filling still at that point. I remember trying to make myself an open face egg sandwich with a teeny tiny piece of this toasted: http://www.pepperidgefarm.com/ProductDetail.aspx?catID=754&prdID=121328 I got a little over halfway through it and thought I was going to die. But that was way more than 7 weeks out. Closer to 3 months probably? I can do a whole piece of toast now, but I'm 18 months out. Big difference! You should definitely be doing Greek yogurt now. Surprised your NUT didn't have you on that already in the full liquids phase... Great source of Protein and easy on the stomach.

    March 2nd sleevers

You have to do everything on a timer in the early days. You definitely won't WANT to eat or drink for a while. Try to get in 1 ounce of Water every 15 minutes while you are awake.

    Hi Everybody!

I feel the same way. I like checking in here daily, because it keeps me accountable and keeps my surgery "top of mind" still. I think it's easy to get sucked back into "normal" life once you are a few months or years out and lose focus.

    H2Orange

My NUT advised against juice past the Clear liquids phase post-op. And even in that phase, it was supposed to only be 50/50 juice/water. Obviously, there is a big argument against drinking your calories long term. I wouldn't think that one ounce of OJ would have many calories though. The only other hesitation I'd have is that OJ specifically is high in acid, so it might not be good for immediately post-op while your stomach is still healing. I would think you might want to wait about 30 days or so. That's how long I was told to wait before having coffee, also because of the acid.

    Old Clothes

GET RID OF THEM! You will not needing them again and hanging onto them is a statement that you don't believe in yourself!

    Hi Everybody!

Welcome! I completely understand what you mean about the people closest to you not really getting what you are going through. My husband, parents, siblings, in-laws, and three of my coworkers know about my surgery. None of those people really gets it though. My husband REALLY doesn't get it. My parents are supportive, but I only see them every couple of months. One of my coworkers is very engaged and talks a lot about it with me, which is nice. One of my coworkers just doesn't really talk about it at all. And the third was really opposed to it and seems to get pretty angsty whenever I bring it up (he is probably over 400 pounds himself). It's great to have this site and share my concerns, thoughts, opinions, and experiences with people who really GET it. I hope the site can be as great a resource to you as it's been to me.
  11. Sounds amazing! Glad you enjoyed your trip and hopefully the new job will go really well. I have kind of considered what it might be like to switch jobs and work with people who never knew me when I was obese. Must feel strange and interesting.
  12. I was allowed to keep taking mine straight through. Edit: I wasn't allowed to take anything by mouth the morning of my surgery (not even water) so I missed that day. My husband and I also used backup birth control for a good month+ post-op because I have heard a LOT of horror stories of people getting pregnant even while on BC post WLS, because of the increased fertility. Plus I was on an antibiotic for a couple of days post-op.

    How Is This Possible?

Yep! That's how I weigh every morning!
  14. If there is a lift involved, there will be additional scarring. For just implants themselves, the scarring is VERY minimal. But there are various types of lifts than will leave differently shaped scars. An "donut" lift will leave scarring all the way around the edges of the nipple. A "lollipop" lift will leave scarring around the nipple and then straight down the front of the breast from the bottom of the nipple to the fold. An "anchor" lift is like the lollipop lift, but there is also a horizontal scar along the breast fold... this can sometimes be extended into the arm pit depending on how extensive it is. Doh! Poster above me already said this exact same stuff!
  15. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to take care of yourself in the early days. You are supposed to be up and moving ASAP. You can't do any heavy lifting, so if you have kids or pets, you might need someone around to take care of THEM, but you should be able to do the little bit of food prep you need to do for yourself and take care of your own personal hygiene.
  16. @@LMSWNYC Glad to hear everything you are experiencing is within the realm of "normal". Hopefully you will be feeling better soon.
  17. Sounds like not eating enough to me if you really are under 1000 calories a day with your level of activity. You should try tracking your food accurately for a week or two to get a real sense of where you are at. Then, once you have a real baseline, you can experiment with increasing calories to see if that helps. If you aren't consuming enough calories, your body goes into "self preservation" mode and your metabolism drops really low.

    First steps of my journey

@@ryannryann I'm certainly older than you, but I wanted to welcome you to BariatricPal. We do have some younger members who have been sleeved or are considering it in their late teens/early 20's, so you are not alone. I hope you are able to find the information and support you are looking for here.

    How Is This Possible?

When you weighed this morning, were you clothed? Did you eat or drink anything between the time you weighed this morning and the time you weighed at work? I think @@Miss Mac is right... it must have been those 14,000 calories you ate in the course of a couple of hours.... Okay, sarcasm aside. Weight fluctuates throughout the day. We're supposed to be getting a minimum of 64 ounces of Water a day. That's 4 POUNDS of water a day. Retaining any portion of that can cause artificial gains on the scale. I promise you that you did not gain 4 pounds of fat today. If your post is meant as a general complaint about the lack of weight loss in the last week or so, welcome to the dreaded Week 3 Stall. It happens to almost every single one of us. You lose weight rapidly the first week or two, then it seems like the whole thing just shuts down. It is just your body taking a second to get its bearings. It's in shock and clinging to every single ounce right now out of fear for your life. Stick with the program and the scale will start moving downward in another week or two. You already pointed out that you are a pants size smaller. It's very common during a stall that you will lose inches, even if you aren't losing pounds. Your body is just adjusting to the drastic changes you've made.

    9/2/15 - Can't Eat Enough

There are lots of other sources of Protein besides shakes. You are certainly far enough out now that you can have Protein Bars. Just be careful to check all the nutritional info and make sure they are low in sugar, saturated fat, and net carbs. You can also eat lots of high protein foods: meat, dairy, nuts, legumes.... What sorts of things ARE you eating and are you having any issues with any specific foods?
  21. JamieLogical

    Concerned

Definitely. You just had major surgery. While it is important to get up and walk a bit every hour or two, doing major household chores is not something you should be attempting. I was seriously so exhausted the first two weeks or so that it was hard to wash my hair!

    Regrets that got better

@@creneeha You'll get there. The first couple of weeks can be very very tough. It took about two weeks for my swelling to go down to the point where I could get all my water in without too much issue. Try marching in place while sipping. That helped me a little.

    Three Months Post Op Success

Mine is 100 as well and that is working really well for me. By getting in my 100 grams, I don't have as much room for carbs or fats. I worry about what kinds of things I might be eating if I wasn't pushing for 100 grams of protein every day.
  24. JamieLogical

Is this good news or bad?

Definitely a good thing. It's always hard to stay on track when we're out of our routine. The fact that you didn't set yourself back at all is awesome!
  25. Decided this morning to embrace the loss I'm seeing with my FitBit and half marathon training. Will let myself get down to 155 (10 pounds below goal) before I start stressing about trying to get more calories in.
