How do you know .... ?

It's really up to you. There is nothing preventing you from losing more weight if you want to. Some people will hit a stall for a while if they are at a set point their body is comfortable with, but just like breaking any stall, increasing activity and shaking up your routine can get things moving again. It's still just mostly basic math of energy in versus energy out. Might just be a little resistance on the part of your body if it's happy where it is.
  2. I would think the pulp and peel would be bad too early out. I was told to not eat skins of fruits or anything fibrous for 3 months post-op.
  3. I don't think you should stress that your surgery will be canceled or delayed because of this. Most people who were dieting and exercising prior to the liquid diet don't lose as much water weight on it as people who were just eating crap and being inactive up to the start of the diet. Since you had already been dieting and exercising and lost a fair bit of weight, then you can't expect to lose as much on it. Assuming you are burning around 2000 calories a day through normal activity, at 800 calories you only have a deficit of 1200 calories a day. That totals up to an average of 2.4 pounds per week. Since you didn't have the water weight to lose, you aren't going to see a 10+ pound drop like a lot of people do. You are only going to lose real fat at a rate of about 2-3 pounds per week.

I agree with @@2goldengirl that much more info is needed before we can offer any advice.

    Happy One Year Surgiversary

Woohoo! Congrats to you and anyone else celebrating their surgiversary this month! Hope everyone is kicking butt!

    Weight gain already?!?!

News Flash: It takes ingesting 14000 EXTRA calories to gain 4 pounds of fat. Eating 800 calories total in a day is NOT going to cause you to gain ANY fat, much less 4 pounds. Only water retention can cause your weight to fluctuate that drastically in such a short period of time.

    Phase 2 Mushy Food

Protein shakes should be a staple for you in these early months. Almost no one can eat enough "normal" food to get all their protein in until a few months out. And even then, most of us continue to supplement with at least one Protein shake or bar per day, even years post-op. Look for shakes with whey isolate as the main protein source (assuming you can handle dairy and aren't vegan?) and low sugar and fat. GNC has a good selection of powders available that you can mix with Water or milk. My nutritionist recommended almond milk, but I hate it, so I use soy milk or just plain water instead. There are also TONS of options available online. BariatricPal even sells several brands/varieties. There will be some trial and error to figure out which ones you like long term.
  8. Finally lost that vacation water weight this morning. Was starting to get a little stressed it might be a real gain! Relieved to know it wasn't.

even if the logical part of our mind knows we did not eat enough to actually gain fat, it's always a relief to get that verified by the scale!

@Christinamo7 I did eat way more food and way less healthy food while I was on vacation. Plus it was my first week of not tracking food since I got my FitBit back in February. So I was a little worried. I haven't tracked food for most of my post-op journey, but having been tracking for over a month and then stopping made me paranoid, I guess.

    The struggle is real.

@@choicemun Are you getting your protein, water, and vitamins in? Are you moving around some? If so, you are doing it right. The weight will come off. I "only" lost 14 pounds my first moth post-op, but I still reached my goal and I've been maintaining below goal for 8 months now. This isn't a race.

    Vomitting this am...

Is this a common occurrence or is it the first time you've vomited in a while? Did you do anything unusual or out of your routine, like eat too fast or eat something you haven't eaten before? Did you feel nauseous before you ate?

Welcome to the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall"!

    Sleeved on yesterday

The first couple of days post-op are going to be rough. You will have a lot of discomfort, possibly some pain, possibly som nausea, and just feel generally pretty crappy. Hang in there.

    Tummy tuck...

Don't plan on losing weight with the skin removal surgery. Yes, it has some weight to it, especially if you have a lot of it, but the months of swelling and the weeks of inactivity post-op will cause you to, at least temporarily, gain some weight. By the time things level out several months post-op, it will be hard to say how much the skin removal itself has affected your weight. So you definitely want to be at or near your target weight prior to the surgery.

3 months post op - vitamins?

My nutritionist has me on a bariatric multi-vitamin twice a day, liquid B12, a probiotic, and calcium citrate +D3. In addition to all of those, I take Vitamin C, Omega 3, extra D3, and under the advise of my doctor for carpel tunnel: CoQ10.

    Tummy tuck...

Are you happy at the weight you are now? I don't think a quick loss of 10 pounds after maintaining for a year would have a significant impact on your skin, so you should still be fine to consider TT now. Just consult your potential surgeon and definitely discuss with them if you are seriously considering losing any MORE weight.

    Tummy tuck...

Conventional wisdom is to wait until you've maintained your weight for about 12 months. Some people do it a little sooner.

    9 months out and Complications

I had problems with low blood pressure around 9 months too. My doctor told me to "liberally increase my intake of salt"... that was actually printed on my patient plan! It seems to have worked, as now I have far fewer issues. I was getting dizzy every time I stood up from sitting down or especially lying down. And I also sometimes just felt dizzy while out walking around and had to sit for a second to get my bearings. But I stopped worrying about sodium at all in anything I ate (still couldn't bring myself to ADD salt to things) and that seems to have done the trick. My BP is still lower than it was pre-WLS, but not dangerously low anymore.
  18. Eggs were rough for me the first time I ate them. Or should I say "egg" and "it", since I could only eat about 3/4 of one egg over a 45+ minute period the first time and I ended up lying on the floor in pain? I didn't throw up, but it definitely felt "stuck" for a while. The challenge when you first move onto soft foods is that you really have to chew and eat SUPER slow and stop at the first sign of discomfort instead of trying to eat as much as you think you "should" eat. My problem was I really thought I "should" be able to eat a whole egg at that point and I pushed myself way too hard to try to finish it. If you are still in pain and having trouble keeping things down later today or certainly into tomorrow, call your surgeon!

    3 weeks clear liquids

Yeah, I was only on clear liquids for 3 days and then I was allowed my regular protein shakes at least. I think it was closer to a week and a half before I was allowed any other "full" liquids besides the shakes. At that point I was allowed drinkable yogurt and strained cream soups.
  20. JamieLogical

    3 weeks clear liquids

Can you do clear protein drinks? Isopure, Syntrax Nectar, and Unjury chicken broth are all clear protein drinks. For my clear liquids phase I did a lot of strained broth-based soups. They had more flavor than just plain chicken broth. But I think it's nuts you haven't been given any instructions on getting any protein in for 3 full weeks!

Horomonal Eating - PMS and all that jazz

I am going through a hormonal/emotional craving situation right now. I'm 20 months post-op. I can tell you that the struggle is still real, but nothing like what it used to be. Even if I completely lose it and overeat on things I shouldn't be eating, the amount of "damage" I can do is still very limited by the physical restriction. At most I can maybe eat an extra 400-500 calories in a whole day if I do a lot of grazing/snacking? That's nothing compared to the extra 3000-4000 calories I used to be able to put away with a whole pizza, bag of chips, and pint of ice cream. Yesterday I ate some chips and some Pop Tarts. Definitely NOT proud of that, but I've got it back under control today, eating on my normal schedule. I guess my point is that food is still a daily battle at times, but at least with the sleeve, you have a tool to help you win that battle far more often.

    Phase 2 Mushy Food

If you are on mushie foods, you should have no problem drinking a protein shake. Weren't you drinking them before this stage? But, as the others have said, not all protein shakes are created equal. You want to look for one with whey isolate as the main protein source and not much added sugar or fat.
  23. Reflux may improve or get worse with sleeve. There's really no way to predict. I have reflux post-sleeve, but it's controlled by taking Prilosec OTC twice a day. Once in the morning and once before bed. There's certainly no reason you shouldn't be able to lose weight with sleeve though. As long as you stick to your plan, the restriction will definitely keep you from eating too much at one time. It won't fix anything else, though. So it's on you to make sure you don't graze, don't drink your calories, don't eat and drink at the same time, and don't eat slider foods. As for the pre-op diet, in my experience, it did NOT get better. It was a very very miserable two weeks for me.

3 months post op - vitamins?

You need to be taking your vitamins. You have to take them for life, so you might as well get used to it! Are you having regular blood work done to make sure you aren't developing any deficiencies?
  25. @@nyseness The sleeve won't keep you from eating chips and Snickers. At least once you are healed. The bypass may not either, though. Not everyone who has bypass experiences dumping. I would never recommend bypass over sleeve for the SOLE purpose of having dumping syndrome, since there are no guarantees there. Also, long term, you can lose just as much weight with sleeve as with bypass, it may just not be as quick.
