  1. Whey isolate is much higher quality Protein and better absorbed by the body. My nutritionist would only allow shakes with whey isolate. I actually liked the vanilla Body Fortress whey isolate. We actually bought the vanilla body fortress isolate a week ago and had to return it. I then read the reviews and saw all 1 stars and the people were complaining that the formula had been changed, that it was very good at one time and now it was terrible! Wish I had read the reviews before buying it! Oh the sucks. It has been a long time since I had it. I switched to Protein Bars once I was on solid foods because I was SO DONE with shakes by then!

"Impossible?" Nay, Jamie, you've proved that nothing is impossible for you.

  4. If you are staying at the Mariott, there are fridges in the rooms, but they are pretty full of the mini-bar, for-purchase items. At least mine was. You might be able to request a room with an empty fridge? I don't know what type of sweetener is in the Popsicles at OCC or the hotel (they are different), but you could probably ask ahead of time about the OCC ones at least. All I know is the OCC ones were heaven! Honestly it will be a miracle if you can manage your Water and 1-2 popsicles, bites of Jello, or sips of broth a day those first two days. I think you are overthinking it. You don't need to stock up on a bunch of stuff. You won't really have to start worrying about Protein and more "food" until you are back home.
  5. You Look Outstanding!!!!! What were/are your stats, please? You really look amazing! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App All my stats are in my profile. I'm 5'6". My highest weight was 270. I was 260 when I started considering WLS. I was 236 day of surgery. I'm currently 159. Reached my goal of 165 right at my one year mark. Been maintaining below that for the past 8 months.

  8. Almost every single WLS patient has a stall somewhere around the 3 week mark. It's known as the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall" and can last anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Just focus on your program. Meet your protein and water goals. Take your vitamins. And move around as much as possible. Put the scale away for a while.

    FOUND A NEW SNACK

The sugar seems a bit high, but turkey jerky and cured meats in general can be a great snack. I relied heavily on turkey sticks (like beef sticks but made with turkey) in the early months post-op, once I was allowed solid foods.
  10. It could be your body's reaction to ketosis, which is know to cause dry mouth. It could also be oral thrush. Check your tongue in the mirror and see if there is a white film on the back of it, toward your throat. I got oral thrush post-op from the liquid antibiotic I was on. Otherwise, you might just genuinely be thirsty. How many ounces of fluids are you getting in per day?

What do you do for Gas Pain?

The few times that's happened to me it's been from eating dense protein too quickly or not chewing thoroughly enough. I, like you, just lay flat on the floor until it passes, but it is quite excruciating. I don't think mine is gas though. I think it's actually "stuck" food and until the blockage breaks down and passes through it is extremely painful. I haven't found any solution other than to wait it out.

    Headaches?

It's normal to experience headaches as your body enters ketosis. It will go away, but you will likely continue to feel sluggish through the whole pre-op diet.
  13. My FitBit isn't waterproof so I can't wear it while swimming. It doesn't seem to count cycling as steps, but it does count it as "activity minutes."
  14. I was advised to do up to 60 minutes of "brisk walking" a day (not consecutive, but broken up throughout the day) immediately post-op until 60 days post-op. I was then cleared for more intense cardio and strength training.

    UGH! MY HAIR!

It's different for everyone. My hair loss only lasted about a month and a half (from 3.5 months out to 5 months out) and then it started growing back immediately. Some people lose longer and more.... some people don't lose any. Take your vitamins, get your protein in, drink your water, and hope for the best!

    Hair loss

Really, in the grand scheme of things, a little temporary hair loss is a *tiny* price to pay for health and longevity. Some people experience more hair loss than others. Some people have none at all. Most peopled do get immediate regrowth. If your loss lasts longer than a couple of months and you aren't seeing new growth, you could get blood work done to see if you've developed any vitamin deficiencies. But if you are taking your vitamins and getting your protein in, you *should* have minimal loss and have immediate regrowth. Of course, if there are other factors at play, you might have to consult with your doctor.
  17. Yeah, they are completely unique to each surgeon/nutritionist, so you should reference the materials your program gave you. If they haven't given you the guidelines yet, call them up and ask for them.

    LASTNIGHT DINNER VSG LIFE

Sorry. My question wasn't directed it a you. It was directed at the person who said it takes them 3 hours to eat a meal. I was curious how anyone could get fluids in if they are eating for 3 hours at a time and not allowed to eat and drink at the same time.

    Honeymoon period!

There seems to be a common belief that people magically lose faster in the first 9-12 months after surgery and if you don't lose the bulk of your weight by then, you will struggle. I personally don't believe in it at all. Your metabolism doesn't arbitrarily switch off right at the 12 month mark. What I think happens is that you get back into real life. Your surgery is no longer THE thing on your mind. You aren't as mindful of every bite you take. You aren't as strict about putting Protein first. You might let your eating schedule slip a bit. You might go for more convenience-type foods as you get swept up in your daily activities. You likely don't have the same sensitivity to certain foods that you did early on. Your stomach is fully healed and you reach the new max capacity of your sleeve/pouch. So all of those things add up to make it harder to continue to lose weight quickly. I do believe it is important to really use the early months post-op to establish new, healthy habits. Find foods that you know work for you and you can keep eating long term. Get into a routine with your exercise. All of those things are easier for you to do in the early months when your surgery is still "top of mind". If you get to where you do a lot of those things without thinking about it, then when real life creeps back in, they will be more automatic. But to say it's impossible to lose weight 12+ months out is ridiculous. It just requires focus and effort.

    Surgery over

Happy it went well. Don't share pics until you are healed up in a couple months. You will scare everyone off of surgery!

    Week 4 post op

Welcome to the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall!" About 95% of us experience it. It is completely normal. It can last as little as a few days and as much as a couple of weeks. Just stick to your program. Focus on your water, protein, and walking. Put the scale away.

    Hair loss

There's not much you CAN do, but wait it out. Hair falls out due to events that happened MONTHS ago. There's nothing you can do right now to stop it. My hair loss lasted about a month and half (3.5-5 months out) and then began regrowing right away.

    Band to sleeve?

That seems like BS to me. There are TONS of people on these forums who have been successful with sleeve after having their bands removed.
  24. Not everyone has severe restriction with liquids early-on. Those who do, it's just due to swelling. If you can get your liquids in right away, that is awesome! You are one of the lucky ones! None of us have restriction with fluids past a couple weeks post-op when the swelling goes down. You are just ahead of the game. I promise you that once you move onto more solid foods and are fully healed, you will definitely feel restriction.

    LASTNIGHT DINNER VSG LIFE

If it's taking you 3 hours to eat one meal and you can't eat and drink at the same time, when are you supposed to get your water in?
