    4 WEEKS POST OP

@@joiB I'm sorry if you my post came across as negative or not acknowledging your feelings. I was trying to be supportive and give you hope that a "slow" loss isn't the end of the world and you can still eventually reach your goal. I guess it wasn't clear to me from your original post exactly what kind of feedback you were wanting.

    1st day liquid diet

For how long? That Clear liquids thing is usually only for the last day or two pre-op.
  3. Are you sure they said not to drink more than an ounce every 15 minutes as a limit? That makes no sense. Most surgeons recommend trying to drink AT LEAST an ounce every 15 minutes.

Do you have any physical ailments preventing you from exercising? If not, you should definitely start trying to fit in more exercise or at least physical activity. It will be critical in maintenance and likely make losing the last 50 pounds a little easier too.
  5. There shouldn't be any limits to how much you are drinking (except physical limits). So if you can get more water in, do! Especially if you are fighting a virus. Hydration is super important. And I agree that you should call your surgeon if the nausea is that bad.

Will a Week Off be Enough for a HR desk Job

I think a lot of it has to do with your post-op food stages as well. If you get advanced to more solid foods more quickly and can get in more calories, you may not be as tired. When I went back at 15 days, I was still only on full liquids. I wasn't advanced to purees until day 17.

Will a Week Off be Enough for a HR desk Job

That is the truth. Even going back to work at 15 days post-op, this is exactly what I did. Went straight to bed as soon as I got home from work for the first few days.

Even if it were a race, down 130 pounds in 7.5 months would be winning!I wish it were all lost in that timeBecause of my high weight, I got very serious about my health once I met with my Bariatric team last March and started eating and drinking healthy as well as exercising. I could barely walk a block last March and by June I was pushing my baby in his stroller for 3 mike walks & they'd take me about a hour and a half to do. I lost 41 pounds in the 6 months before my surgery to sort of JumpStart my weight loss Sent from my A846L using the BariatricPal App Still sounds like you are doing awesome! I have no doubt you will get that last 50 pounds off.

Will a Week Off be Enough for a HR desk Job

Some people are fine to return in one week. Some people aren't. It's difficult to predict. Usually surgeons recommend 2-4 weeks off. I went back at 15 days post-op and I made it, but I was EXHAUSTED. The fatigue was my main issue at that point. The pain didn't last more than the first week, but the fatigue was brutal. If your desk job requires a lot of mental effort, focus, and concentration, I wouldn't recommend trying to go back at one week.

Why do people bash weight loss surgery?

Especially considering the mortality rate is lower than knee replacement. You don't hear how everyone and their mother died from knee replacement....

    allowed meds

Maybe contact your surgeon? I didn't know what it was, so I just looked it up and some of the possible side effects are: severe heartburn, burning pain in your upper stomach, or coughing up blood new or worsening heartburn mild heartburn, bloating mild nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain diarrhea, gas, or constipation Since all of those are stomach/digestion related, that might be cause for concern. It also says "tell your doctor if you have an ulcer or other problem in your stomach or esophagus" and "you should not take Fosamax if you have a problem with the movement of muscles in your esophagus." All of those things lead to me believe it would be important to discuss it with your surgeon before taking it.

Why do people bash weight loss surgery?

Oh but diet pills and fads are for those "disciplined" people who just can't seem to lose those 10-20 pounds. WLS is for the weak-willed, lazy, morbidly obese! That's the difference!

    4 WEEKS POST OP

I "only" lost 14 pounds my first month. I "only" lost 8 pounds my second month. I "only" averaged 6 pounds a month for a long time after that. And I eventually got down to where I was "only" losing 2 pounds a month. You know where all of those "only"s got me? To goal, where I've been maintaining for almost 9 months! Rate of loss is completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Are you following your plan? Are you getting in your Water, Protein, and Vitamins? Are you getting up and moving around? Is the scale generally trending downward? Then the only things you are doing "wrong" are comparing yourself to others and being impatient.
  15. If your liver has already been shown to be normal, that is likely why you aren't being required to do a pre-op diet. Not all surgeons require them of all patients.
  16. I was cleared for alcohol at 3 months post-op. Some surgeons recommend never drinking alcohol again because of the risk of addiction transference. The rate of alcoholism among post-WLS patients is higher than the general population. One thing you should consider is that, while you physically CAN drink alcohol post-op, it will likely affect you differently than pre-op. For me, I get drunk VERY fast, on very little alcohol. And I also sober up extremely quickly. It's like the whole process is much quicker than it used to be. I have read some accounts from people who are post-op who can't get drunk at all. No matter how much they drink. That seems like something you should be very careful of! Alcohol has a lot of empty calories and if you feel you need to drink more to get a buzz, it may not be worth it.

    Getting Fluids In...UGH

Another thing you can do is buy/make a Water bottle with times marked on it like this: I can't do it, because I need my water to be ICE cold, so I need to use opaque, double-walled, insulated bottles. But if you don't need to keep ice in your water and can just use a clear plastic bottle, this would work well.

Cost of gastric sleeve without insurane

Which surgeon?Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. How did you feel about your surgeon? What kind of follow-up do fid you receive Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I honestly only met and interacted with my surgeon right before I was wheeled into the OR. He seemed really friendly and put me at ease. But all of my pre and post-op communication was with the on-staff nutritionist, cardiologist, and radiologist. They answered all my nutritional and medical questions. The nutritionist followed up with me regularly to check my progress and make sure I was on track with what I should be eating and taking my Vitamins. And even now, 20 moths post-op, I know I could email and receive a reply within the hour. They also sent me questionaires frequently in the beginning and then further apart asking me things about whether I had and pain or nausea or difficulty getting fluids in. If any of my answers to those questions were cause for concern, then one of the doctors would call me. My PCP has done all of my follow-up blood work and I've sent that back to OCC to keep in my file.

Don't worry. If you loved water pre-op, you will love it again. I had the same fear, because drinking was so hard for the first few weeks post-op. But once the swelling went down and I figured out that my water had to be ice cold (with ice floating in it) I had no trouble drinking as much water as I did before.

    1st day liquid diet

The pre-OP diet isn't about weight loss. Most of the weight lost on the pre-op is water weight. Glycogen needs water. Once you have depleted your glycogen stores, you body will retain less water. Some surgeons use weight loss as an indicator that a patient stuck to the diet, but if you were already doing low carb, you might not lose much at all. If you were doing high carb right up to the start of it, you might lose a lot of water weight. Just depends on how much you were retaining.

It's hard with water and liquids I the beginning due to the internal swelling. Once you are past that, water does't take up any room as long as you aren't eating and drinking at the same time. It will pass right through your sleeve as quickly as you can drink it. So you just have to hang in there and do your best for a little longer.

Can you have G2? Less sugar at least. I was also allowed to do 50/50 apple juice and water in the beginning.

Vets: What Are You Eating Today?

I can eat 1900 calories on days I don't exercise and 2400 on days I do and still maintain. Everyone is different, I guess.

    Is guacamole bad

If you are on the pre-op, liver-shrinking diet, then both are probably bad, but the fritos moreso. Carbs will kick your body out of ketosis and cause your liver to start storing glycogen again. The whole point of the pre-op diet is to deplete your liver of its glycogen stores, causing it to shrink, and making it easier to access your stomach.

    Help need advice

Contrary to popular belief, weight doesn't just automatically fall off of people post-op. For *some* people it seems to, but certainly not for everyone. 5 pounds in 2 weeks is awesome! You are recovering from major surgery, likely have a lot of internal swelling, and your body is adapting and adjusting to all of this craziness. This early out, you shouldn't be worrying about the scale (arguably you shouldn't be worrying about it at ANY point). You should be focusing on four simple things: getting your water in getting your protein in taking your meds and vitamins as directed getting up and moving every hour or two That's it! If you do those things, you will lose weight! Follow your surgeon's/nutritionist's plan. They know what they are talking about!
